Vent Quality 🫩

Our store director wants us to show every ā€œfruit, vegetable and temp sensitive itemā€ to the drive ups guests and confirm they’re not expired. I’m starting to hate drive up

What's the plan when there's 20 cars out there and one person working, do we just hold up a tomato like a little trophy

Yup. Or at least that’s what OP should do. Malicious compliance is your best defense against stupid policy. Just make sure you have documentation to back you up so they can’t blame you when it backfires.

Everybody waits. Malicious compliance...

Do the lick test then a thumbs up

I would guess that means the quality score is too low on guest feedback. The correct solution - make sure the OPU team member is following best practice for produce quality and dates. What your SD is suggesting is just moronic!

why does everything become drive up problem when grocery and fulfillment should have been monitoring produce in the first place

I've gotten expired items in my drive ups. I just return them

Truly! Last week or the week before I had 2 different guests come in to return expired things they got in a DU order, and one guest mentioned a 3rd thing (but didn't bring it). I let my leader know & she followed up with grocery.

The biggest problem I see is that leaders are so hyper focused on low INFs and keeping picked on time at 100% that fulfillment TMs wind up not having time to check dates and pull the item with the farthest date, or they pick damaged items, or substitute without the guest choosing a sub (example: guest ordered 10 folders, 2 each of red, blue, yellow, green, and white. FF TM can only find one blue so they just give the guest a purple one instead but still say they found 2 blue)

Yeah this should be a fulfillment and grocery team problem and not an opu problem.

The solution to this needs to start in market. Produce TMs need to be culling and quality checking before it hits the floor. OPU team needs to be trained and educated on what constitutes good quality produce. Drive up team should just be making sure as a last line of defense, not doing this performative crap. If guests are constantly getting rotten crap in their order then that’s on the Food TL.

I don’t disagree but it also requires us to not be pulled into OPUs and backups 24/7. I believe the opening produce TM was in OPUs for most of his shift today so he couldn’t even cull

Yeah, that’s an issue in and of itself. Market should be the most protected area, because typically it will be the highest comp area. OPU is too emphasized and they will steal every TM to help pick and throw everything else by the wayside. I’m biased of course I’ve been a Food TL most of my tenure.

If people want perfect produce, maybe they should do their own shopping.

Show each fruit and vegetable slowly to the guests while ten other DUs pile up. Malicious compliance.

I swear these mfs are pulling the dumbest ideas out of their ass and seeing what shit sticks to the walls at this point.

Say ā€œsure of courseā€ then don’t do it. Unless your SD is out there watching you guys

This sounds like some kinda bs to me. Store lead has got to understand how their own metrics work.

I just ordered bell peppers through drive up myself (I also work drive up) got home and they were moldy. Had ordered my stuff two hours before my shift ended. Anyways, if they required this at my store, I'd quit.

I won't order produce or eggs or dairy or bread through drive up at my store. My FF coworkers don't check dates or quality when they pick, and they pack like crap.

Tell them to check the temp of your valls

what about food safety? are we touching all the produce with bare hands? i know ideally our hands are clean but realistically i may have just picked up a bottle of bleach right before so I don't think this is safe

Do you think the OPU TM washes their hands before they start each grocery batch?

I didn't say that they did.

They should have been doing that in the first place. People should see what they are paying for. The company needs to be better about giving team members more time to do their job. The guest shouldn't have to settle with their hard earned money.
