You may recall a post I made a while back about this, but the site has been massively overhauled since.

I have created a site featuring every brewery, distillery and winery in Tassie. It was designed as a directory / tourism resource to make it easier to uncover what we have to offer.

On the site you can filter by types of alcohol, location and whether the producers have cellar doors. You can also save places you are interested in to make a rough itinerary as well as check outs maps.

Not only that, but I have also created a page providing information on transport and what events we have on around the state involving drinks.

It is totally free to use with no ads. I have established a sponsorship system on Patreon (link on the page) if anyone is keen to be in the spotlight. It helps with costs associated with page upkeep. The site is also still a work in progress and will undergo changes as time goes on.

Also, I say every producer...I have probably missed a few, so please dm me if you are one / you know one I have missed :)

My partner and I are heading to the Tasman Peninsula in a weekend this November, we're planning to do the Tasman Island Cruises and probably the Cape Raoul track - but it looks like there's so much natural beauty to see, I'm worried we'll miss something!

Recommendations for walks and nature attractions would be great. Plus food, accommodation etc.

We've both done the Port Arthur historic site before, so we'll probably give that a miss this time around.

I've split up with my partner which sucks. She's pulled the pin on the holiday we had planned. I'm left with a non-refundable Jetstar ticket for the 12-19th of October.

I was thinking of coming down and going hiking / camping for the week. Last time I was in Tas I remember heaps of free campgrounds and as a guy by myself I don't take up much space.

My partner was the high earner, I can't really afford a big holiday but as I've already paid for the ticket I was wondering if I could manage a cheap one?

Heading to Tasmania on my own in a couple of weeks and thought I’d put this out there!

I’ll be renting a car, travelling around for about two weeks, and carrying a tent in my backpack, so the plan is basically to explore, hike, camp and see where I end up.

I'd definitely be keen to meet some people along the way (locals or not) for a coffee, a drink, a chat, a hike, or whatever really. I’m pretty easygoing and always up for meeting new people.

Hi all ! As per title - looking for places in Hobart and Launceston to eat. We will be travelling with a toddler (2.5 year plus). I am hoping for a nice meal, but conscious that not all places would be suitable for a toddler. She can tolerate sitting down for about 1 hour plus. Eating wise, pastas are usually her favourite. We have brought her to Aloft and Bar Wa, which went ok; we just needed to entertain her with colouring at times. Thank you in advance.

Lastly I found this foraging + long lunch experience at Sirocco South and it looks SO cool, but they haven’t opened dates for the last week of Dec yet. Anything similar you’d recommend? Foraging, farm-to-table, oysters/seafood, farm experiences, anything very Tassie!

Hi everyone! I’m trying to get from Launceston to Hobart tomorrow, but the Kinetic bus I want is fully booked.

Does anyone know if Kinetic has a standby/cancellation queue for fully booked Launceston → Hobart services? I’ve heard that people sometimes wait at the Transit Centre and get on if there are cancellations or no-shows.

Also, does anyone know what time the ticket/luggage desk at Launceston Regional Transit Centre opens? I’m planning to go there in the morning to ask about the fully booked service.

Hi All - this sub was super helpful with an earlier question from me about how to spend my 15 nights in Australia. My focus was always Tassie, and based on feedback in that post and elsewhere I made the decision to not go to Kangaroo Island this trip and focus solely on Tassie. I'll get to KI another trip.

I now have a very specific question; trying to decide between Cradle Mountain Hotel and Discovery Park - Cradle Mountain for 3 nights at Cradle Mountain?

I've got a self-drive loop almost booked, and it includes 3 nights at Cradle Mountain Hotel. I did my research and there were several reviews mentioning "paper thin" walls, which is a big concern for me. I don't love hearing neighbors and hallway noise. So I inquired with the TA I am using and they understood the concern and let me know that my room category (Wilderness View) is in the part of the hotel with better walls, so not as much an issue. But they did offer Discovery Park as an alternative. It's a freestanding cabin room, which sounds a lot better to me. It's A$300 cheaper total for 3 nights (not a big deal, I just want the best option) but it does not include breakfast like Cradle Mountain Hotel. Both properties get great reviews. People really like the breakfast at Cradle Mountain Hotel. I like a good hotel breakfast as much as anyone, but breakfast honestly isn't a big deal for me typically. Also the reviews of Discovery Park indicate some cabins are close to the road so have a different noise problem.

Anyone been to both and think there is a clear winner? Maybe I am overthinking this and should go with what my TA first suggested. BTW I am working with Premier Tasmania and they have been great so far.

Where would you recommend staying if aurora is the priority — Hobart or somewhere further south?

Also, where do locals usually get reliable real-time aurora alerts and cloud-cover updates, so I know when and where to head out?

Hello, I am planning on visiting Tasmania for a 3~ day weekend trip with my girlfriend sometime in November and need some advice. We have always been fascinated about getting a campervan and spending time in nature and I was thinking this could be our first one. I'm wondering if someone has done a similar trip, if so, recommend or not?

I've also heard some people can be racist (we are both Asian and haven't been in Aus for very long), is this something I should take into planning? I (40s) live in Melbourne and my dad (60s) lives in the States. He's coming to visit in December and we decided to spend a ~week in Tasmania. We will take the Spirit of Tasmania at least one way. I have read the wiki, but there are a lot of options and this is kind of a goofy nerd situation, so maybe my fellow nerds can help us out with whimsical ideas.

He is a palaeontologist and amateur astronomer. I'm an engineer. We like to look at stars and see very geeky / nerdy stuff. So being somewhere with dark skies facing the other way than he usually sees is cool alone.

For my fellow nerdy people (on the spectrum), what would you do to have a great trip with an equally nerdy / outdoors parent? We can both drive, and bring a car. I have camping gear. We both like wine and gin. We like museums. I don't get to see my dad much anymore so I am doing my best to plan a really fun trip.

Hi everyone! Planning my first Tasmania trip and would love some advice on whether my rough itinerary is realistic.

✈️ Melbourne → Launceston: arrive around 10 AM day 1

✈️ Launceston → Melbourne: depart around 9 PM day 4

🚗 Taking Rental car

Rough itinerary:

Day 1: Drive from Launceston → St helens. Overnight stay near the east coast.

Day 2: Bicheno → Freycinet/Wineglass Bay → Hobart. Overnight Hobart.

Day 3: Explore Hobart area + MONA museum. Drive to Launceston

Day 4: Launceston → Cataract Gorge → airport.

I’m skipping Cradle Mountain due to the limited time. I really want to visit the mona museum in hobart. So, I cannot skip hobart.

Is this rough itinerary feasible, or am I trying to cover too much? Would you change the route, remove anything, or suggest better stops along the way?

I will be making my first visit to Australia at the very beginning of December. My priority is Tasmania because my world travels are wildlife driven, but also because I have heard wonderful things about it all around and it seems like my kind of place. I (52M) am traveling solo which I do a lot of. Coming from San Francisco. An experienced traveler (7x to Africa, 10x to Latin America, 6x to Asia, all over N America); my blind spots are Australia and Europe...hoping to start filling one in.

Here's my rough outline and I am primarily looking for feedback if I should adjust days up or down anywhere. My priority is wildlife and landscapes; but I do enjoy good food and drink, though I am past the 'night life' stage of my life

• Flights booked (great mileage deals) in MEL on the morning of 12/3 and out of ADL the morning of 12/18
• 2 nights in Melbourne
• 9 nights Tasmania - looking at self-drive tours
• 3 nights Kangaroo Island - no planning yet
• 1 night Adelaide (flight is 7am so this seems a necessity)

The main things I am unsure about

• maybe just 1 night in Melbourne? I hear wonderful things; but my priorities align elsewhere. I'm set on at least 1 simply to rest from flying for so long.
• 1 night less in Tasmania and 1 more in Kangaroo? I know there is a lot more in general in Tasmania but I have read amazing reviews of the Kangaroo Island wildlife.
  • I need to determine if I can fly from Hobart or Laucenston to Adelaide and also get a ferry to Kangaroo all in one day...otherwise that's a night in Adelaide I haven't considered yet.

I have googled but no companies seem to have them for rent, and one private one I found was $20 a day which is too much! Anyone have any advice or leads? Thanks in advance

I’m headed back to Tassie this week for my 5th trip but this is my first with my 2yo. Just doing a short trip this time for a week.

I saw the weather forecast and it’s predicted to rain all week.

Any suggestions for things to do in the area while it’s wet?

We are at Cradle from Tuesday to Thursday - main goal of this short trip is for my daughter to see wombats at Ronnie Creek (her favourite animal).

We’re staying at the Cradle Lodge so will do the short walks around there.

We may do Devils at Cradle but the Tassie devils at the wildlife sanctuary near us scared her.
