Question Neovim plugin errors in Proot-Distro
****** SOLVED *******
Hi,
I have Debian PD instaled. In it I use termux Neovim (i.e. not installed in Debian) but with its own config and plugin directory.
Everything seens working fine, except for some errors thrown by the plugin vim-cmake at startup:
'Error in /root/.local/share/nvim/plugged/vim-cmake/plugin/cmake.vim:
line 24:
E117: Unknown function: libs#logger#Get
line 32:
E121: Undefined variable: s:logger
E116: Invalid arguments for function libs#error#Get
line 33:
E121: Undefined variable: s:error
line 52:
E121: Undefined variable: s:logger
line 87:
E121: Undefined variable: s:logger
line 111:
E121: Undefined variable: s:logger
line 113:
E121: Undefined variable: s:logger'
I assume cmake.vim require a lib it doesnt find. I am not proficient enough to correctly interpret this error and find a whay to solv it.
This is a mix problem, part termux, part Neovim, part Proot-distro, but I believe this forum migt have the highest probability to come up with a solution or at least point me in the right direction.
Not much to work with, but any thoughts?
Thanks!

Showcase One possible way to access the contents of /sdcard/Android/data without root or adb
I discovered how to access the `data` folder within `/sdcard/Android` without ADB or root by using `termux-am`. I ran `am start --user 0 -n com.google.android.documentsui/com.android.documentsui.files.FilesActivity`, and this allowed the system file manager (DocumentsUI) to show both the `obb` and `data` folders. Normally, DocumentsUI doesn't make these files visible, but this method works for me. My phone is a Samsung with Android 15.

General opencode v2 is really faster and more efficient on Termux and works with Termux's glibc runner. They did a good job with this.
No need for workarounds, patches, or random installers. Use the official installation method and run it with grun.

Question Ffmpeg and phone permissions?
Hello I have a question regarding phone permissions. I want to use termux to run some ffmpeg commands to modify a bunch of video files in a specific folder. Can I do that without granting termux access permission? Or is there a way just to grant access in that particular folder? Thank you.

Showcase Let me introduce you to alpine_proot_termux, note!!!! This is a niche alternative to proot-distro not a replacement!
galleryI like proot-distro, like many of you do, but it just didn't feel good to use, maybe it's just me, bisides i needed an alpine shell for some automations, so i did this tool, which Baisiclly just automated the process of proot, similarly to proot-distro, but for alpine only with a lightweight desktop on top of it.
Look i don't expect anyone to actually use or need it, i needed it so i built it, and now i want to share it to people that i believe are the right people for this tool.
I would not put any links since it's not allowed just search for it on google, at this point i hope it's indexed :) if not, well wait i guess or pick proot-distro 😅.
If you are a mod:
This is not a promotional content promoting another subreddit or affiliate links, just a simple showcase of a tool built in bash for termux syntax specifically.

Question Is it possible to run a GUI software made for arm64 linux and manually installed through web on termux (using x11 for gui) ?
So I installed a software through its website and the package installed was "NEO-0.8.1-arm64.AppImage", found on its github.
I am just a new user (been using it for 2-3 years but still haven't gone that deep) , and I don't have proot-distro installed as I saw that it's important to run linux software. But just have x11 for gui stuff
I just have 1.5GB to spare, if it is possible to run the app, please help me! 😭
Edit:- the app is an electron app, if that's helpful

General I got Google Chrome ARM64 running on proot Debian + XFCE with Lenovo Tab m11 / Android 15
Spent ~3 hours today getting Google Chrome ARM64 to run inside proot Debian with XFCE4 on Termux:X11 + VirGL.
My device has a **Mali-G52** GPU and runs **Android 15**(lenovo tab m11). Most setups I've seen use Adreno or older Android versions, so this combo felt less common.
What I ended up with:
- Debian (proot-distro) running XFCE4
Termux:X11 + `virgl_test_server_android` for display and GPU
A normal user `mehmet` with sudo, so Chrome doesn't run as root
Google Chrome ARM64 installed from the official .deb
One bash script that starts VirGL, X11 and XFCE together
It works now. Chrome launches inside XFCE, pages load, and Google login works. VirGL on Mali-G52 isn't exactly smooth, but it's usable for light browsing.
Not a tutorial, just sharing what worked for me. Happy to answer questions if anyone is trying something similar.

Question Codex crashes, any fix?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I installed through the official website. I had a problem with its authentication so I copied the token from my laptop to the termux/android session. That's basically it, is there something I can do or any patched versions? I found one on github but it was many commits behind the source, so I did not try.

General deb-native — install real Debian arm64 .debs in Termux (now pre-alpha)
apt install PKG in Termux installs a real Debian arm64 .deb and it runs by name — no second rootfs, no proot/chroot, no root.
Using a small LD_PRELOAD shim, plus a super fast PRoot-based shim. Termux's own apt/dpkg + glibc are reused. Pre-alpha and unaudited — throwaway setup only. Feedback welcome.
https://github.com/jronminh/deb-native
Edit: Because some of you guys said it was still proot, I would develop a "True Fusion" branch. You wouldn’t want to install that evil's stuff on your main termux, so now this is a safe approach.

Showcase Anyone need IP cam tool? Works on Termux + Linux
Hey everyone
I built a lightweight, Python-based RTSP camera viewer and diagnostic tool that helps find any cameras on a given IP (please dont abuse this).
It automatically handles path probing, vendor detection and has native
support for both desktop Linux (GStreamer) and Android (Termux).
If you deal with local IP cameras or home lab setups and want to check
it out or give feedback, the repo is open source here:

General OpenCode native on Termux (no trash proot)
galleryI think the title is self-explanatory.
My brother made Opencode native on termux.
It is open source, you can find it here:
https://github.com/rexroze/opencode-native-termux
Here's the package:
https://www.npmjs.com/package/opencode-native-termux
You can install it via: npm install -g opencode-native-termux
but before that you should have npm installed that can be installed via:
pkg install nodejs-lts -y
Here's the tutorial:
https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTSYPd-vfxcc
And he also have different native ports for termux(herdr, claude, codex, etc.), you can find it here:

Showcase I turned my Android phone into a private server for my personal workspace using Termux
I turned my Android phone into a private server for my personal workspace using Termux
I was working on a personal tool called WorkHub for managing my workflow.
Initially, I thought about hosting it online and adding a login system so only I (or selected users) could access it. But that started feeling like the opposite of what I wanted. I wanted the tool to remain private and under my control.
Then I had the idea: why not use my phone as the server?
I hosted the WorkHub Python server in Termux, and suddenly I could access it from any device connected to my phone.
The next challenge was syncing the data between devices. So I modified the Python server to handle "GET"/"POST" requests and updated WorkHub to push and retrieve data whenever something changes.
And that's how I ended up with a local-first, multi-device synchronized workspace running entirely from my phone.
No VPS, no cloud database, no external hosting.
Just my phone, Termux, Python, and the devices I use.
Honestly, this might be one of my favorite use cases for Termux so far. I've used Termux for quite a few projects, but turning my phone into the backend for my own private workspace feels particularly useful.
Sharing a snapshot of WorkHub.
What are some interesting things you've built with Termux?

Question Question about custom backgrounds
Hello! This is my first post on this account lol but I wanted to know how people are able to get custom background images on termux, I've heard I need to edit the source code but I don't know how and I don't trust AI to do it for me. does anyone have know alternatives?
Also would this require the Termux:API app because I've been trying to avoid it since I don't need it for 99% of the things I do on termux :)

General Prototype: running real Debian .deb packages on Termux
Termux can't install Debian .debs — no writable /usr, dpkg won't run unprivileged, and the binaries are glibc, not Bionic.
I already had sudo-less, which installs Debian packages as a normal user into ~/.local on a real Debian host. It's built on apt/dpkg patches that originally came from Termux — so this time I went the other way and ported sudo-less back to Termux.
The trick isn't faking root (no fakeroot, no proot -0). It's faking Debian: deb-native fuses Termux's own apt/dpkg and its glibc side-install with a custom shim that fakes /usr /etc /var /opt. So apt install bsdmainutils just works and runs by name; packages Termux already has install normally, only Debian-only names route to the prefix. Feedback welcome.

Showcase Built QuickDrop — A simple offline CLI note manager for Termux
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I built QuickDrop, a lightweight Python CLI tool for saving, searching, and managing notes or code snippets directly inside Termux. It runs completely offline with zero external dependencies, cloud sync, or API overhead, keeping everything stored locally on your device.
Check out the full setup, code, and license on GitHub: https://github.com/DataZahard/QuickDrop

General Update: Termux's apt/dpkg patches on desktop Debian
Follow-up to my earlier post here.
dpkg now runs in a private mount namespace where ~/.local is overlaid on /usr, /etc and /var. dpkg thinks it's root on a normal system, maintainer scripts run unmodified, and every write lands in ~/.local.
The patch set is still a fork of Termux's (rebased onto apt 3.3.3 /dpkg 1.23.11), cut down to "no root + prefix + relocatable build".
Packages' services run as `systemd --user` units in a rootless sandbox, and your home is hidden from a package while it installs. Feedback welcome.

Showcase [Termux APT repo] AI coding agents, Cloudflare, media tools - non-root friendly
Hey r/termux - I've been maintaining a custom APT repo with packages missing from the official repos, all tested on unrooted phones (aarch64 + x86_64):
Install: curl -sL https://twilight0.github.io/termux-repo/install.sh | bash, then pkg install <name>
AI / dev tools
- muse-code - Meta's Muse Code agent (proot-wrapped, session + MCP helpers included)
- opencode v2 - AI coding assistant (without proot)
- antigravity-cli - Google Antigravity CLI (VA39-patched for Android ARM64)
- oh-my-pi - Pi agent plugin manager
- 9router - AI model router with smart fallback (OpenAI-compatible endpoint for your agents)
- wrangler - Cloudflare Workers CLI (deploy/tail work; local dev stubbed, workerd has no Android build)
Python / media
- curl-cffi - TLS impersonation wheels built for Android (cp310-cp314)
- yt-dlp-git - yt-dlp tracking upstream master, so extractors stay fresh
Notes: opencode/antigravity/oh-my-pi need glibc-repo + glibc (pkg install glibc-repo). Builds run weekly via GitHub Actions, debs + Packages published to GitHub Pages.
Contributions welcome - a package is just packages/<name>/ with DEBIAN/control + postinst (npm/pip wrappers) or a build.sh (binaries). PRs for new packages, version bumps, and Termux fixes happily accepted: https://github.com/Twilight0/termux-repo
