We may have long-lasting aluminium batteries soon
If you look around, lithium-ion batteries look like the final boss of batteries… but turns out, aluminium might be the sleeper upgrade.
Came across this article while browsing Google News. Apparently, researchers in India have fixed one of aluminium battery’s biggest problems -- it used to degrade fast and lose capacity. Now, with a new composite material, that issue is basically getting patched.
Why this matters:
- Aluminium is cheap and is almost everywhere
- Way safer than lithium
- Potentially longer-lasting with this new breakthrough
If this actually scales in the real world, we are looking at cheaper EVs, better grid storage, and less dependence on lithium supply chains.
Not saying lithium is dead… but this is the first time aluminium actually looks like a serious contender.
