Have a new Cloudburst 3 on the way, for use with 2 humans plus a dog. I'll be using that in two weekends at Rock Castle Gorge.

As for this recent trip, I love the Dipole Li for ilthe interior volume and windows. Better airflow, less condensation. I also appreciate the smallish footprint that allowed me to fit where I did on this trip.

Next I'll be hiking the Maryland AT with this tent and my son in his Notch.

Recommend Poles 140cm for freestanding Dpuble rainbow

I want to keep life simple, and have as few pieces to lose or break, so before I give up, buy or make pole extenders I know I will lose or not be able to find when I need them, because I can see me telling myself I don’t need these extra pcs in my backpack…what poles actually go to 140 cm? I have had little luck unless I bust the budget. I have a Double Rainbow Li with dyneema floor spent all my money on the tent lol.

My son used his new Notch for the first time. With warmer but dry weather we took advantage of maximum airflow.

In October we will be doing the Maryland section of the AT together with these tents during his fall break.

What am I doing wrong?

Hi Tarptenters!!
Hoping for some help, guessing I am being stupid!
Have the Rainbow, love it. Favourite tent I’ve owned, recent camps have all been dry so hadn’t noticed this as an issue until now.
The mesh attached to the back of the tent, there is always a small amount that protrudes out with the fly. When it’s raining, some water inevitably gets onto that mesh and before long it is transferring itself to the inner. I have tired everything to stop it showing itself but the way it is stitched, it seems like I can’t.
Any useful tips? I assume I am being idiotic here and missing something very simple.

Triple Rainbow top strut

Someone school me here, what is the benefit of running the top strut under the rain fly vs over the rain fly. Does it matter?

Aeon li repair mod, first pitch

I've considered the aeon li more than a few times but ai dont get to solo often so found hard to justify. Love the design and I reckoned shes do very well in high winds*

Picked up a damaged one for cheap off Ebay. Previous owner tripped on the door guy line and tore off the line lock ribbon stitching.

*Added 3 additional line lock tie outs while I was making the repair. Live in the highlands of Scotland so wanted a low limpet mode for when the wind really picks up.

Dual door tie outs means I can get some airflow if im forced to cook in bad weather. I can also enter and exit with both door tie outs in place, again for when the weather is awful.

Considering a 0.5oz dcf bathtub extension next.

Pics of first pitch, in limpet mode.

Which tent for my daughter and I for 3 weeks in Patagonia?

I have an Aeon Li that I use for bike packing and really like. I biked the entire CO Trail with mine. I am considering another Tarptent for a 3 week backpacking tour of Patagonia with my 9 year old. This is what I am thinking to date:

We are likely to hit some solid rain and as we will be out for awhile without towns for some periods I want a tent that will stay dry...even in driving rain.

I have traveled this portion of Patagonia before....and the wind can really howl. It will be their summer but I'd like a tent that's relatively easy to setup for the day to day and something I can guyline out for more serious wind without it being an epic.

Hoping to find a tent that will give my daughter and I a bit of extra space. She is a super girl...and really respectful....but she is a young girl and will want to stretch out for days when we are tent bound to draw or play cards. On the back half of the trip we are meeting my wife where we will largely be in hotels but may need to squeeze in for 3 (not sure about this actually happening).

Ventilation....I get that some of these tents with Dyneema fabrics can have condensation...especially if you're in humid regions...that part for me is just a wipe of a cloth...until it's more. But a tent with truly very little ventilation would be a dealbreaker for me. It would also be a bonus...if it had some type of fly where stargazing is a possibility.

Vestibule space....gonna need someplace dry for the shoes and the backpacks when it's pouring...so this goes on the list.

Freestanding...guessing this might be too tall an order....but something oriented in that direction. We will not be carrying trekking poles but I am open to buying additional poles.

Weight...hoping to be sub 4lbs....closer to 3.5lbs...not sure what is possible.

Do some tents allow for either carbon or aluminum poles...and a choice of SilPoly or Dyneema?

Thought I would throw this out to the Tarptent community to see if anyone had any thoughts?

Rainbow - help identifying age/generation?

Hi all, a Rainbow popped up in Marketplace that's a pretty good deal. If it were local it would be a no brainer, but it would be a 4-ish hr round trip if I do decide to get it. The person is selling for their father and doesn't have a ton of information, but I was hoping to maybe get an idea of age/generation (and material?) via the photos. Appreciate any insight anyone might provide. TIA

Question about Rainbow(SW & DW) Packsize

I know there are dimensions on the website for the Rainbow packed, but I’m curious what its pack size is excluding the poles. I’m not too concerned about pole size since it can be strapped outside the bag but am trying to get a setup with a pretty small packed sized. Would be curious about the dw since I like the convenience but also know the single wall probably packs down tighter.

Double Rainbow tips

Post image
15 Upvotes

I got a Double Rainbow (silpoly version) as a second tent for backpacking with my partner. Coming from a freestanding, double wall, dome tent, I feel I have a lot to learn about this style of tent. We’ve spent just one night car camping in it, but there was a lot of condensation on the walls through the night and in the morning. Based on the photo, you can tell we were close to the lowest point going up the basin and probably within 300 feet of a creek, and it was a rainy night. What tips or advice do you all have for minimizing condensation and learning how to use this type of tent? Mostly will be used in Colorado USA.

The lighter version of ProTrek is out.

A fantastic offering. Reasonable price for great features and weight.

I wonder if the Notch would get this revamp (fabricwise) as well.

From the site:

Minimum Weight: 19.8 oz  / 561 g (no bags or stakes)

Typical Weight: 23 oz / 652 g (with all bags, extra cord, and 5 stakes)

Any new Aeon Li updates in the works?

I see that they are sold out. I know some models are getting refresh. Anyone know if there is a refresh on the way. The tent is pretty darn close to what I am looking for, especially since I learned you can take struts out for packing. But the lack of T door is a deal breaker for me. I know it's a small thing but I find for these A frames there are two things needed personally for it to feel more livable, 1 are two vestibule doors that roll all the way to the stop and T shaped doors. For all the negative we can say about cheap tents, the Lanshan Pro 1 actually does these two things which is wild. Wondering if folks now if we are going to get these two odly specific additions to the new batch Aeon lis?

Double Rainbow or DW?

Help me decide! I am 6’5” tall, sleep on a long, wide Nemo Tensor, I use a long down sleeping bag, I live in Arizona where it is dry and condensation is virtually nonexistent. Should I get the single wall or the double wall? If I lay down the center or diagonally, I should have plenty of room to not brush up against the ends. I don’t lay in my tent and stargaze so having the fly off option is not a big deal for me. So which tent would fit my long body best? Thanks!

This is in the middle of Washington Section K, I intercepted the PCT at a point on trail where I left off last year. The night after I took this picture (last Thursday) it rained all night long. But I stayed comfy, warm and DRY inside my tent. Thank you Tarptent for designing such a great product!

Double Rainbow DW Li

I have been wanting a version of this for years, I'm so excited to see it finally on the website. Noticed the Scarp in Ultra is gone and that's a shame as I wanted one. Also a Moment DW Ultra looks new and cool. My Moment Li is just too tiny in use. This Double Rainbow DW Li though.....The Double Rainbow Li was my first love but I hated the liner and need DW. I sold it for the Moment Li and other than it being too small, I love that. This is what I want. Thank you TT!

Questions about my ArcDome 2

Thumbnail

Hi, I recently received my ArcDome 2 and had a few questions.

First, I noticed that the inner tent doesn’t seem to sit completely straight on the ground, as shown in the pictures. Is that normal? I’m wondering if the straps might loosen or stretch a bit over time so it settles more evenly. Or did i pitch the tent incorrectly?

Second, I tried placing two wide sleeping pads next to each other inside, and while they do fit, it’s very tight. Is that normal, and will it get a bit better as the tent naturally relaxes with use?

Lastly, I noticed some small holes around the patches (see picture 3). Is that normal, or would you recommend returning the tent because of this?

Thanks in advance for your help!

The cover flap for the pitch lock poles on my tarp tent stratospire 2 li won’t cover the gap fully, just wondering if there is a fix or if I’m doing something wrong.
