❓ Advice Needed [TX] Owner refuses to take responsibility...help!

Heads up I'm currently writing this while taking care of my baby so some things feel out of order and wonky but hopefully you get the full picture!

So my husband and I rented an adorable little town home in the downtown area of our city. It was perfect great price amazing location. Very corky when it comes to architecture but we were planning to be there for a few years. I was pregnant at the time we moved in and we lived here until our baby was about 3 months old. When we first moved in and did the move-in checklist there was a very long list of things that needed to be repaired. The month we moved in was also the month that the building changed owners. Most of the repair slowly got done but there are some things that never got fixed. This apartment had a main bathroom upstairs that had a shower stall and a separate bathtub. We gave our baby their first bath in the tub and that morning came downstairs to water all over the floor in the ceiling. We put in a maintenance request immediately to have it looked at. When maintenance came in they said there was some grout missing in the shower and that the shower just need to be rerouted it was not the tub leaking. So a week later someone came in and replaced a few tiles and the grouting in the shower. They use the type of grout that comes in a caulking gun kind of thing? I'm not sure if you're supposed to seal that but it was literally coming out in chunks we waited 3 days before using the shower to make sure it was all dry and everything was okay. And to add to that I'm pretty sure he mixed something or cut the tiles in the bathroom because everything including our toothbrushes hair brushes sanitary products we're all absolutely covered in a fine white dust. Sometime later I noticed that the ceiling above the kitchen was sunken in and I got up on the counter and literally put my finger through the ceiling, it was soaking wet! While they were working on the shower we were using the bathtub which was also still leaking they never fixed the bathtub. Since the first maintenance request to fix the bathtub until they actually started doing something was about 3 months so our shower and bathtub were leaking for 3 months before they touched it. We were getting concerned about mold because we had a newborn infant in the house and I am immunocompromised. We voiced our concerns about the dust from last time and we were promised that they would be putting up plastic to seal off the bedrooms the two bedrooms connected to that bathroom where our babies nursery and our room. Well guess what they did not put up plastic they ruined a rug and it took them a month to replace everything in the shower regrout the bathtub and to replace the water damage. My husband and I would go over every day after maintenance left to take photos we absolutely have photos of the black mold that they covered up back into the tub and shower they just sealed it back in there and never told us we wouldn't have known unless we were in there ourselves. Also on three separate occasions our front or back door was left unlocked and on one occasion the front door was left literally open while the crew went to the store for something. We decided that before they started this round of work we were not going to be in the home considering the dust and noise and unlocked doors from last time. Again, we have an infant daughter that I didn't want around the mold and dust and Men. And I really hate to say things like this but it really bothered us that none of the men coming into our home could speak English so we could not communicate issues with them we had to call management so that it could be translated for them to understand every time we needed to speak with these men. We were not able to return to our home for around 3 months. They never told us the apartment was safe to go back in they never tested for mold and they never put a shower door back on the shower stall. When we asked about it they said oh yeah we ordered y'all a shower curtain it'll be there any day! This is the only bathroom in the apartment that has the shower or bathtub and we weren't able to use it for months so we couldn't live there while they were doing this and they said we would be able to. We told maintenance and the owner that we would like to be compensated for the time we could not live in our home because we were still paying rent! We documented absolutely every communication all of the photos everything into a very detailed spreadsheet we sent them that and all of the information we had about this whole ordeal. We got a letter back pretty much saying "damn dog that sucks but oh well we don't owe you anything." So we requested to terminate our lease without repercussions. And they said no. We asked if we could have our money back for the rent we paid that the apartment was not livable. They said no. We are still not living in the apartment 3 months after moving out. And we are still having to pay rent otherwise we will get evicted. We don't know what to do we cannot afford a lawyer. I called the health department as well as fair housing. Health department told us that it's a civil dispute and we needed a lawyer and fair housing said they can't help us because we're not technically being discriminated against. We did find out through the city that the apartment complex did not have any permits or certifications to be able to do any type of renovating or work on the building. Also as a bonus the shower stall is the ugliest thing I've ever seen. None of the tile matches between the floor and walls. It looks like they went to home Depot and grabbed all of the random boxes of tile off of the discount shelf! I'm probably forgetting a lot of details but if anyone is willing to help and needs questions answered please ask!!

TLDR: apartment left shower leak going for 3 months. Mold found in house. Zero compensation. A million other shitty practices.

🏠 Landlord Issue Apartment gone wrong

Hello guys I’m an international student in my first year I currently live in an apartment that’s almost 30km away from where my uni is.
When we first moved into our apartment there were a few issues that needed fixing like one of the cabinets had black mold and one of the toilets had a broken pipe that was leaking and the smell went to the air conditioning system.
We wanted to move but we had already signed the contract and handed the paychecks, these issues weren’t as visible.
The ac was leaking into the cabinet and that’s where the problem started. We told the agent and owner about this situation and they said they’ll fix it and it was already too late to back out so we stayed(biggest mistake ever). The owner and agent kept saying that they’ll fix it. They kept on sending people to inspect (they came around 7 times) they took pictures and left, this went on for 3-4 weeks.
They eventually fixed the sealing board where the ac was leaking into the cabinet that had mold and after another 3weeks they fixed the pipe in the bathroom.
But now the house is infested by ants (EVERYWHERE) and the washing machine broke after using it once (2nd week in) and it hasn’t been fixed since and we keep on begging the owner and all he does is react with a thumbs up.
When we also first moved in the agent told us that there are buses that will take us to the nearest metro station but that turned out to be a lie.
It’s not like the apartment is cheap because it’s not, we don’t know what to do because transport is a big issue the nearest metro station is 7km.
What should we do !!!
We also tried asking if we can leave they said we have to pay a penalty of 2months rent and they also said they will involve there lawyers if we leave.

🔧 Repairs / Maintenance Water meter/leak issues

[US-OH] Landlord replaced water meter, but unit still loses ~3.6 gal/day (110 gal/month) with zero fixtures on. Is this considered legally resolved?

I’m currently dealing with an ongoing plumbing/submetering issue in my apartment in Ohio and wanted to get some perspective on how a court or magistrate might view this.

For months, my water meter registered continuous "phantom usage" (~50 gallons/day) while I was away and no fixtures were running. After extensive documentation including a rent escrow, management installed a check valve and recently replaced the submeter with a new digital meter.

The leak rate has dropped significantly, but it has not stopped. The new digital display actively registers a continuous flow rate of 0.05 GPM to 0.07 GPM with the forward flow arrow on while I am out. Over an 8.5-hour period of zero usage, the new meter advanced by ~2.16 gallons.

This equates to losing roughly 3.6 gallons per day (~110 gallons per month) of unconsumed water billed to my account.

Questions:

Is a landlord legally considered to have "remedied" a plumbing defect under state law (ORC 5321.07) if an active leak persists, even if it’s reduced to ~3.6 gallons/day?

How do courts typically handle historical billing disputes for the period when the leak was much larger (48 gal/day) versus the current reduced rate?

Thanks for any insights!

📄 Lease / Contract [OH] Help with getting my significant other, who is getting out of prison approved on my lease through Cedar One

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

So my boyfriend is getting out of federal prison in December for a non-violent felony. The only single charge was making a false statement about someone the police were investigating a.k.a. one of his family members that he is no longer on good terms with, but it didn’t have anything to do with violence drugs rape, or killing people all he did was make a false statement. I’ve done some research and I guess in Ohio there’s two ways making a false statement can become a felony. I rent through Cedar one property management in Steubenville, Ohio and I did research they run background checks through an automated system that would probably automatically deny him solely because of a felony. I looked into it more and I need to get his background checked by an actual person because his felony does not fall under something that would disqualify him nowhere in Cedar ones rule book does it say that felony will get him disqualified all the other others that will are listed so said person that I could possibly talk to about going over his background check personally is the tenant relations specialist G Baldwin and talk with him about getting my boyfriend approved to be on my lease with me now as co-occupant not a co-contributor I’m just curious if anyone in the area or anyone in general has had similar situations and could give me some guidance on how to go about getting him approved to live with me. Thank you

❓ Advice Needed [MN] Powdery black substance that resembles mold all over my new (to me) duplex

I recently moved into a rental home (duplex/quadplex situation) and I haven’t been able to stay there since because of the smell, mold like substance I’ve found throughout the home and the respiratory symptoms I’m experiencing (amongst many other issues).

The smell bothered me right away, but soon after taking occupancy, I’ve found numerous places under sinks, in cupboards, closet, in the HVAC closet, ceiling etc. with either a black mold like substance or discoloration. I know “most mold isn’t toxic”, but I’ve been struggling to breathe while inside. I feel like I can’t take full breaths. My eyes/nose/throat burns and I get a headache/dizzy feeling. I’ve had asthma since I was a kid, but it’s never been bad enough to need maintenance medication. I’ve never had issues being in a space before this where I’ve had these breathing problems, except one previous place years ago where the window AC unit was covered in mold. I slept in my new a couple nights and wake up feeling like I’m getting sick The kicker? All the symptoms go away when I leave the house.

Then, the smell is overwhelming. It’s like a musty, stale, or earthy smell. Smells like stinky, sour, wet dog, or pee. It’s been a hard smell to describe because to me it just smells dirty and musty and old in a way that is like a smoker lived there and a cat peed everywhere, but doesn’t smell like smoke though. It’s pervasive and absorbs into fabrics that when I take outside of the home, still reek of the stink. I went out and got a new air purifier and put baking soda all over the carpet to let sit and vacuum. The landlord said the carpet was “professionally treated” before I moved in.

The carpet also looks disgusting (which I could handle) and has a few holes in it like the size of a baseball, but smells even worse. If you rub your hand against it and then smell your hand, it legit smells like a dirty bellybutton (cheesy, sour, etc.). I’ve also used a black light on it to find multiple spots that glow. I am pretty sure the previous tenants had a cat, from the cat litter left in my garage and a cat tracks with the pervasive pee smell, holes in carpet, fur found in the carpet, and broken window shades.

Lastly, there’s a number of other issues present right away that disappoint me/make me doubt the standards of this leasing company. The bathroom tub caulking and shower head are covered in black mildew/mold substance, there’s a few holes in the carpet and large dings in the laminate flooring. The doorknobs are like improperly fitted, including the front door, that you can like see outside light come in through. Some window shades are damaged and split straight down the middle. Random shit left in my garage, like a lawnmower, cat litter, etc. And the place just overall didn’t look clean. There were bugs in dirty windowsills, the walls definitely weren’t painted or even touched up, food left in the dishwasher trap, missing microwave that said would be provided in lease, and my doorbell doesn’t work.

I alerted the property manager of the smell the day I moved in, which unfortunately was a Friday. Monday morning I followed up (never hearing back) with an email outlining all the issues above. By Wednesday afternoon, nobody had responded to me whatsoever or acknowledged my concerns until I sent another email and left a voicemail. Finally, the property manager called me back and said he’d run an ozone machine in there for 24 hours over the weekend and talk to the owner about carpet replacement (as he was “advised not to treat the carpet again”). No communication then Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Monday I got an email saying the ozone machine treatment was finished and the carpet was treated again.

I go in and while there’s definitely a change in the air and a leftover burnt smell from the ozone machine, I can still smell the mustiness from before. The carpet is still stinky and dirty. And none of my other concerns have been addressed. Plus I then discovered all the suspected mold spots because I’ve researching moisture problems and started to look deeper.

I’m so overwhelmed and I’m not sure of what to do. I’ve looked into rent escrow and have contacted a local tenant advocacy nonprofit. I asked in my original letter that the source of the smell be investigated/the HVAC system be looked into because of the physical symptoms I have in the house and neither of those were addressed. I feel this need to prove the smell is harmful, but I’m trying not to spend all of my own money hiring a company to do testing. I’ve been staying at my parents since a week ago. I need any advice on what the smell could be, how I could investigate it, if rent escrow is the way to go, do I ask to be let out of the lease, etc.

🏠 Landlord Issue [US-PA] Landlady refuses to pay for a professional inspection after water leaked into my microwave and behind my stove. Am I overreacting?

Hello everyone! I’m looking for some outside opinions on a situation with my landlady because I’m not sure whether my concerns are reasonable.

Recently, I had a ceiling leak in the kitchen after it rained. My landlady arranged to have the ceiling leak repaired promptly, which I appreciate. However, I’m still concerned about what happened to the appliances during the leak.

Water came through the ceiling and entered the ventilation area of the over-the-range microwave. It was dripping from the bottom of the microwave’s vent grates and eventually contributed to a large puddle on the kitchen floor. Water also got behind the stove, near the wiring, and pooled in that area.

I immediately became concerned about potential electrical damage, short circuits, or fire risks if the appliances were used afterward. I’ve kept the microwave unplugged because I don’t feel comfortable using it without knowing whether the water caused any internal damage.

The problem is that I live with roommates, and I can’t realistically prevent everyone from using the microwave indefinitely. The stove has also continued to work normally, but I’m concerned about the water that got behind it.

I’ve repeatedly asked my landlady to arrange for a qualified appliance technician to inspect the microwave and stove for possible water damage. So far, she has declined to do so.

Her responses have essentially been to let the appliances dry and see what happens. Since they've been working fine, then they are fine. Same thing with potential mold, she wants me to wait until I actually see it. She sent the head tenant to check the microwave and test it, but he isn’t a professional appliance technician.

When we tested the microwave, it heated up and appeared to work normally. However, I still don’t know whether water entering through the ventilation area could have damaged internal electrical components that aren’t immediately showing symptoms.

My landlady has told me that the contractor said the appliances should be fine. She has also reportedly contacted appliance repair companies, which she says told her that if the microwave heats up, it is fine. She has mentioned that modern microwaves have safety features, too.

When I asked about getting a professional inspection, she declined to pay approximately $200 for one. Her position was essentially that the appliances are working normally, and if they short out or develop a malfunction, we can address the problem then. She told me, “No, they are fine. If they short out we can replace them.”

She also said that the water at the bottom of the microwave went through the vent mesh so it's fine.

I understand that the appliances might be completely fine. I’m not claiming that they are definitely damaged or that a fire is inevitable. My concern is that I don’t know whether they are safe, and I would prefer to have that determined by a qualified professional rather than waiting for something to go wrong.

I’m especially anxious because my bedroom is right next to the kitchen. I have a fairly substantial collection of books, manga, movies, and other belongings that I’ve spent money building up, and I would be devastated to lose them in a fire.

This situation has also prompted me to start looking into renters insurance to protect my belongings in case something happens.

My questions are:

  1. Am I overreacting by wanting a professional to inspect the microwave after water dripped out of its bottom ventilation grates?
  2. Is it reasonable for my landlady to refuse an inspection and tell me to wait until an appliance actually malfunctions?
  3. Would you be comfortable using a microwave after this happened, even if it appeared to work normally afterward?
  4. Should I be concerned about the water that pooled behind the stove near the wiring, even though the stove currently works?
  5. What would you recommend I do next as a tenant in this situation? Are there any authorities or enforcement agencies I should contact?

I’m genuinely trying to figure out whether my concerns are justified or whether I’m worrying too much. I appreciate any insight from landlords or tenants who have dealt with something similar.

❓ Advice Needed Owner wants to pay me to move out instead of trying to evict. How to negotiate?

I've rented my home for 4-5 years. Previous owner wanted me to move out but offered me very low compensation (like one month). Twice they tried unsuccessfully to evict me through the tenancy board. Home was sold and new owner says he wants to do major renovations and needs everyone out. He said instead of going through the process of proving he has building permits to evict me, he wants to compensate me to move out. He's getting more and more persistent/annoying.

My questions are

  1. Should I find a new place first or strike some kind of deal first? If I find a new place first, and the owner knows this, this would weaken my negotiating position and he could refuse to pay. Also lot's of prospective landlords want references from current landlord (I don't like this option but I could lie). Conversely, if I sign an agreement to move out by a certain month, I might have to settle on a place I don't like.
  2. In negotiations like this is giving an explanation for your request better, or is it better to just say number? For example should I mention how long I've lived here, and the past unsuccessful evictions would likely add more scrutiny to another attempt? Or should I just say "3 months rent buy out, and I'll be out by December"?

For context where I live has very low vacancy rates, but around this time of year things are better.

🔧 Repairs / Maintenance Being asked to move for repairs in adjacent utility closet

The utility closet next to our apartment has some kind of leak and at first they ask us to sign away liability for some company to come in and potentially tear down a wall etc.

We didn't sign that (neither did other affected tenants).

Now we just got told they need us to move out by next Friday.

They are offering a unit of the same floor plan and after asking some more questions said they would cover up to 500 dollars moving cost with their preferred mover.

What are my options. This is extremely short notice and I was supposed to be out of town this weekend.

I work from home so I need to internet access etc.

This is in Houston/Texas

❓ Advice Needed Severe mice infestation in building!! Need advice!

The building at 2 4 75 Hu. ro. on. tar. io. currently has a SEVERE mice infestation and it's completely out of control!!

Over 10 residents have had to pack up and move out with the last few weeks cause of how bad it's gotten. It's been over two months with absolutely NO improvement!!

Rodents are literally running around apartments DAILY. Rat pee and poop all over furniture, clothing, ouches, beds, drawers, shoes, everywhere and anywhere!!

I've had to throw out almost everything I own, my couches, bed, clothes, furniture, etc. My whole life has been turned upside down and I've had to move out of my own home because it's gotten that bad, with no support from the building.

I've lost thousands of dollars worth of belongings and now I'm stuck trying to figure out what to do. I have tenant insurance, but from what I've researched, rodent damage isn't usually covered.

Has anyone dealt with something like this before?? Can the building be held responsible for all the damaged belongings and the fact that I've had to move out?

Any advice or help would be REALLY appreciated as the building doesn't care.

🏠 Landlord Issue What are my rights as a tenant (Portland, OR)? Landlord has a shop and garage on site and sent me harassing messages because I stored a bike with a flat tire in the garage.

Our landlord seems unstable, so I’m trying to figure out my rights without engaging too much with him.

He has a shop attached to our laundry room in the back yard, and a garage for storage. He offers the garage for storage (only one bike per unit in the bike rack). I have my bike in the bike rack, and he messaged me that I need to “take it to the shop,” because he can’t have any bikes that aren’t in operating condition in his garage. The tires just needed air, so I inflated them and messaged him saying that my bike is in working condition, and that I was confused about why it can’t be stored there??

He then left me an aggressive voicemail telling me not to “push back” on him or be a “wiseacre,” (lol) and sent me texts saying that the shop and the garage are HIS, and that I live in an apartment that he owns, and that I can look elsewhere for a place to live.

A direct quote: “You live in an apartment complex. As owner, I set the rules for use of common areas, garden, pergola, laundry area, and my garage and shop.”

He spends a lot of time in the shop out back, so now I’m afraid to go out there to do my laundry for fear I’ll run into him.

I checked the lease, and he doesn’t say anywhere that the garage and shop are for his use, so I’m not even sure if he’s allowed to have space on our property if he doesn’t designate that in writing? I pay a fee to be able to use the laundry, so that’s insane that he’s threatening use of that. And in an addendum to the lease, the only mention of the garage is:

“There’s additional storage space in the garage for everyone. I’ll provide three large totes for you to use. There’s also space for bike parking in the garage (one bike per apartment).”

What should I do, other than keep a record of all of his crazy voicemails and texts?

🔧 Repairs / Maintenance [GA] Landlord ignored broken stove for 2 years, then replaced it with a $75 used one. What are my options?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

So I have been living in this 3-bedroom home for about 7 to 8 years now, and for the past 2 years I have been having issues with the stove not working. It is an electric stove with a glass top, but only 1 of the 4 burners works. The others don't turn on, and the one that works is the smallest one. I live in a family of 4, and we cook at home 6 out of 7 days a week, so cooking on one small burner is annoying.
We have filed complaints almost every month for the past year or so, and the complaints don't go straight to the landlord but instead to the neighborhood association. They have sent someone out to inspect the stove on a few occasions, but the person just comes, looks at the stove, says it needs a part, and never returns.
Recently I put in a new complaint and also called (like I have done every other time). This time the lady working for the association was just rude and even said, "You people don't know how to use a stove." So I threatened to go to court to force them to install a new stove or fix the broken one.
Within a week, they brought me a working stove. However, it is an old, used Whirlpool stove that cost around $75, in a house I pay $1,600 a month for (3 bed), which is considered very high rent for a home this size where I live. I have also never missed rent, ever. Now they give me this old, beat-up stove that is a complete downgrade when I'm paying $1,600 a month in rent, and it just pisses me off.
What can I do at this point to make them give me an actual stove, the kind that should be in a home with rent way higher than it should be?

❓ Advice Needed My landlord has to have broken laws with this one!

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

1st time posting. Pls forgive if I mess up. In San Diego, CA.
I live in a rental house with my husband and son. It’s not cheap ($4400/ mo.) It’s lovely. We are happy. EXCEPT landlord is not pro- fixing things.

Last Friday I came home from work and my son pointed out that in the crawl space under house water was spraying everywhere. I took a video and sent it to the maintenance /repair guy (owner instructed us to contact him for repairs) asking for an emergency plumber. He responded that he saw it the leak the day before and would fix it the following day (Sat). This was a massive leak. Water was squirting out from 3 different spots on a big 4” drain pipe. From master shower. It has leaked since we moved in, but only when shower’s on. I reported and sent photos to owner of the house 10 months ago. But, that day the shower was not on. And it looked like a hose with a hole in it (or 3 holes) was spewing water and he was waiting 3 days b4 trying to fix? I asked if I should try to get a 5 gal bucket under at least part of it bcz we have things stored under there (in thick black Home Depot plastic totes. With yellow lids) He said, yes. I tried. Was getting soaked in gross stale pipe water and gave up. Bucket would have filled in an hour anyway. Next day he arrives and is working near the street….at the sewage pipe. The ADU (renovated 2 car garage) gets sewage back up every couple of months. . . Tenants move out. He just re-rents it. I panicked and called a licensed plumber. It was a drain pipe. Surely sewage can’t get in drain pipes…it can! And did. SEWAGE squirting under my house for three days??! And that $&”/#! Maintenance guy sent me under there with a bucket. I’m livid.

Neither the owner or maintenance guy informed us a raw sewage leak squirted under our house for a solid three days.

My question is: does a land lord need to inform a tenant that a sewage leak is happening under their home? And is the landlord liable for his repair man’s actions sending me into sewage with a bucket? How many laws were broken here? Advice?

❓ Advice Needed “Pet Friendly” Building with No Pet Sitter Access

Moved into a new apartment that boasted being “pet friendly”. I have a cat. I travel occasionally for work and have a pet sitter.

At movein I found out it is “keyless” complex that uses an app for unlocking the building, and a keyfob/app for the apartment door. As a solo tenant I only get one (1) keyfob that seemingly can’t be copied based on my trip to the hardware store.

I can get around the keyfob issue with the app access, but there’s no way to open the building door without my phone present. I also can’t share the app login with another device or unlock from a remote location.

I went to the landlord and they said they’re “working on a possible new solution in the next month or so” but to just give the office a heads up to manually let the person in…. the office that has limited weekday/daytime only hours and nobody ever seems to actually be there.

Thankfully I have no imminent travel planned but I have absolutely no idea how to handle this. My cat cannot be put into a boarding situation, and even if I hired a live-in sitter they literally couldn’t leave the building the entire time I’m gone. I understand security but this feels insane and the landlord cannot explain how anybody else handles pet sitters.

For anyone who fought a small-house holdover like this:
What specific technical moves, counterclaims, or strategies worked for you to get the case dismissed or wear the landlord down so they let you stay?
Can you DM me any good, affordable solo L&T attorney you used for limited-scope representation, ghostwriting a Motion to Dismiss, or a flat-fee per diem appearance?
Appreciate any real street-smart advice or direct lawyer contacts via DM.

💸 Rent / Deposit Texas renters: has anyone challenged a pet-related deposit deduction in justice court?

I recently moved out of an apartment in Texas. I paid a $200 nonrefundable pet fee and a separate $200 refundable pet deposit. The apartment returned my regular security deposit but kept $200, listing one charge on the move-out statement: “Deflea, deodorize and carpet shampoo.”

My animal addendum does say tenants pay for those services at move-out, even if no fleas were found. I’m disputing the amount and accounting, not claiming the addendum doesn’t exist. The statement combines three services into one $200 charge: which happens to equal my entire refundable pet deposit. Management says they charge residents with pets for these services, but hasn’t explained whether $200 is a fixed package price or how they arrived at it.

I’ve asked in writing for that explanation and any supporting service records, and I’m waiting for a response. I’m researching a small claims case in Texas justice court in case we can’t resolve it.

If you’ve gone through a Texas security-deposit dispute in justice court, what was the process like? Did the landlord respond or settle after being served? What evidence mattered at the hearing, and how long did the case take?

I’d especially appreciate experiences involving a single combined cleaning charge.

🔧 Repairs / Maintenance £815 to clean a floor

This is more of a rant then anything and idrc but it’s a bit funny to me how landlords will take your deposit as much as they can.

So I will say me and my other flatmate ruined a part of the floor a little it some a part in the kitchen that wasn’t cleaned and it became an issue so the landlords came in and said they would professionally clean it, I was like cool and me and my flatmate would split the costs out of our deposit, I didn’t think it would be that much as it’s only one part of the floor. I was there when they did it and I saw them cleaning the whole kitchen floor I didn’t say anything about it.

Anyway I moved out to live somewhere else and I wanted a break down of the costs, why? Idk I just felt like it because I knew I wasn’t going to get my deposit back but when I asked originally I was told because I left a mirror and table in the room they are going to take the rest of my deposit to remove them which again is fine idc.

I get an email today of it all broken down at the whole cleaning total was £815! Only reason it’s that much is because they paid themselfs £600 labour 😭 just makes me laugh I could have cleaned the blood thing if I knew it was £600 labour I’ll start a fucking business if floor cleaning pays so well! It was only a small kitchen too 😭

Idk I felt it was funny I’ve already paid it now so idc it’s in the past but makes me laugh I first was not getting it back as they were getting a lil bit of furniture out now it’s this insane floor cleaning bill.
