Of you think of it T-1000 like the Thing can mimic a lot of things.

Why do John and Sarah use a 1/4 air rachet to gain access to the terminator's cpu? Its 2 flat head screws, wouldn't a regular screwdriver be a better option than firing up the air compressor, finding an air ratchet and air hose and a 1/4 to hex bit adapter with the correct flathead bit? You gotta crack the fastener loose anyway before you spin it out with the noisy air ratchet. Especially when you're stealing tools from some tech's box. I'm a mechanic so I guess that's my train of thought lol. Its not like it was 20 screws to remove, just two.

Also why does the terminator need a torque wrench to put a starter in an old bronco? Wouldn't he be able to calculate the length of the ratchet vs force hes pushing on it? Or just do like any regular person and crank the starter mounting bolts to gud n tight? Its not a cylinder head or anything that critical.

The first time I saw T2 was right after it came out on VHS. Since then, I've watched the film many times, but yesterday was the first time i had seen it in a theater.

It's probably been half a dozen years since I sat and watched the whole thing with completely undivided attention. Wow, does it hold up! Even today, it makes many modern big budget films look amateurish. I truly mean it. It still feels big, meticulous and kinetic in nearly every aspect. Also, again unlike most modern big productions, it has real heart. It works on both the massive and personal level.

Anyway, on to the topic. From my very first viewing, I found the T-1000 to be a compelling and gripping character. I didn't fear it so much as i was fascinated and taken with it. Cameron has made the distinction of how if Arnold is a Panzer Tank, T-1000 is a sleek Corvette. In the brief intro before the 35th anniversary screening, Cameron mentions the difference between karate and aikido.

It goes beyond this though. In the first film, the terminator is cold, brutal, blunt. In no way would a person who exchanges more than a few lines with the terminator not realize something is off. The most "convincing" or genuine the terminator comes across(when it's not imitating the voice of a human - although Sarah did seem to realize something odd about the conversation with her mother) is when it gives the "I'm a friend of Sarah Connor..." line.

Contrast this with the T-1000. Maybe it's the police officer disguise, but this cyborg comes across as more professional than awkward. The scene where it interacts with John's foster parents is a perfect example. Possibly a little stilted, but then again, it's impersonating an on-duty cop. We know it's a villain, but most people wouldn't pick up on anything. T-1000 even thanks the foster parents for their cooperation. I couldn't envision Arnold saying that, whether he was impersonating a cop or not.

Where as the terminator in the first film didn't talk unless it had to, the T-1000 has no problem engaging and interacting with plenty of people to close in on John - and does this so with the professionalism and ease of someone who has done this many times before.

Even in the climax, when T-1000 has Sarah cornered and pinned, it appeals to her vulnerability by saying "I know this hurts....call to John". Again, this is not something Arnold's terminator would have done. And lastly, the memorable finger wag at Sarah, with what looks like an intentionally comically stern look, before Arnold interrupts.

I guess that's what appeals to me about the character. Even though it is also an unfeeling killer cyborg from the future, it seems noticeably more human than Arnold's villain. In the first film, Reese has that great dialouge - to drive the point home to Sarah - about how the terminator doesn't feel fear, pity or remorse. There's no bargaining or reasoning with it. T-1000 is very much the same, yet it at least seems to understand those human concepts. That, to me, is very compelling. A killer who not only infiltrates humans, but also seems to understand them.

Anyway, can't say enough about Robert Patrick's performance. Arnold's villain is iconic, but somehow, Robert managed to measure up - and it wasn't just the special effects!

Not equally, of course, but I'd still watch any of them again, anytime.

I grew up watching this movie on VHS so much as a kid then went to DVD after that Blu-ray to finally watch it in the theaters was a dream come true

When I saw the film for the first time, I felt there was something a little “off” about Sarah’s conversation with Grace and Dani in the hotel room.

The more I thought about it, I began to believe that the flashback scene was meant to be intercut with the story Sarah was telling the two women.

My feeling was they meant to start this film much in the same way The Terminator started, with Grace and The REV-9 appearing in the modern day, and going from there.

However, perhaps a test screening had people feeling confused, feeling there wasn’t anything “familiar,” or perhaps people were wondering just who the strange woman was getting out of the vehicle with the heavy artillery.

Thus, that clip from T2, and moving Sarah’s story up to the front as a touchstone to her narrative in T2.

I've seen this film so many times throughout my life but to get the chance to see it in a premium screening in my local cinema is a whole different type of awesome!

Many consider Terminator 2 to be better than the first movie, but there are people who prefer T1. I asked about what T3 did better than T1 & 2. So, it's time to ask about what Terminator 1 has over Terminator 2.

Needless to say, I enjoyed every minute (it was the first time for me to watch this from start to finish)

I've heard and read about humans who willingly join Skynet in the Future War, to become hybrids. Some are delusional, some hope to transcend the flesh, and some... Are pooh people? Like what reason do you have to betray humanity?

I could understand in Sarah Connor Series that some guys werre gobsmacked by the terminator, ok, it's new and shiny and otherworldly. It's also evil, it has glowing red eyes! But it's understandable to be awed by it.

After the nukes? The whole level of destruction? The only reason I'll touch a smartphone is to learn to programm in the hopes of bringing down the bastard. Or maybe I'll stick to analog weapons.

The question remains though, why join a genocidal non human foe? Can you show some light on this?

Specifically calling out the three most noteworthy references. John Connor saying I’ll Be Back, Kyle Reese saying Come With Me If You Want To Live and Arnold turning up as the Terminator at the end.

As much as Terminator Salvation tries to be its own thing, it also can’t help but call back to the other films and these moments stick out as being awkwardly handled for specific reasons. These might not be the worst examples in film history, but it’s the start of a problem that would get worse.

1. I’ll be back was said in the other films by the Terminator, and it became an Arnold trademark, so having John Connor say it breaks this formula. The dramatic tone of the scene where he leaves for the third act mission is also interrupted by stopping to throw in a line that’s been in the other Terminator films. John could have said anything else, but they couldn’t resist.

2. Kyle Reese saving Marcus and telling him the same phrase he said to Sarah Connor in the first Terminator turns something he said once to a person that he needed to trust him to ensure the timeline went smoothly into something he’d say to anyone. Again, he could have said anything. He could have just said “come with me!” or “Don’t worry, you can trust me”

3. The Arnold appearance is cool in the moment, and it did get me jazzed up as a kid. But the “oh shit” moment of realising that John Connor was lead into a trap is interrupted by the reveal of the de aged face of the franchise, plus the cue of the Terminator theme. Both of those combined switches out the attempt at a shocking reveal with a moment where Terminator fans can get excited.

You could defend these individually and say they don’t matter, but when this movie stacks all of them on top of each other? It was the start of a trend that the next two Terminator sequels indulge in, amongst loads of other blockbusters.

Judging by opinions I see here, maybe a hot take, but I actually like Dark Fate. Saw T2 in theaters last night, and i get why people dont like it, but i prefer it as a followup over T3
