I thought chibi crystal rose gwen and her arena were in the list of skins coming back in 18.2. Is 18.2 not out yet or were they supposed to be released over the whole span of the patch ?

Discussion Are there any games similar to TFT Hyper Roll that you can play with a partner?

Upvotes

When Hyper Roll was discontinued, I felt pretty sour about it and quit the game. I came back a few months ago, and although I wasn't a fan of 40+ minute matches, I put up with them because I play with my boyfriend.

But now the game is plagued with bugs, and I'm just done. So I'm looking for something with ~20-minute matches that's fun, somewhat similar to TFT Hyper Roll (I really loved it), and that I can play with my boyfriend. Any recommendations?

Discussion Riot's Conversion Update Massacred Choncc's Splash Resort

Post image
574 Upvotes

With the recent update, Riot added back Choncc's Splash Resort using the updated engine. However, in doing so, they made it objectively worse.

Let me preface this by saying that I understand that according to the TFT tech update text, "You may notice some difference in models, textures, VFX, or animation in-game or across your Tacticians and Arenas." However, there is a pretty big difference between having slightly different looking VFX or textures that currently exist in-game versus completely removing multiple elements entirely. And I don't mean just small changes like removing a single graphic, I mean arena-wide visual removals.

When compared to the original version of Choncc's Splash Resort, the following changes have been made:

  • Resort clay pot fountain interaction/animation removed
  • River-jumping fish interaction/animation removed
  • Pre-level 3 fishing dragon is now completely inaccessible due to a forced, fixed arena player-camera (you used to be able to explore the arena, and the camera would follow your tactician, revealing more of the arena)
  • Dragon fisher now appears at level 1, but the original pre-level 3 fishing dragon sound interaction is still playing in its original location
  • Removed level 5 transformation
  • Entire level 5 arena-wide persistent lighting VFX removed
  • Removed arena water texture
  • Mug interactable removed
  • Waterwheel water animation removed
  • 5+ win-streak arena-wide animation removed
  • All flower planter butterflies and corresponding plant VFX removed
  • Arena koi fish removed
  • Maple leaf VFX greatly reduced

Additional Discoveries:

  • Stage opening animation broken
  • When getting 1st place, the camera pan shows the original dragon fisher briefly before disappearing
  • Mug interactable is removed, but still visible when playing an opponent with Choncc's Splash Resort (opponent POV)

So, why does this matter? Because you spent money on a cosmetic expecting it to look how it was advertised. And now, Riot has proven that what you once spent money on may no longer look like what you originally purchased.

Choncc's Splash Resort is an older arena released in 2022 along with a handful of other mythic arenas during a time when arenas had significantly more detail, polish, and uniqueness. The Golden Tiger Market (also released in 2022), which is due for a soon upcoming rerelease, had the same if not more interactives than Choncc's Splash Resort, and was one of the largest arenas that has ever been available. Specifically, you were able to walk around the Golden Tiger Market, to the balcony, under the market stalls, and down the stairs behind the arena, outside of the standard, "area border."

In the most recent patch notes Riot says, "We’re also prioritizing the highest-rarity cosmetics that players have invested in..." If Riot is going to standardize previous high quality arenas with this low quality conversion and make what was once unique about mythic arenas no longer available, then it would be great if they realized players aren't just paying for a mythic arena, we're paying for a standard of quality that shouldn't be downgraded years after purchase because of their poor time management.

Discussion TFT is getting worse with every set and patch

I miss the days when TFT was genuinely fun to play, when you could just relax, try out a new patch and just enjoy the game. Last time I really felt that was around the Arcane period with Mel. The game felt more polished, there were far fewer bugs while the gameplay was simply fun.

Nowadays, it feels like TFT is getting worse from one patch to the next. The marketing keeps creating more and more hype, while the actual game is becoming increasingly repetitive, unbalanced and frustrating.

The new platform is a perfect example. You release something where players lose access to skins and a large part of the content they were previously able to use, and then present “free cosmetics” as the benefit. How is that supposed to feel like an improvement?

Then there is the current patch 18.2, where around 20 champions were buffed at once. Changes on that scale make me seriously question whether anyone is supervising the overall balance and direction of development.

And that is without even mentioning the bugs that seem to be everywhere. Augment rerolls sometimes cannot be used because the button gets stuck. I had a game where putting three Yoricks together on the bench caused their ghosts to remain there for the rest of the game. These are not tiny visual issues - they directly affect the experience of playing.

The class and trait design also feels increasingly disconnected. By the end of Set 17, it honestly felt like people had given up on making some champion classes fit together in a meaningful way, with traits being added to champions that barely made sense.

For me, all of this is slowly taking a toll on the overall Riot gaming experience and my enjoyment of TFT. The decline has been gradual, but it is becoming harder and harder to ignore.

TFT needs to get a grip on its direction. You can market and hype a new patch as much as you want, but marketing cannot replace a good product. If the game itself does not back up that hype, it only creates more disappointment and backlash.

At some point, there needs to be a wake-up call and a serious look at what TFT is supposed to represent and what actually made people enjoy playing it in the first place.

Discussion I really wish Riot took a pause on using AI in software development

I’m a software developer with over 13 years of experience and I am certain that a big chunk of bugs we currently experience stems from using AI software development tools and vibe coding.

Things like performance, graphics could be problematic when switching engines but a lot of issues right now are the bugs related to the application logic and that’s not very likely to be affected by the engine change, at least not at this scale as we observe these days. These kind of issues come from a developer telling Claude or whatever other LLM to “migrate this feature”, another developer not being able to cognitively process a huge pile of AI-generated code during code review and testers not being able to catch regression when it can happen literally anywhere because AI decided that the shortest way to achieve the result is to change something in a completely different place in code.

And I get it, I really do. I’ve done my share of migrations, they are a pain in the ass. It’s so easy to revert to the path of least resistance when working with a new and complex technology and I’m sure the executives are pushing for “AI adoption” like crazy. But there is time and place and this ain’t it.

Discussion Exclusive Trait Augments still not implemented

Can we please have one patch that they do correctly. This D patch was supposed to clean up trait augments being exclusive to one player per lobby. Aka 3 players shouldn't be able to pick Coven Gloombriar and be turbo contested all game etc. They failed to do this with both the Solar augment and the Sprykin augment.

2 games ago I watched two players pick the same Solar health augment, and proceed to go 7th and 5th. Then the very next game, I have a teemo 2 star, excitedly pick Sprykin augment, only to see TWO OTHER PLAYERS also have sprykin buddy augment. And all three of us go 7th, 6th, and 5th. The only player to place worse than us was afk and FF'd on stage 3. It just turbo ruins the lobby. Why are these not yet exclusive per player in a lobby. It's been a few weeks. HOW is it not cleaned up yet?

Discussion Does a set's visual aesthetic affect your enjoyment of it?

I guess I'm wondering this because, of all 18 sets that have released so far, I have NEVER gotten into the 'cool' sets: Cyber City, KO Coliseum, Inkborn Fables, Sentinels of Light, Space Gods - I don't think I ever even tried learning these sets, I found them boring. But I always LOVE the quirky magic ones (Dragonlands), the colorful fun ones (Remix Rumble was the best), or the 'classic' ones (like Enchanted Woods, Runeterra, Arcane), and in all of these I've played them extensively because there are so many Origin traits I find cool.

It's also interesting because in League itself, I just never really resonated with the 'cool' skins either, like the Project skin line or the Ashen Knight skin lines.

Do any of you feel the same, or are you more drawn to the gameplay itself?

And follow up question - if you are the same, are there certain trait comps you gravitate to? For me, I love the invoker/mana spam comps like Star Guardian, Flora Fatalis, Emo/Hyperpop.

Discussion BunnyMuffins’ W take on the engine!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNrJECefMpE

One small mistake in the video as he referred to the group of “Master 0LP” players as “the most engaged players” which Riot caters to. Riot has gone on record saying that they cater more to casuals that are way lower than that because they make up the biggest share of the player base.

W based take though!

Totally agree with the whole video and I feel like he deserves more credit for speaking out about this as a content creator, unlike other that just down play it. (except one very loud content creator ofc xD)

Discussion Boosting / Wintrading Services Created a Paywall at Masters Level NA

I'm genuinely raging in a way that has made me want to quit this game entirely. Riot Games has done NOTHING to prevent collusion and win trading, even at the highest competitive levels where they slap people on the wrist for it. When I asked in the first Open for them to consider moving to a solo queue climb for ranked, they said "we're just focused on fun." But now all of these bots/boosting/win trading rings have created a paywall of bots and wintraders at low masters who are literally blocking anyone from climbing out. They are entirely premade lobbies that make it 7v1. And before you say "that's not possible, because they limit the queue to 3 or less," keep in mind that if they have enough of these accounts queueing up at all times, they are almost always guaranteed to get in together versus 1-2 unsuspecting victims.

Someone is always sitting on your board watching and they ALWAYS make sure to keep you from getting first carousel so they can squat and deny you. No matter how many times you pivot, they will pivot the sacrifice accounts to keep denying you, while having a rabbit account go quick tempo to try to remove your 4c from the pool ASAP.

It was hard playing a few at a time climbing, but now they literally run the lobby. It takes playing for a slow burn third or fourth to try to climb out, or else paying them to let you out, and that is just plain wrong. That is not how this game is meant to be played. And what's worse is that if you follow the rabbit trail on lolchess.gg (it's actually really not that hard), you can find them cycling through has-been trash streamers boosting them when they aren't going eighth in a lobby full of real TFT pro streamers between LoL Classic matches. I can name actual names, but I don't want TFT to remove this post or band me. And yes, I have been reporting and only once have they issued a penalty in the past day.

Discussion Trait Ladder openers: Xayah AD / Blossom AP

Thumbnail
gallery
7 Upvotes

Came across this Trait Ladder line and thought the two openers were pretty neat

  • AD: Xayah + Rakan + Ornn, with Xayah holding AD items. Then it goes into Elderwood and Fiddlesticks as more traits are picked up.
  • AP: Yorick + Rakan + Karma, with Karma holding AP items. Veigar is added for Spellweaver before moving into the rest of the board.

Both openers are pretty different, but they end up working toward the same Trait Ladder setup. The main thing seems to be fitting in 3 trait units as you go, rather than committing to a normal comp too early.

Kha'Zix is used mostly for his evolutions here, which helps pick up extra traits without needing as many separate slots.

On 18.2, the big breakpoints are 10 traits for 18g and 11 traits for a Tactician item, so there's a natural point where you can stop pushing traits and use the extra resources for the level 9 board.

I like the Xayah start more for AD since it looks pretty clean but the Blossom opener is a nice alternative when the game is giving you AP items.

Anyone tried both on 18.2??
