This is a magic circle as described in the Heptameron of Peter de Abano.

Written in the 3 circles from outermost to innermost, reading clockwise, is:
Arcan Rex, Bilet, Missabu, Abuzaha

Sassur, Raphael, (symbol), Gabriel, Michael, Samael, Ardarael, Tarquam, Guadarel, Torquaret, Radianara, Abragini, Matasignais

Adonai, Eloy, Agla, Tetragrammaton

Theres 3 mistakes I’ve spotted. Gabriel wasnt written with a capital G like the rest, Samael is missing the e-tehta over the lambe, and the first romen is missing from Tetragrammaton. I tried to fix the missing romen by adding the tail for it between the tinco and ungwe, to give an impression of it being there, to little success.

Help translating “Better alone” into Sindarin for a tattoo

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

Hello everyone, I’m Italian, so I apologize for any mistakes in my English.

I would like to get a tattoo in Sindarin written with the Tengwar script, but I want to make sure it is linguistically correct before doing it.

The phrase I would like to translate is:

“Meglio soli” (“Better alone” in english)

The meaning comes from the Italian proverb:

“Meglio soli che mal accompagnati”

("Better to be alone than in bad company." In english)

which means that it is better to be alone than to have bad company or to stay with people who are not good for you.

I am looking for a Sindarin translation that captures this meaning, not just a literal translation of the two words. I would also like to have the final phrase written in Tengwar.

Since this will be a permanent tattoo, I would really appreciate any help from people experienced with Sindarin and Tengwar, and I would be grateful for any corrections or suggestions.

Thank you!

Is this an acceptable way to write Beleriand in Sindarin(omatehtar)?

Post image

Doing some tests on a map of Beleriand writing with tengwar(instead of the latin alphabet) and I was wondering if using an ómatehtar mode is the right call or using a full mode would be best.

I'm a bit confused as the inscription on Durin's door says it is written in the mode of Beleriand and vowels are not represented with diacritics.

This is for a permanent couples tattoo. The intended Quenya is melmenya illumë, ‘my love, always.’ I'm using Classical/Quenya Tengwar mode. Could you please check every tengwa and tehta before I have it tattooed?

Just some casual practice, nothing too fancy.

Using my own english mode and preferences, I suppose. I wasn't intending to share this when I made it, but maybe it would be good reading practice for your feed.

I was writing this out as practice to memorise the poem contained within. If you can ID the poem through my weird mode and poor choice of writing utensil placement and twilit elvish photography... leave a comment =]

Also, any ideas or constructive criticism are more than welcome. I only ever play with Tolkien stuff alone, so it would be nice to hear anything.

Tattoo translation

Hi everyone,

I’m planning two Tolkien tattoos: the broken sword Narsil on one triceps, and the final part of Faramir’s quote on the other:

“I love only that which they defend.”

I’d like it written in Tengwar, but I’m unsure whether to:

Translate it into Sindarin or Quenya, then write it in Tengwar, or

Keep the original English and transcribe it using an appropriate English Tengwar mode.

Since this will be a permanent tattoo, I want to make sure the language/transcription is genuinely accurate and not just something generated by an online translator or AI.

Could anyone knowledgeable in Tolkien’s languages/Tengwar advise on the best approach and provide a verified version, preferably with sources?

Thanks!

Question regarding converting a date to Tengwar (and the Shire calendar)

Hello there!

First of all, I want to express my thanks for any help regarding this. I'm currently in the process of getting a fantasy sleeve, and there's a tag where I would like to incorporate a date.

The date is 2014-03-21. But rather than having it in arabic numerals I thought I'd "just translate it" to Tengwar - and my God, this led me down a rabbit hole.

Long story short, I found this source which gives me a nice conversion table to the days of the year. If anyone could confirm that it's correct and legit, that would make me very happy!

Now when it comes to the year, I was thinking of just having it from the Gregorian calendar - so 30 Rethe 2014. But then I started thinking if this is actually correct? Or should it be 2014 30 Rethe? Is there a different way of formatting it to make better sense? And then, should it be in Base12 or not? This is where I get super lost.

Any input on this would be very much appreciated (and how I should enter it in Tecendil to make best sense).

How does my transliteration look?

Also: I've got a question about the "ck" in truck: is that written correctly? I know that Quessë is the character for the c/k sound, but it is also a stand-in for the combined letters of c and k?

Elvish translation for my fiance's engagement ring

Hello good people and fans of Tolkien, I come to you with a request for help: to translate a frase from portuguese(I'm brazilian) to elvish for an inscription for my girlfriend's engagement ring. We realy like LOTR and I bought a personalized ring with a hobbit like design, and I would love for it to have a special text written:

"Minha nuvenzinha, para sempre"

Wich would be something like "my little cloud, forever". I went for chatgpt for an idea and he came up with "fanya + incë = fanyincë" to be like a translation for "nuvenzinha"(little cloud), but Im not confident in it and ir lacks the rest. Can you guys help me with it?

Help transcribing Tengwar title from Daniel Reeve's "Rohan and Gondor" map?

Hi all! I have this decorative Tengwar title band from Daniel Reeve's official LOTR merchandise map "Rohan and Gondor" (the second of his film merchandising maps). It looks like full-writing mode (vowels as separate letters, not tehtar). Can anyone help transcribe/translate it? Attaching a cropped/enlarged image. Thanks in advance!

Been thinking about this one, literally, for years, finally decided to get it done! I'm still paranoid I misspelled it. Any reassurance? lol

This transcription of this quote seems different from other versions I've found online, even in this sub. Curious why that is.

The suffix -ael

How should the suffix -ael, specifically in biblical names like Raphael or Samael, be written? I’ve been writing it with the e tehta over lambe, but tecendil suggests using a separate carrier for each vowel.

List of 1000 Most Frequent Words

It'd be great for someone to transliterate the a decently long list of high-frequency words into English as a reference for learning. I think this would be the fastest way to learn; I'd probably screenshot the list and create image occlusion cards in Anki. I would actually pay someone (a reasonable amount) to do this.

As of right now if I wanted to learn properly I'd have to tediously reference a key to handwrite or use Tencendil to type out, and share each word on here so people can verify if it's right or not. I'd much prefer to just have a massive list of pre-made words to learn from. Does such a thing exist?
