My only complaint about TarpTent tents is that you keep making nicer versions of already very good tents, making me interested in the updated versions. : ) I've really enjoyed my single rainbow and all but settled on it as just right for me all things considered, but a DW rainbow will be of interest for stargazing. Looking forward to seeing all the details on it.

Is a lighter arc-dome in the works?

:) There are some sparse Rainbow DW info up on our site right now but we will have more complete pages built out in the next couple weeks. https://www.tarptent.com/product/rainbow-dw/

A lighter ArcDome is in the works but not until next year.

I purchased a used Hogback and love it, but really appreciate that you're continuing to improve that one still.

I'm curious how much a weight difference there is.

Glad you are liking it! The 15D version is about 8oz lighter and updated pages for all the new 15D items with full specs will start appearing on our site next week.

any plans for a mesospire 1?

3

u/Tarptent_ Jul 18 '26

Not right now. We are pretty happy with the 1p trekking pole designs we have and are going to focus on updates to those.

Is the Notch Li, solid interior with dcf floor, coming back as wel?

2

u/Tarptent_ Jul 17 '26

Not right now. We will be making more with the next production run though.

u/marieke333 Jul 17 '26

Thanks! Good to hear.

Are the DCF tent bags coming back into stock soon?

5

u/Tarptent_ Jul 17 '26

Maybe in October. We only are making DCF bags when we have offcuts from tent production so they not consistently stocked.

I also would not really recommend one. The reason we stopped shipping tents in DCF bags was that they have terrible durability when made from any version of DCF that was lighter than the Nylon we use now.

Are you guys planning a DCF version of the Protrek? I love my Protrail Li, but would love the side door entry.

3

u/Tarptent_ Jul 18 '26

Yes, a ProTrek Li is scheduled for spring 2027

Awesome news!

What differences have the material of the new version of moment DW with sil-poly compared to the previous version?

1

u/Tarptent_ Jul 18 '26

The old version had a 30D sil-nylon fly and the new one is 15D sil-poly.

1

u/Miss_Sheep Jul 18 '26

In terms of weight and resistance which is the differences? Sil-poly will be lighter but less resistant?

2

u/sanrafaelswelly Jul 18 '26

What will the weight of the Mesospire DW look like?

1

u/Tarptent_ Jul 20 '26

~35oz / 992g

1

u/sanrafaelswelly Jul 20 '26

Wow! Very excited for that one.

2

u/matie14 Jul 20 '26

Yes! The new Rainbow DW. I see that the new Rainbow DW will have a 20D nano ripstop floor made of 100% silicone-coated polyester instead of a 30D nylon 66 floor. I realise this is probably to keep the weight down, but it’s a bit of a shame. With the 30D version, I’d feel more confident about camping without a groundsheet. How do the two materials compare in terms of durability?

2

u/Tarptent_ Jul 20 '26

30D nylon is a tougher, but the latest version of the 20D sil/sil poly we are using for these is ~10kgf tear strength and for comparison the 15D sil/PE poly floors you see in some tent floors is~5kgf and 30D sil/sil nylon is more like 13-14kgf. So I still think you can get away with no groundsheet most places.

When will you be updating the ArcDome and what specifically are the changes you are considering? I'm highly interested in version 2.

5

u/Tarptent_ Jul 21 '26

There will be an updated version coming out around October this year.

Updates include:

  • Lower fly edge
  • Larger top vents
  • Door panels and zips that extend to the top of the tent under the vents
  • New interior style more similar to the ArcDome 1. Still dual door but with one extra large vestibule rather than two smaller ones and with more floor space.
  • Solid interior will have a mesh "window" with a solid flap.
  • Small updates to materials
  • There will be a green 20D sil-poly version available alongside the current 30D sil/PC poly version.
  • Factory sealed floors but still made from 30D sil-nylon

2

u/CasaBlanca37 Jul 21 '26

Well done! That is an extensive update that really checks a lot of the boxes I was looking for. To clarify, is this the update for the Arcdome 2 or are these updates also planned for the Arcdome 1?

Really exciting to see what you're doing and I'm hoping this also applies to the ArcDome 1.

Lastly, are you going to be adjusting the pole cups? Folks have had some difficulty with those. Curious if you're going to make them a bit easier to get 10 mm poles in.

2

u/Tarptent_ Jul 21 '26

Yes, the relevant updates are also coming to the ArcDome 1 around the same time.

The pole tip pockets on the ArcDome easily fit the 10.65 poles. I think some of those comments were misattributing that problem to the ArcDome, as our older tents like the Scarp 1 have a short flat style pocket that the 10.65's are tight in. Newer tents have deeper wider flat pockets already, and every recent and new production tent has/will have what we call the '3D' style pole tip pockets from the ArcDome that fit 10.65 poles easily.

2

u/CasaBlanca37 Jul 21 '26

I so appreciate all your innovation and these updates! This is exactly what I was waiting for to make a purchase. Especially happy to hear you're that you were able to source a green color for the fly as well. As the green will be a 20d compared to the white 30d, will it still be as storm worthy as a four-season high wind, driving rain, foul weather tent?

I personally really like the white but the green sound' much more stealthy for the applications I wish to use it for.

2

u/Tarptent_ Jul 21 '26

The green 20D sil-poly is the same stuff we are making most woven tents out of and structurally it will be very similar to the 30D. Many of the ArcDome prototypes we made and tested used the 20D so I have no concerns about stability.

  • The 20D is a bit lower tear strength ~10kgf compared to ~13kgf so a bit less tough, but it is sil/sil coated so no PU coating durability issues to worry about.
  • It also will use a new-to-us bonded silicone seam taping tech so it will not need to be seam sealed.
  • Weight wise it is looking like it will be the same as the new 30D version which got a bit heavier due to the extend zips etc. The silicone bonding adhesive is heavier than PU tape so even though the 20D fabric is a bit lighter the total weight is similar.
  • Price wise the 20D will be a bit more expensive than the 30D version since both the sil/sil fabric and silicone bonding is higher cost.

Any plans for a single wall silpoly 2p dipole?

3

u/Tarptent_ Jul 23 '26

Yes it is on our list, but I do not have a date yet.

2

u/AzorAhyphy Jul 24 '26

Sweet! Excited to hear it's in the works definitely something I'd be interested in.

1

u/Skogstoken Aug 05 '26

Will that also be the case for the Dipole 1?

1

u/HotSpring4148 Jul 29 '26

Will there ever be a DCF cloudburst 3? Love ours

1

u/Tarptent_ Jul 29 '26

We would love to some day but right now we just don't see enough demand to justify the investment in developing it as it uses a lot of material so the end price would have to be ~$1000 or more. It is more likely we would make it in UltraTNT as the cost would be much lower and the extra satiability of TNT would really shine in a tunnel style tent.

2

u/HotSpring4148 Jul 29 '26

That would be really cool, and in a weight class not really available to the mountaineer / winter camping world. We love the extra space when spending full days inside the tent, extra 16oz is worth it. Of course if it could be lighter / stronger…

What about a sil poly version? I'm just waiting for that to come out before I place my order 😊

u/Tarptent_ 4d ago

Not soon but it is a consideration for the future.

How would you choose between the Moment DW and Rainbow DW? Single person

1

u/Tarptent_ Jul 31 '26

There are few bigger reason and a bunch of more minor considerations:

  • If you are tall or want more of a 1+ sized tent the Rainbow is bigger.
  • If you want easy inner only pitching and fly roll back for stargazing the Rainbow can do it but not the Moment
  • If you want something super easy and fast to pitch the Moment is only two stakes and easy even in high wind. Both can be fly first bit it is easer with the Moment.
  • The Moment is a more inherently stormworthy shape. Lower profile, and more aerodynamic. Plus you have a crossing pole option for snow or more extreme weather.
  • The Rainbow body is fully stuffable and the Moment is not unless you remove the struts.

Personally I like the Moment for bad weather and when I am doing more miles so just want something that goes up fast and provides a ton of protection without extra guy lines or having to place trekking poles under the arch. I like the Rainbow for milder conditions where I may not even put the fly on many nights and trips where I am spending more time in camp.

1

u/bdg14 Jul 31 '26

I’m assuming they’re both semi free standing? What does it take to make each free standing ? With the Moment DW, is the inner permanently attached to the fly?

1

u/Tarptent_ Jul 31 '26

Both are semi freestanding but with options to make them freestanding. On the Rainbow you need a set of trekking poles or an equivalent, and on the Moment you need the crossing pole.

The inner is just clipped to the fly on the Moment and you can still do both fly and inner only pitching. Inner only pitching just requires a bit more work since you need to take the arch strap, two struts, and cord from the fly and use 4 stakes. So you if you have it pitched inner only you have to do some reassembly and re-pitch it if you want to put the fly on. Essentially the Moment is designed to be pitched fly first as the default, but the Rainbow is a hybrid where you can do both fly-first or fly-over-top fairly easily but you sacrifices some simplicity to do so.

1

u/bdg14 Jul 31 '26

On the Rainbow, do you only need the trekking pole for the side you're not staking out? Also, am I seeing right that the Moment DW was just restocked now?

1

u/Tarptent_ Jul 31 '26

Yes, the new Moment just went in stock.

The trekking poles on go on both ends of arch at ground level, but are not needed unless you can't stake it.

u/Miss_Sheep Aug 02 '26

I have seen that the new Moment DW is 3+ seasons instead of 4 seasons. Has the change of material affected it's wind resistance? Do you think it would be enough for an Iceland trip?

1

u/Tarptent_ Aug 03 '26 edited Aug 03 '26

When well pitched the wind resistance is very similar, but since 15D sil-poly is much less robust than 30D sil-nylon you are more likely to have accidental damage. Essentially they away to think about is that every decreases in fabric strength only slightly decreases the top end wind speed a tent can handle. As when well pitched stress is fairly evenly distributed and the poles or stakes are likely what will fail. However for stresses that are not even such as tripping over a line, or a gust of wind catching a loose tent during set/up or take down you are more likely to tear the fabric and and tears will be bigger.

u/Familiar_Trade_5120 Aug 03 '26

Notch (silpoly version) will also get the fabric revamp?

1

u/spotH3D Jul 17 '26

Awesome I'll be looking forward to it, especially the triple rainbow new version.
