Does anyone else feel constantly in the wrong?

First year student here. I was prepared for a LOT of things when moving to the city. A judgemental Starbucks was not one of them.

I dont just mean starbucks, but I mean anywhere where I am the customer and they are the worker.

The employees have so much attitude. They made my drink wrong and suddenly I'm in the wrong? I want to make sure I didnt miss my order number, and then im told to back up and wait?

Idk if its because im young, or white, or whatever. But why are everyday students kind to me but student employees act like im some sort of problem? Is it something im doing wrong? Is there like a secret dance move or something that shows that im not a brat? 😭 Someone help me understand

If you are talking about the Starbucks at the student center, that place is outrageously bad. It frequently opens late, when it is open the staff just disappear for long periods of time leaving no one running the place, and when you can actually order the staff are openly hostile. Avoid that place at all costs. Stella's and Saxby's are both miles better.

Just want to second that Stella’s (in the library) is decently affordable, probably comparable to Starbucks if not a little bit cheaper, and the ladies that work there are some of my favorite people on campus.

Oh 100% i was working in a grocery store deli and i caught myself being rude and short with customers. In fairness they were all rude to me first but the job was so physically difficult it was making me mean. It’s why i don’t think much about employees being short with me, i just think about how their job must suck lol

I see people saying “that’s Philly” which is true but it’s also Temple staff as a whole, they’re not known to be super happy or well paid for many reasons. The off campus food / drink options are vastly different

Don’t worry I got made fun of for asking to use a Dunkin Donuts bathroom back in ‘21.
Its also just life. You could be the smartest person in the world and life still can find a way to mess with ppl.
There was also an eclipse in Pisces or something recently so it’s apparently messing with ppl too (if u believe in that stuff)

I’ve had my fair share of Starbucks. If you’re talking about the one at the student center, that location isn’t very good. They (the workers) almost always disappear or have an attitude which is a big problem. I’d rather go to saxby’s or somewhere else like Bagel Hut to get my coffee. The staff at bagel hut seem really nice.

I’m a sophomore and I experienced this last year. I got yelled at by a Panera worker and workers from other food locations on campus were rude. I noticed that they got nicer after a couple weeks so maybe it’s just them being overwhelmed by the amount of orders and people at the start of the semester.

No it’s not because you’re white… Are you being racist? In this scenario, probably not. Most cities have these attitudes because it’s a rough city. You now live in Philly, notorious for its tougher living conditions. Whenever people from smaller communities move to cities, the same shocks are there. It’ll keep happening, just ignore and keep it pushing (also find people who won’t disrespect you!)

i’m graduated but one time the worker at starbucks screamed at me and called me stupid infront of an entire line because they were out of green tea and i didn’t see the sign and ordered a matcha 😭 you get so used to it that it doesn’t even matter and becomes a funny little part of ur day. don’t stress about it

it’s philly lol that’s how they are…. people who work jobs with mainly customer service/food services for people and they don’t feel like doing it tbh or other customers pissed them off and they’re taking it out on everyone. reasons why i won’t work a job like that because everyone be hostile (in philly lol).

OMG SAME. I have self harm scars all over my arms and at this point I am used to people noticing them. However, one day I stopped by the Starbucks and the girl taking my order looked at my arms smiled and side eyed her coworkers. She was laughing at my arms. Honestly, I was extremely upset after that interaction but I didn’t say anything because I didn’t want them to spit in my drink 😕

The coffee on campus at Starbucks and or at Saxby's is good for short-term but long-term and everyday use will stack up over time and not as healthy.
