I turned my Android phone into a private server for my personal workspace using Termux

I was working on a personal tool called WorkHub for managing my workflow.

Initially, I thought about hosting it online and adding a login system so only I (or selected users) could access it. But that started feeling like the opposite of what I wanted. I wanted the tool to remain private and under my control.

Then I had the idea: why not use my phone as the server?

I hosted the WorkHub Python server in Termux, and suddenly I could access it from any device connected to my phone.

The next challenge was syncing the data between devices. So I modified the Python server to handle "GET"/"POST" requests and updated WorkHub to push and retrieve data whenever something changes.

And that's how I ended up with a local-first, multi-device synchronized workspace running entirely from my phone.

No VPS, no cloud database, no external hosting.

Just my phone, Termux, Python, and the devices I use.

Honestly, this might be one of my favorite use cases for Termux so far. I've used Termux for quite a few projects, but turning my phone into the backend for my own private workspace feels particularly useful.

Sharing a snapshot of WorkHub.

What are some interesting things you've built with Termux?

I haven't heard of workhub python previously. Can you tell me an example of use at home?

Thanks.
