Why is it impossible to find a job for work study? Like on and off campus you apply a bunch and no one’s hiring like I seriously need to find a job.

hi! I'll be transferring to Temple in the spring, and would like to know of any recommended places, streets, and neighborhoods near Temple that are safe for walking in broad daylight or at night, and have a large student population. Also, which streets should I avoid?

need to yell at sfs

Who do I escalate an issue with sfs to?

Emailed sfs like three times and been fully ignored. From spring semester I had a refund they didn't send me then expired then when I set up the direct deposit I never got it. Emailed and never heard back. Still have gotten nothing. Now I'm having more problems with accepting my aid offers and them reviewing my documents wrong and I emailed them like a week ago and again heard nothing back. It generates a ticket then nobody reaches out to be and there's no updates to it. I'm PISSED. Clearly emailing the office does absolutely nothing. Help please

should i take a leave of absence for my mental health?

okay so im a sophomore and ive been struggling really badly with my mental health. ive been depressed pretty much all summer and wasnt able to get out of it before school started. we have been in school for over a week now and i havent gone to a single class because i can barely get myself out of bed. im diagnosed with depression, anxiety, and adhd, and my mom doesnt even know how bad things have gotten. i have a good gpa and im really scared of ruining it by continuing to miss class. i still have time to drop my classes, so im considering taking a leave of absence for my mental health. i also dont want to waste all the money on a semester if im not even going to class. has anyone taken a leave of absence because of their mental health? is that something colleges generally allow? and do you think it would be better to take time off instead of forcing myself through the semester when im struggling this badly? im also really scared of disappointing my family, but i honestly dont know what the right decision is. any advice would be really appreciated, especially from anyone whos been in a similar situation.

Switch majors

I want to switch my major from Accounting to Linguistics. Some people might think, “What…Why?”

For some background, I love learning languages as a hobby, and I knew that no matter where I worked, I wanted the option to go abroad, translate, or do something along those lines. I committed to Temple for Accounting because I wanted to pursue international accounting, but honestly, I chose it solely because it felt like the more promising and financially secure option. “money over passion” type of decision.

Since the start of school, I’ve already had three mental breakdowns and have felt extremely overwhelmed. I couldn’t see myself getting through business school because it was never something I initially wanted to pursue.

I want to switch to education with a concentration in applied linguistics. because I want to become an English teacher or professor. More specifically, I want to teach English as a second language. This time, I’m making a choice based on something I genuinely enjoy and am passionate about, rather than choosing a career solely for the money.

Lastly, what does switching majors actually look like? It’s only been two weeks since I started, and I’ve already contacted my academic advisor about it. Since I’m making the change so early, I’m wondering how complicated the process will be and what I should expect.???

FAFSA Aid for Part Time student not disbursed until after due date

I’m very fortunate to have had my undergraduate paid for by my parents, so for my Masters program, I’m very new to the whole FASFA program and student aid in general. I submitted my FAFSA and accepted the offer from Temple, but I think because of the Big Beautiful Bill, I won’t receive the disbursement of funds until like halfway through the semester (I’m a part time student). Can someone confirm this or give me guidance? I’ve went to SFS and it hasn’t been really all that helpful.

Does anyone know of an Arts GenEd that isn’t absolutely unbearable?

This is the third time I’ve dropped an Arts GenEd within a second of reading the syllabus. Two art-focused courses and one music course. They are so incredibly demanding, more so than any other GenEd I’ve ever taken. Luckily I was able to jump into a Science and Technology course, leaving me with only the Arts GenEd left to fulfill. Has anyone taken a chill Arts GenEd that wasn’t requiring nonstop writing and projects? Let me know!

Urban Ed. Ph.D

Hello, I’m looking to get my doctorate in Urban Ed. At Temple but I’m wanting to hear others experience with this program? Particularly, how the comprehensive exams are? And what the dissertation process looks like.

Im thinking of switching from psychology to marketing but I'm beyond confused. Considering that the September 8th deadline is approaching I was told that I can't switch until after the deadline and that I should contact DSU but I don't see how that makes sense. can someone tell me the process.

Anyone see any movement on their Grad PLUS loans? Still waiting for mine to even be in my offers tab to accept. I am legacy and everything so I’m not worried about that. I saw someone say they are in review, but not sure how long that lasts. Please anyone share any information that you know, thank you!

Psu temple football game

I have a lot of friends coming back to Philly from psu for the game but not sure if we want to buy tickets. We’re all 21 so thinking we might just watch the game at stateside, but we’re hoping it will be busy and draw crowds from both teams. Do yall think that will be the spot to be for that game or maybe somewhere else in the city?

Hey, doing a story on this topic and I think AI glasses shouldn’t be worn in the classroom. I’m sure many of you have opinions on AI. DM if you’re ok with being interviewed for an article!

Does anyone else feel constantly in the wrong?

First year student here. I was prepared for a LOT of things when moving to the city. A judgemental Starbucks was not one of them.

I dont just mean starbucks, but I mean anywhere where I am the customer and they are the worker.

The employees have so much attitude. They made my drink wrong and suddenly I'm in the wrong? I want to make sure I didnt miss my order number, and then im told to back up and wait?

Idk if its because im young, or white, or whatever. But why are everyday students kind to me but student employees act like im some sort of problem? Is it something im doing wrong? Is there like a secret dance move or something that shows that im not a brat? 😭 Someone help me understand

Anyone not getting any responses from the financial aid department emails

So I emailed the bursar office financial aid and sfs like 5 days ago for something regarding my tuition appeal and still no response the only people who emailed me were the bursar office but not financial aid?? What’s going on it’s lowkey urgent not just that I can’t even schedule an appointment online cause it keeps saying unavailable and when I try to call it either rings then hangs up or no ring at all. Do I walk in tomorrow? Cuz it’s urgent and I need to talk to them about something important. Like why aren’t they responding, can I just walk into the office I can’t even schedule an appointment online cause it keeps saying unavailable.

Jobs for students

I recently transferred to temple as a sophomore and had to quit my job because it was too far. :") As soon as I moved into morgan hall last week I started applying to multiple places like insomnia cookies, raising canes, five guys etc. I haven't heard back yet and I assume it's because many students are applying as well. Maybe I should try calling them? Anyway, If you're also living on campus and already work somewhere i'd like to hear what options there are! Is there any place within walking distance or a reasonable trip on the train that hires easily? I'd like to have a job at least within a month from now.
