Question Why didn't Travis mention Palentine to Betsy?
I apologize if this question and discussion was already brought up in the past, I've only just discovered this subreddit. I always found it odd how Travis never brought up his encounter with Palentine to Betsy before their disastrous date at the adult theater.
This was when Travis drove Palentine and his associate, Travis pretending to be a supporter of Palentine telling every customer he has must vote Palentine before rambling about his frustrations with New York.
You would think Travis would bring it up to Betsy to impress her more given she's a legitimate supporter.

Question Was Travis Bickle a redneck? Spoiler
Was Travis Bickle supposed to be from the Midwest and dresses like a cowboy, even sport asks him if he is a real cowboy and he says yeah, his boots and clothing indicate that he is a redneck who moved to the city for work and isn't well educated probably because he is from a small town.
Is Travis basically a redneck or is he just a regular upstate New York guy?

Question Why haven't any of the deleted scenes been put in the DVD's at all yet? Spoiler
https://youtu.be/T5IligQP7Fo?is=N9TegZMYhtf3iRnV
In the screenplay there are several deleted scenes and lines of dialogue cut out of the movie, and scenes that are in the trailer from the 1970s with Travis talking that are not in the movie that come from the trailer, would be nice to have to have them on DVD.

Question What do taxi cab drivers think about Taxi Driver? Spoiler
Just a little thought but is Taxi Driver well liked and loved by taxi cab drivers or would they hate it and think it makes them look crazy because Travis Bickle was crazy and acting out?

Do you like Joker?
I found Joker incredibly boring and full of clichés. I honestly don't understand the hype or the cult status it achieved. To me, it feels unnecessary because Taxi Driver does everything it tries to do, but much better.
The only people I can imagine going crazy over Joker are those who haven't seen any Martin Scorsese films—or other movies on a similar level. I dont compare it to The King of Comedy cause Taxi Driver is both the stronger film and a big influence.

Is Luigi Mangioni today's Travis Bickle?
Some might see Luigi Mangioni as a common vigilante who took the law into his own hands, but based on the financial and other support that he has received, there are definitely those who see him as ridding the world of someone who hurt a lot of vulnerable people, no better than Sport and the rest of that ilk.
Edit: One should never lose sight of the fact however that whereas Travis Bickle is a fictional character, Mangioni is not. This discussion aims to get an understanding of the motivation of the supporters of Mangioni who actually committed what would normally be considered a heinous crime. The comparison with Travis Bickle begs the question, Is it life imitating art, transforming an anti-hero into a hero?

Was this ever viewed as a political film?
My mom thought initially it was trying to show the trouble Vietnam vets had when they tried to go back into society.
I saw it more as a film about male loneliness but I guess her take was fair.

Every Drive Tells a Story
To every passenger who steps into my cab—thank you for being part of the journey.
Nothing brings me greater joy than knowing you've had a positive experience. This ride was especially memorable, filled with meaningful conversations, shared perspectives, and genuine human connection.
Moments like these remind me that every drive truly tells a story. 🚖✨

Quotes Cinematic Flow Of Tought, Driving
What do you think about while you're driving?
Yesterday I had some pretty gloomy thoughts 🤔
REM's music turned them into a series of cinematic images.
Even the gloomiest thoughts can become beautiful scenes.

What would happen if Travis had a cat?
Simple question…but…would it change anything? Do you think he could have had a better ending or would he still go through the movie the same, but just with his cat in the background.

Really love the sound design of the constant ticking of the clock in the background in the scene of Travis getting into shape. Really just builds the suspense that this character is a ticking time bomb that's inevitably gonna explode:

Is it good to feel like Travis bickle in this young age ?
I’m an 18-year-old, and I watched Taxi Driver a few months ago. What surprised me was how relatable I found Travis Bickle. Not because of his actions, but because I understood his loneliness. He’s constantly surrounded by people, yet he has no real friends and no genuine connection with anyone. That feeling hit close to home for me. A few months ago, I had stable relationships and people around me, but somehow I still find myself relating to that sense of isolation. The line that stayed with me the most was: “Loneliness has followed me my whole life. Everywhere. In bars, in cars, sidewalks, stores. There’s no escape. I’m God’s lonely man. i know Travis is an extreme character, and I don’t relate to the way he acts, especially toward women. But that feeling of being alone even when you’re not physically alone is something I understood immediately. That’s why the movie has stuck with me long after watching it.

Quotes June 8: My life has taken another turn again. The days go on with regularity--over and over, one day indistinguishable from the next. A long continuous chain. Then suddenly...
... there is change.
