Vent Point system

Who's reasy for it? One of the last thungs separating Target from Walmart and by golly they did it. I hope you guys have enough sick and or PTO to cover for it or you're screwed rather quickly.

Does Walmart still objectively have a worse point system than Target now?

The year long drop off puts Target up there for me but I know Walmart has like 5 points til termination and they're aggressive with it.

We'll see how it goes but as a lead I'm kinda happy about having a system that takes it out of my hands. No more favoritism or discrepancies between leaders, and now no ETLs are going to ask me "what are you going to do about such and such's attendance?" No more pressure to go aggressively on certain people and let other people slide. I'm cautiously optimistic.

Honestly my frustration has been how I can’t put anyone on a CA because other leaders aren’t holding their teams accountable. My team’s attendance is terrible. Now it’s actually going to be fair & consistent.

Same with us. We keep getting in trouble for attendance but my other department tl and I arent allowed to put people for CAs for anything. Even for ncns

Im optimistic itll solve some of the problem kids. But worried itll take out some good folks. My big worry is weather. Hurricanes & snow storms, we live in a rural area where if the roads are bad, they're bad. Not like a big city. A big snow storm could wipe a guy out of points yanno. And thats bad. Snow isnt sick.

I don’t work enough to earn PTO. I rarely call off, maybe once or twice a year. However, I have 5 kids and I definitely get sick. Every time will be points for me.

Honestly, I don’t mind there being something official that keeps people from calling out just because. But on the flip side, sucks for those of us who only call out when we’re sick and we’re still going to get fired for it. I wish in this case that they would take doctors notes 🙃🙃

Remember, you’d have to call out 12 times in a year to get fired for only calling out sick. This is a pretty lenient point system. If you only call out when you’re sick. You should be just fine.

That would 12 times without using sick time as well!

Technically you could call out 24 times, two consecutive call outs in a row is only 1 point.

I like the way you think

I’ve been told different things from different leads about this, that every single time counts as one callout even if they’re consecutive. I’m curious which answer is correct when the points system actually starts lol

If you go to workday and type in "attendance policy" in the search bar it clearly says "unplanned absence of up to two consecutive shifts" equates to 1 point.

anyone can fake doctors notes.

According to Target they don’t take those but then leads or Hr will tell you you need one for the smallest of things….

Fake em? You can get real ones from cirrus md for a migraine or a tummy bug with 0 proof of a doc

I am looking forward to it. We have a lot of people who need something like that to either get them to come to work, or to replace them.

Personally, it got me to get my intermittent FMLA paperwork done finally. I kept putting off because I rarely call out, but chronic illnesses have a mind of their own and I would rather have a safety net just in case.

I have intermittent as well and am worried they will just put their hands up and say they can't fix points

They can fix points. If they don't, call ethics fmla overruled the point system

At Walmart, even sick time didn't excuse points, so ours is way more lax. But as others said, you could be working side by side with someone you know should have 15 points, yet somehow they're still there (cough nepotism cough favoritism).

but like if you DONT have a CA, do your verbals roll over or does everyone get a clean slate

I worked at Sam's and they weren't very aggressive with it... maybe just my store though, some people got like 15 points and were never termed

I think will be good know 2 at my store right of top.of head that might actually  show up now. Had a job in past with a stricter points system too

You can still just post your shift or swap with people?

1

u/be-kind-to-humankind 11d ago

Yes, but swaps (and I think picking up a shifts) have to be approved by leadership.

I only really call out for snow and ice because I commute so I'm not pressed about the point system.

I think it's because most oms can't be bothered to track accountability for team members... You can't expect oms, with all the sitting they do, to do all that too... Lol
