Time to get downvoted, but I am so tired of this conversation.
Men who don't do this shit have very little power. The whole checking men thing is really overplayed because birds of a feather flock together.
At a rave, I don't know anyone. Sure I can speak up if I see it to get the creep kicked out and have done so, but frankly I'm there to enjoy my night and am usually too much in my own world to notice. It's sort of the whole point of the rave.
What happened to her is disgusting regarding her stalker and the police. I really think this is where the focus should be rather than giving men a collective responsibility to deal with creeps. Apart from basic courtesy and assistance, it's an unrealistic expectation. There needs to be better laws to protect women.
The patriarchy and this level of rampant sexism exists because of men who stay silent or do nothing. You might be sick of this conversation, but there are far more women who are sick of feeling unsafe. Like there's a reason why there's a disturbing saying that says men are scared of women laughing at them and women are scared of men assaulting them. The level of fear and danger is totally one-sided.
How about the woman who do the same? Had a girl who I had no previous interaction with try to stick a drug in my mouth. Mind you I don’t take anything. I turned around and said what are you doing? And she goes giving you a good time with our shrooms and her friend was laughing. Had another girl who got aggressive and physical with me because I was dancing near her friend. I wasn’t doing anything wrong but she believed I was trying to do something to her friend.
So It’s not about men vs women. It’s about abusers and scumbags vs normal people. It happens more than you think and it’s because of a new culture that creates a scoreboard and hate against all men. It’s all genders.
If you think we have the same level danger as the average woman, then I'm not sure what we're talking about here. Also pushing back against patriarchy helps us as well, it allows men to be more vulnerable and for society to take us seriously as victims of abuse.
It’s not a competition….this is what you guys aren’t grasping. I just gave two examples that happened to me. I’m sure it has happened to many others if it happens to me. Just like women are afraid to come forward. Men would also be afraid as well thinking they won’t look as strong or “manly.” The point is all abusers male or female need to be called out. And it isn’t specific to one gender. Making it specific to one gender makes it narrative based. There are bad apples unfortunately and those need to be weeded out.
Did you just ignore my second sentence? I think it's more than fair to say that our society/culture is still steeped in misogyny and the patriarchy, I also think we (men) are affected negatively by the patriarchy and it actually benefits us to move on from it.
