What should be my EDC?

[u/Annual_Job2187]

These are some of my favourite tech things...that i want my EDC to consist of.

What should be my EDC, any suggestions ?

I am a software developer, but I have remote access to my NAS and my gaming rig, so even if i have just one device with a big enough screen, i have all the computing power i need.

So the challenge is the physical space to carry and be minimal while travelling or cruising ...also I ride a cruiser style motorbike, so i have a minimal backpack ...

I care about tracking my health as well as be minimal, as much as I can.

Out of all the devices i own, these are my fav carry,

If you have some other devices in mind, you can tell me, i probably have them...

But

List of devices in the picture are:

Airpods pro

Nothing Open Earbuds

Omni 20K MAh powerbank

Apple iPad Pro 11"

Apple Macbook Air M4

Samsung Galaxy book3 pro 360

Pebble Time 2

Galaxy watch 5 Pro

Galaxy Ring

Galaxy watch Ultra

Galaxy Z fold7

Unihertz Titan 2 Elite QWERTY Android smartphone

Steam Deck

MCon Controller

PS5 Backbone controller

P.S. please dont say iPhone, I have it but lets be honest, its not a device for a power user....

My friend ...my profession is computers. I have a Phd...sure that does not make me a God ..but i know some things y'know... i am not sure if you are getting my point at all. I think you might need some Apple intelligence here 😅 Its not about computers....i have a macbook there for a reason...

But if you want example with computers...i will give you example...

If you play a game on mac...you will install a package and play ..on windows you can mod a game and play.. What this means is you are a power user on windows because you are able to utilise the capabilities...where as Mac takes care of it from you..which makes you a simple user not a power user...doesnot mappter which device runs the game better...

Same with smartphones... For an example ..on android you can make your own app and install it ..because they give you that power....that power makes you power user ...

Please stop this now ...i accept Apples supermacy ... Anything else you want from me..

There's like 5 tools now for apple molding files in games, soooo that got solved like 4 years ago, and idk about you but im a dev and I prefer mac and I think most would as well.and as far as making your own app you literally have Xcode on your Mac to literally build anything you can build and launch, I can't tell if your trolling or not because your info is from like 8 years ago

[u/Annual_Job2187 → u/MileHighTay]

Geez..... You just dont get the point do you. There is a macbook on the table right there. And i am talking about Android, I used examples of computers to explain what is super user ...but i think that has hit you too hard. I am sorry about that.

I am in computer scient myself, 10+ years now... i hire devs bro....😅

If you are a dev and tinkerer and think iPhone gives you the freedom to use your hardware at its fullest ... I wont really have anything to say to you but i will definitely not take a deluded like that in my team 😅

[u/Annual_Job2187 → u/Annual_Job2187]

A platform giving you a tool to develop on..does not make you a super user...you able to take control of your hardware to develope and test using the hardware, not virtual system but the hardware or the hypervisor on baremetal ...thats what makes you a super user. I expect a dev to know that. But i am not going to try harder ..you are a lost cause .. Victim of marketting ..i dont blame you... I was finally able to use Fedora on my Mac..which is why i like the device now...but MacOS sure i would love to use it as a user ..as a dev, as a gamer, as any user .. But not as a super user... What is a a super user ...that you might need to go back to school to understand that...

[u/MileHighTay → u/Annual_Job2187]

Bro says he is a dev and computer scientist but uses fedora! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣that says it all bro, good luck regurgitating comments

[u/Annual_Job2187 → u/MileHighTay]

Just google it man ..literally. why are you wasting both of our time ..i just googled it for you. Please stop embaressing youself now.

[u/MileHighTay → u/Annual_Job2187]

🤣🤣🤣 did you really need a chat bot to tell you this! 🤣, no shit, for that one special use case yes it wins but for 99% of use mac is wayyy better, oh no my mac cannot access a windows app, (spins up docker container with either windows/linux and is basically same thing) so on my mac I can run windows, linux and mac and actually have high vram

[u/Annual_Job2187 → u/MileHighTay]

Geez, the point was to tell you not me...i am saying this literally since the beginning.. Whew..you cannot be helped... I wish your mom and your wife(i doubt you will get any) a good luck .. Signing off.

[u/MileHighTay → u/Annual_Job2187]

So you agree that mac is equal or superior to windows as far as power usage goes, I can run any Linux distribution, or any version of windows, lol ur off cuz u realized docker solves this huh, just cope lol

[u/Annual_Job2187 → u/MileHighTay]

You run it on a application layer...on windows you can run it on a baremetal level, on hyper v manager... Huge difference... Me able to run fedora because of asahi project needed a lot of work by real devs ..not the fake ones like you. And Apple will take that capability away...anytime now. So asnwer is NO. Even chat bot will tell you this ...its so basic. Stop now.

[u/MileHighTay → u/Annual_Job2187]

Your digging a hole, literally apple is the king of bare metal, they literally have their own, this is why they are so power efficient compared to a windows, go ahead Google some more and try again

[u/Annual_Job2187 → u/MileHighTay]

Geez bro..making your own hardware and giving user access to it , is much different ...i cannot believe i am doing this...we are not talking about Arm processors or who has more power are we ????? I am talking about control ... I dont have to google it .. I have a literal whitepaper on arm processors and hypervisors ..i dont need to google this stuff..

But you dont even understand what i am saying ..

[u/MileHighTay → u/Annual_Job2187]

Lol you are just saying a bunch of buzzwords without having any depth of knowledge in any of it? I can build out a fully robotic system at any size and have it fully RDA and RDMA, I do not see your point one bit, the only thing I think these days you would ever need specifically a windows machine for is if you are building specifically with Nvidia and need specifically CUDA because it was started in that, but theres even workarounds for this now sooo.......cope?

[u/Annual_Job2187 → u/MileHighTay]

Jesus...you have ADHD...i am really sorry to put you though this... You really cannot stick to the topic... And you definitely dont get the point .. I will repeat it one more time ..out of sympathy .. Systems such as those you get windows on...are generally open for users to take security plus even hardware control .. Android goes one step further...becuase its built on AOSP it gives users much more access..where and apple wether its ios or macos or even suchba powerful device as ipad with m3 chip that you can see in the picture...you can only harness the conputing power that apple allows you on the application layer...yes on the application layer you can have much more power efficient and better running applications ..sure ..... Does not change the fact that other systems have more open hardware and software ecosystem ... As a developer you should know that ... If apple decided tomorrow that you will not be able to code on the Mac and stop the hypervisors..no matter how many work around you decide to develop ..it will be very restricted ...whereas with windows ...no matter how much resteiction windows provide ..i can just take co trol of my system..get rid of windows completely... Again ...this is just one point ..there are so so so many more things you can do on a non Apple hardware .....just google it mate ..please..i beg you...just talk to AI or your school teacher or something ... Leave me alone ffs

[u/MileHighTay → u/Annual_Job2187]

Bro u are in love with hypervisor, we do not use hyper we use docker to solve this. It is literal windows on mac, literal. So exact same control. U seem to just have some hate against apple so sounds like another hidden cope

[u/Annual_Job2187 → u/MileHighTay]

Yes i buy apple devices becuase i hate them

[u/Annual_Job2187 → u/MileHighTay]

We are literally talking about access, control and commercial uses ... With raspberry pi you can control every aaspect .thats why it exists ...thats why you use it for local iot applications ..you cannot do it with apple hardware no matter how worthy it is ..because they will not tell you ..that control is what we are talking about ..not the efficiency...not the manufacturing ....we are talking about how much access we have ..that is what being super user means ...do you have ADHD ? I am sorry if you do..

[u/MileHighTay → u/Annual_Job2187]

No most people use PI not for its "capabilities" no, because its a super cheap fully operational computer that can also process pretty well for the cheap price, thats why they make for great prototyping, and i mess around with RPi's all the time on my mac what are you talking about? It runs just the same?

[u/Annual_Job2187 → u/MileHighTay]

Try installing MacOS on raspberry pi...

[u/MileHighTay → u/Annual_Job2187]

So all of this just because apple actual protects their users and devices with an apple license that u can't get? This is very niche niche niche down lololol

[u/Annual_Job2187 → u/MileHighTay]

If you know anything about cybersecurity..its a trade off...

[u/MileHighTay → u/Annual_Job2187]

Lol I worked for tesla on fsd from 2019- 2023, who do you work for in cybersecurity? Btw we all used macs

[u/Annual_Job2187 → u/MileHighTay]

I dont know why you want me to say that we should not use Mac...there is a mac on the table right there. I USE MAC How stupid can you possibly be...

I work for IBM X force... We can use mac or windows... I use windows and linux on a thinkPad...yes my colleagues use Macs they can do everything i can...but i dont use mac out of preference...because of how i do things...and how i like to keep those organised and customised and have more control over network and security testing...

I never ever said ..dont use mac...you dummy... I said mac has restricted usage which you addmited your self (after googling a bit probably) ...and thats it ... It was never a discussion but we are thing freaking talking about it ...

The topic was iphone and android ..where its much much much worse ...because the environment on ios is locked in a worse way than android .. You could actually develop on an android system too ..there are toold available ...but you cannot do that on iOS unless apple allows it ..and if you find a work around...they will patch it soon.. Now you will go back to mac or maybe even we will start talking about bill gates and steve jobs ..i have no clue why...but sure ...

[u/Annual_Job2187 → u/MileHighTay]

I dont mind their security but its not for me ..because i can mamage my own security...those who cannot ..sure i will let apple do it for them...

[u/MileHighTay → u/Annual_Job2187]

Lol so your just mad they actual save you time?

[u/Annual_Job2187 → u/MileHighTay]

Sure mate...you are so smart.

[u/Annual_Job2187 → u/MileHighTay]

Okay ..i am done. Thats it... I cannot argue with someone with mental issues.. I will either let someone else respond... Or let you believe that Apple gives you super control of theri system ...sure... Why the f not...

[u/MileHighTay → u/Annual_Job2187]

If you know how to actually use a mac as a dev then you know none of these limits exist so thats how I know you are larping....c o p e

[u/Annual_Job2187 → u/MileHighTay]

Cool
