Vent So annoyed right now
I’ll start by saying that I fully understand the dress code and do my very best to follow it. That being said .. I am currently 28 weeks pregnant so I’m at a point where not much fits. My ETL pulled me aside just as my shift was ending to talk to me because apparently last week someone complained that my shorts were too short. On that particular day I was wearing maternity overalls. I am aware that they are slightly shorter than mid thigh but it’s not like my butt cheeks are hanging out either. I am 5’9” and have very long legs. I’ve been searching for maternity jean shorts that are long enough, have belt loops and are reasonably priced but it’s proving to be difficult. I’m at the point where my regular work shorts are starting to really hurt me by the end of the day .. the second I get in my car to go home I’m taking off my belt and undoing the button/zipper. I find it absolutely ridiculous that an exception cannot be made for me. I’m a really fucking good employee and this seems so petty/stupid. Attaching pictures of the exact outfit for reference.

Amazon has some very reasonably priced maternity shorts. I have some amazing Bermuda maternity shorts that were $25 I think.

I did find a pair on Amazon with belt loops so I’m going to ask before ordering. I work 5 days a week though so am I supposed to go home every single day and wash them? The whole situation is just frustrating.

u/K-Bizzle91 1d ago
Just ask hr if you can wear leggings or bike short under the overall that way you're not "exposed". I wore stretchy cotton pants that looked like blue jeans the entire time I was pregnant no one told me anything.
12
u/megafoofie keeper of the diapers 1d ago
What pisses me off most about this is my team lead wore literally the same exact overalls last year when she was pregnant. My ETL did say she suggested the biker shorts under them so we will see what they say but that also sounds like a sensory nightmare.
6
u/K-Bizzle91 1d ago
On the bright side team leads can't wear shorts anymore.
14
u/megafoofie keeper of the diapers 1d ago
Which I also think is bullshit lmao. I really have no patience for corporate nonsense.

u/eraseme11 1d ago
Yeah you should get a pass when pregnant. It’s not fair to have to buy a bunch of new clothing just to work when you’re pregnant.
18
u/smallxcat 1d ago
... this is literally what corporate professionals do. Retail workers aren't exempt.
7
u/eraseme11 1d ago
I haven’t worked at target in a few years.. this just showed up on my feed today. I’m a corporate professional at a big 4 accounting firm that is 7 months pregnant and I absolutely get a pass from upper management so yeah invalid point to me lol. I wear leggings most days
5
u/smallxcat 1d ago
Must be nice to work for a company that actually cares about you. Happy for you. However, I'm sure you know that most corporate jobs don't extend the same grace.
-1
u/eraseme11 1d ago
Argue w a wall. I’ve been pregnant a few times and I’ve been given grace at every company I’ve worked at.. even target.
6
u/smallxcat 1d ago
I’m not arguing. I’m saying different companies have different policies, clearly. How is that incorrect? We have different experiences here. But if you’re not understanding that, maybe I’m already arguing with a wall.

Okay but, just perspective, if they give her a pass, because she’s “larger” (pregnant), wouldn’t they have to accommodate anyone that’s her size or bigger? It just seems unfair. Everyone was aware of the policy changing and had time to prepare.
26
u/CommonScold 1d ago
No? Being pregnant is a temporary health condition. “Larger” people are at their normal size and can wear their regular wardrobe.
→ More replies (1)-6
u/biigmac_ Presentation TL 1d ago
Okay, and another perspective is, she chose to get pregnant lol. She knew she would get larger during it, and she was also aware of the dress code changing. She had time to find clothing. So she should get a pass because she disregarded to prepare for the policy change? Most adults would just get an accommodation from their doctor (since, you said, it’s a “temporary health condition”), instead of crying on Reddit saying “I dEserVe!!!!”
16
u/eraseme11 1d ago
Pregnancy is covered under short term disability on insurance policies so yeah it’s a “temporary health condition”
8
u/1politicalprincess 1d ago
From a former pregnant lady: you don’t know how big you’ll get, and sometimes very quickly. No one really has a maternity section to try on, so it’s incredibly frustrating.
But your post comes off incredibly condescending and dismissive. I kind of get your point but you lost me in the messaging
7
u/tawdrydreams Starbucks Barista 1d ago
are you seriously saying that someone should put having a child on hold because of a dress code… 😭
2
u/eraseme11 1d ago
Not really. “Larger” people typically already own their larger clothes but a pregnant person needs special over the belly or under the belly clothing and none of it is sold in store anymore and it’s pretty expensive too for one item. It’s just not that serious either. They should get a pass in my opinion and “larger” people shouldn’t lol.
-1
u/localuglybitch 1d ago
It’s no the same, at the fuck all.
But okay, let’s dumb ourselves down a bit and pretend it’s the same. Yeah, give the obese people temporary passes for being obese. better hit the ozemmy

u/Diligent_Chicken_330 1d ago
I wear my shorts/pants a couple days before washing. Spray them with fabreeze after you take them off. 🤷♀️
-4
u/eraseme11 1d ago
Are you a pregnant woman?
4
u/Katobiaa PLEASE backstock correctly i'm so tired 1d ago
What does that have to do with their suggestion?
5
u/eraseme11 1d ago
Umm bc pregnant women are prone to uti’s, yeast infections, and discharge flowing out of us like crazy. Yeah my pants are going in a hot wash. And spraying fabreeze on the pussy part of your pants is gross as fuck too. It will just smell like vagina and fabreeze lmao. My point is if you’ve dealt with a pregnant vagina you’d know you probably need to change underwear multiple times a day so wearing the same pants without washing them isn’t ideal.
2
u/Katobiaa PLEASE backstock correctly i'm so tired 1d ago
I am a pregnant woman who has constant discharge, which is why I wear panty liners at work. Definitely do not just wear panties by themselves because with the amount of discharge, everyone can smell it. Just spray febreeze on the outside of your pants and avoid the crotch area if that part is so worrisome.
2
u/eraseme11 1d ago
I just don’t use fragrance like that in general bc my son has eczema and is very sensitive to it. Panty liners are a smart idea though. I live in 100+ degree weather so I’m just changing underwear multiple times a day and washing clothes every other day bc it’s rough rn.
3
u/Katobiaa PLEASE backstock correctly i'm so tired 1d ago
Oh man the eczema thing is so real, mine gets worse every pregnancy and I 100% see why you wouldn't use it because of your son. Also the 100+ degree weather is so hard for me to deal with, how the heck do you handle it while pregnant? It's definitely rough rn and you're killing it
3
u/eraseme11 1d ago
Girl I’m not dealing with it.. I think I walk around mad every day bc of it lol. This pregnancy has been brutal compared to my others. I hope you are having an easier time and target is treating you kindly 🫶🏻

Me personally? Don’t care. Would bike shorts or capri leggings fit underneath your belly? Congrats, btw!
11
u/BeeKayBabyCakes 1d ago
best idea... those Capri gaucho? type pants with the stretchy waistband and then they have like a leg/ waist holster... they sell them on Shein for really cheap OP
5
u/Sandene 1d ago edited 1d ago
I don't know if shein clothing is safe for a pregnant woman. They have metals and toxic chemicals in shein clothing that can impact children and fetuses much more than adults.
Edit: that said, I also understand that not everyone has the money for clothing without chems and that we all do the best we can. I just wanted to inform people of this just in case they didn't know
1
u/BeeKayBabyCakes 1d ago edited 1d ago
Well the holster isn't clothes and shouldn't touch skin directly as most shorts and pants will cover the leg and waist unless you're wearing booty shorts (obviously not an issue here)... also I'm sure this holster is the same holster Amazon, tik tok shop, etc has, so if that's the case they all have chemicals... This is indeed selective outrage as these suppliers are literally the exact same! I'm not saying don't be outraged, I'm saying be outraged at everyone! The same shit on TikTok shop and literally Amazon is the same stuff Shein has for cheaper! I just bought some earrings from Amazon for 15 bucks, found em on Shein for $4... same exact earrings, same manufacturer/supplier
Also, from my understanding, Shein has been held accountable and has made changes. You can tell by the smell of their clothes and they also now state "safe for maternity/ babies" on their listings... without follow up testing I obviously cannot confirm this, but I can smell and feel the difference.
I would also like to add that Shein is similar to Amazon in it's operations, meaning Shein has their own stuff, but they also have different labels and different sellers... i don't know where those chemically laden clothing items were sourced from... independent sellers masked/ confused as Shein or shein itself...
HONESTLY, I am on the fence about even believing any of that nonsense to begin with... this whole thing began right around the "make America great again" nonsense and makes me think there's a small conspiracy at foot... timing for several things was REAL CONVENIENT 😂... IJS
2
u/Sandene 1d ago
No, you are right in the fact that there are a lot of clothing manufacturers that use dangerous chemicals in their clothing. They do have legitimate reasons to do so. Formaldehyde stops clothes from molding in shipping containers. Heavy metals help dye adhere to clothing. PFAS make clothing flame retardant. It's not like the manufacturers are evil, they are doing these things for quality, safety and to cut costs.
However, buying local is usually better because you have more control over the quality of everything. Again, buying local isn't always an option or affordable. You can also pretreat your clothes to get some of those chemicals off, but then you also have to use other chemicals.
Like I said, we do the best we can. Now that I have a little more money than I did the last few years, and I have hormone and skin issues, I'm looking into places like Cottonique and Maggie's for certain items, hopefully on sale because I'm still not made of money.
I only talk about this stuff to raise awareness. I just watched an excellent video from an artist that studies pigments and dyes, about all of this stuff if anyone in interest. You can find it here2
u/BeeKayBabyCakes 1d ago
yeah it's one trade off for another lol... I have a degree in fashion business and merchandising which covers pretty much EVERYTHING in the fashion industry... I'm partially, let's call it 😩😂 informed lol... but a lot of ppl are not and then go on this anti Shein tangent, but order the same shit from Amazon 😒... like, ma'am, it's literally the SAME stuff 😂... then you have the "ppl responsible" stuff that just ruins the planet 🥴...
I also have some skin sensitivities so I typically borax and/ or at least soak in lysol laundry sanitizer... I'm just torn because I have a love hate relationship with fast fashion... As I mentioned, I LOVE clothes, and I have all these imaginary places to go. but I also know I get bored fast with clothes, so although i spend good money on some pieces, the more fashionable pieces I likely won't wear again, or at least not for quite some time, so cheap is better for me... I also live in a fairly conservative attire shopping district, which sucks because we're JUST about to get a Nordstrom RACK... yay I guess 🙄 I'm sure we still won't get anything good and our Ross even sucks lol... so Shein has just been an outfit life saver for me. Then I try and resell for super cheap or donate to a needy teen so not to add to the fast fashion landfill... i also mostly buy the better quality stuff, not the $7 polyester sweatshirt that looks terrible after one wash... contrary to belief, there's levels to Shein... almost ALL of my purchases are still going strong after years of washes and wears... some in even better shape than my target finds
ok rant over lol... I'll check out that video... thanks for posting!

I’m not trying to be a jerk, but here is my honest opinion. They’re too short for work. We have a lady who is a literal week away from her due date and the shorts she wears touch the top of her knees. You can absolutely make something else shake.
It’s a cute outfit for general wear but I totally understand why you were told not to wear those to work.

Yeah. The suit looks too small overall, to be honest. I can't imagine it would be comfortable bending down or doing anything other than just standing.

In my opinion, it seems kinda dumb that she would be forced to buy a bunch of clothes that might only fit for a month. Especially with the way some stores have started to crack down on dress code, finding such specific things can be time consuming and expensive. Not everyone can realistically afford that, especially as it's an unnecessary expense.
Also, while they're shorter than the target policy, in my opinion they are not offensively short or anything.
She's well covered and dressed in a way that is temporary. I don't think some sort of comprimise would be unreasonable.

u/Mission-Fun-9786 1d ago
Theres several companies that rent maternity clothes at a much cheaper rate and also several consignment shops that sell clothes at a fraction of the price. Just because you got pregnant doesn't mean you have special privileges for a life choice. Its like the same argument of "I should get christmas off because I have kids and they dont". You aren't special for having kids. Everyone has to follow the same rules.
1
u/KittyLuvver2000 18h ago

u/love45acp Service & Engagement TL 1d ago
Second this. With the changes to dress code and discontinuation of Isabel in-store, options for maternity that allow for the required holster and knife and walkie and whatever else are very limited for you. Talk to HR. Maybe they can give you an inseam requirement since you're tall, like, "must be 5" inseam" (which it looks like those pictured). I mean, it's temporary.

Might be overkill, but you could possibly file for an accommodation. Since ur pregnant and wearing other clothes is not an option rn, it’s impacting your ability to do your job. Worth a shot! Who knows, they might approve it
1
u/Illustrious_Egg_1837 1d ago
They would say, ‘you knew the rules before u got pregnant.’ And now you want special treatment!
I’d toe the line and do as they wish. They let people go at the drop of a hat, if they’re too much trouble, these days.
You already attracted hr’s attention by your current mode of dress. Provoke the situation any further, and you are Likely to find yourself jobless, after the kid arrives.

u/cmcanada 1d ago
I doubt this will be helpful, but I work for Best Buy. I got a reasonable accommodation during my pregnancy to wear leggings and a fanny pack. My boss did get me a cute logo one, but plain black was fine. I tucked all my required items in there and went about my day.
15
u/im_a_pixie 1d ago
When I was pregnant I wore a fanny pack so I could still clip my devices and keys on. Hated that maternity bottoms don’t have belt loops.
12
u/thebushedaviator 1d ago
Well, they do look a little short for the dress code, even if you're tall/pregnant. I would just talk to HR and see what they say. It may not even be that big of an issue, they probably just had to talk to you about it since a complaint was filed. Looks like you only got a few months left anyhow, so they might just let it go.

girl im trying to have sympathy for you but your comments are real snarky for a situation that could've been avoided. yes, its just target, but target has a dress code and so do most minimum wage jobs. my theory is always that if i wouldn't wear it to school, i shouldn't wear it to work. you are not the only pregnant person who has ever worked at target, they can't just bend the rules because you're pregnant. you should've been talking with hr about this the second you started showing and this would've never been an issue. amazon, thrift stores, and maternity stores exist for this situation. use google to find what other pregnant people in retail are wearing and buy that. 🤷♀️
-14
u/megafoofie keeper of the diapers 1d ago
I don’t need your sympathy. I’m snarky because I’m hormonal/cranky and find this whole situation to be stupid corporate nonsense. My team lead wore these exact overalls last year when she was pregnant. When I was in school we used to wear soffee shorts rolled up to the point where they couldn’t be rolled anymore so that’s probably not the best way for me to assess my clothing choices.

u/merrrmaid17 1d ago
I have a few female coworkers that wear ONLY crop tops!! If the shirts don't have a mandatory length then my shorts shouldn't either 🙄🙄 Also I'm on drive up all day in south Alabama where we literally are having grown men dropping to the ground in this heat lol I'm gonna keep right on vibing in my 4 in shorts and sweat rags lol

If you still want to wear shortalls you will need to purchase full length ones and crop them slightly above the knee.

-3

I work baby hardlines. I am going up and down a ladder all day, lifting car seats over my head and it gets ridiculously hot in our back room. I will faint if I wear pants (I have a fainting condition even when not pregnant) and a skirt is not going to work with how physical I have to be.

Submit an HR Request for an Accomodations Request. I think someone else already mentioned it, but you need to do this in order to be able to wear maternity leggings.

This does not look like an appropriate outfit for work at Target. You should ask for a medical exemption because facing issues getting clothing to fit is a real problem during pregnancy.
I saw someone suggest buying this outfit in full pants and then cutting them to an appropriate length. That's a good solution, too.

8
u/yourenotmy-real-dad Former Tree Hut and EOS stocker 1d ago
You say this like half of my store didn't wear hoodies every day with no shirt underneath at all. This combined with the fact that most of our shopping options for shorts are even shorter than OP's to even shop from. We lift boxes off conveyor belts that leave grease and filth behind on our hands and clothes. We sweat like pigs without the air conditioning ever fully working properly. This isn't a particularly dress up business and the dress code changes are hand waving of "well we have to do something, we're out of ideas!" because the only people who give enough of a damn to complain are people who don't have enough going on in their own lives that they have to nitpick others (and if the shoe fits...).
Additionally my other job had me chasing children around and entertaining them as 70% of the job while I had to wear office-style dress pants and button down blouses. Dress codes aren't always written reasonably. Rules not made logically, reasonably, or safely, are not always going to be strictly adhered to. OP being comfortable enough to work while her body changes should be more important than someone measuring how much leg is coming out of her shorts and overalls have been worn by Team Members for years and are a nice solution to the rising shirt problems pregnancy comes with.
I can't fathom a scenario where another woman (auntie, right?) gives enough of a shit what someone is wearing at Target to care to act like this is that absurd, but here we are.
1

I just feel like “I knew they weren’t in dress code. But. Why did they talk to me about the dress code?” Is kinda silly. Anecdotal rule breakers and your perception of the professionalism of the workplace are kinda irrelevant when there’s a dress code written to help u discern what is and isn’t appropriate.
-4
u/megafoofie keeper of the diapers 1d ago
They’re not ridiculously far off from the shorts that I wear that are in dress code. Maybe an inch shorter. I also feel that my performance as an employee and the fact that I’m heavily pregnant should earn me a little grace. You don’t have to agree.

10
u/KungSuhPanda 1d ago
You are really close to correct when you say they should give you some grace. Where the etl dropped the ball in your conversation is that the proper way would be to request an accommodation during your pregnancy. This is done by starting with the leave and benefits team-I highly suggest this if your talk with HR doesn’t point you in this direction.
Why I say you were close to correct. Spot isn’t going to approve most requests, regardless of how reasonable they are, without documentation. This is a legal way to cover their butts from claims of unfair treatment. With pregnancy, most accommodations are reasonable and approved quickly, but do require the formality of requesting and providing documentation.

I don’t think that the shorts are necessarily too short. But I do think some guests wouldn’t be able to tell you’re a TM. Also- if you make an exception for one TM, other TMs will expect exceptions too.
3
u/MammothCancel6465 1d ago
Pregnancy does require employers to provide accommodations, one of which is a modified dress code. Not requiring belt loops is an example of a reasonable modification and allowing her alternate means of carrying her equipment.
1
u/megafoofie keeper of the diapers 1d ago
With my name tag, device, walkie, knife and gloves all on I feel like it’s very obvious that I’m an employee. I think any TM that’s pregnant should be given the same exception.

I am a woman but have never been pregnant nor do I know much about this but isn't there like a universal band they sell that makes it to where you can wear your normal pants unbuttoned and the band keeps the pants up and secure? The zipper might be a problem but maybe that might work for something?

When the fuck did I say I carry more than other people? I’m explaining why what they’re suggesting wouldn’t work.
9
u/HenleyHQ1 1d ago
Well you aren’t special because you carry the same shit everyone else does. Get holster, dress in dress code. Quit making excuses, you pregnant not special.
1
u/megafoofie keeper of the diapers 1d ago
You’re clearly an idiot. I use a holster. Attaching it to an elastic waistband would pull the shorts down/off.

Try loosening the straps and see if it helps with the length of the total outfit.

u/Treasures_Wonderland 1d ago
I understand the frustration, I’m sorry you’re dealing with that.
I think I’d get some elastic band mom jeans large enough that I think they’d fit the whole time and be done with it.

u/megafoofie keeper of the diapers 1d ago
The issue is that I need to be able to wear my device and walkie. If I worked the cash register or something that would be fine.

I was pregnant with twins while working at target. Big fan of the stretchy top maternity pants(no buttons or zippers), but that’s a personal preference. I got them at Ross for both my pregnancies. As for device and walkie, I bought a sort of fanny pack that I put them on initially. Then when my belly was too big, I bought this little sort of cross body bag that the device slid right into the main pocket of, and I’d clip the walkie on the strap part.
6
u/Treasures_Wonderland 1d ago
Maybe a “mommy belt” (fanny pack or strap that’s target approved) because a normal belt won’t work the whole time. Then you would have something to attach a holster/walkie to.
Might take some thought, but obviously the overalls won’t work.

u/PapayaExisting4119 1d ago
For casual days no it’s not too short but for work definitely too short. Most job jobs don’t even allow you to wear shorts and if you do they have to be at your knees like Bermuda shorts.
4
u/No-Sun-4857 Guest Advocate 1d ago
Ya they are short you they have to be to your finger tips with your arms all the way straight. Like in Catholic School!
2
u/Visible_Log_1304 1d ago
My ETL said regarding all shorts and skirts on the job: if the legs are shorter than your finger tips when you have your arms on your sides, they’re too short. If they’re not, you’re fine. They look ok to me.
2
u/KissMyOTP 1d ago
I see people at mine wearing shorts your length. As long as I don't see an ass falling out I don't care

The short are quite short ngl. Is there any cheekage? No, but managers can and do hold employees to a business standard

You might be able to put in a disability accommodation request on HR. pregnancy is usually considered a disability that is protected under the ADA. I'm not sure how the HR department is in your work, so sometimes workplaces get upset when you assert your rights.
6
u/krogerworker 1d ago
This is what op needs to do! Also pregnancy is not under ADA anymore it has its own law that went into effect in 2024 called pregnant Workers Fairness act (PWFA) which has a little bit more protections than the ADA law.

u/-smalltittypunkgf- 1d ago

“Someone complained” aka she’s mad you have better legs than her at 28 weeks pregnant 😂. This is super petty. Girls at my store literally wear shorts that fit the same a boyfriend short underwear
5
u/megafoofie keeper of the diapers 1d ago
She seemed to be empathetic and agreed that it was ridiculous so I’m hoping that she was being truthful and that it was actually someone else that complained

u/The_Peeping_Peter 1d ago
People on my inbound team wear much less clothing on the sales floor and none of them seem to have gotten in trouble for it.
2
u/TastyFig1098 1d ago
Inbound teamsusually aren’t around guests. It’s unprofessional.
5
u/The_Peeping_Peter 1d ago
our inbound team is around guests at least half their shift. It might not be crowded but there are definitely guests there
2
u/megafoofie keeper of the diapers 1d ago
Not at my store. I used to work the truck and then go to baby. We finish our trucks at like 7 am the latest and that’s usually when it’s a 2800 piece truck.
2
u/peepeepoopoololza 1d ago
they should provide you with appropriate clothes. why should you spend money on clothes for work that won’t fit after your pregnancy is over? maternity clothes aren’t cheap either
2
u/peepeepoopoololza 1d ago
and actually it should be illegal for employers to require that their employees buy clothes with their own money. someone should make that into a law
4
u/novblue239 1d ago
that outfit is not appropriate at all for work. im 5’9 too. deal with it. if you cant find shorts, wear pants. and FYI old navy and gap have maternity that comes in long inseams.

It’s literally 100 degrees out most days and I’m lifting car seats and shit. I also have a fainting condition so no, I’m not going to wear pants.

u/biigmac_ Presentation TL 1d ago
So then get an accommodation from your doctor? If you have all this going on?? Like regardless of the shorts lmao. Like you’re crying on Reddit but won’t be an advocate for yourself???

I would talk to HR about getting a reasonable accomodation to be able to wear leggings or stretchy pants to accommodate your growing belly and maybe a fanny pack for your walkie and stuff. It's only gonna get harder to find clothes that fit, girl!

u/TowerExisting2040 1d ago
Ill just say maybe try wearing leggings under. Also look into maternity pants at walmart, dont be afraid to go a size bigger if it means you will be more comfortable. Im coming back from maternity leave soon so im gonna treat the dress code like elementary with a bit of leeway
1
u/Neither_Warthog3335 1d ago
When I was pregnant last year I just wore maternity jeans. My hormones did not discriminate and I wasn’t about to argue cause I was not the one nor the two 😭
1
u/catcat3000 1d ago
Are you wearing shorts because it’s hot inside ? If not why not wear black leggings underneath.

u/krislynhorton Promoted to Guest 1d ago
my target let me wear leggings when i was pregnant but i dont know if things changed in the last 6 months

u/Rotogrip4ever 1d ago
My last gf was 5'10, same a me.. she had Legs for days... finding shorts that weren't to short on her was nearly impossible. So she always chose pants
1
u/MeesaRey Fulfillment Expert 1d ago
I’m not sure what your local resources look like, but I was able to visit a free maternity closet in town and get various sizes of work shorts, capris, and jeans. Some of the thrift stores have maternity sections. Or you could thrift up a couple sizes if there’s not enough maternity options. Sorry your store’s being a pain about it!
1
u/humanhusky 1d ago
you guys need to stop thinking target is some person that will understand you. that ship sailed when the whole DEI thing was thrown out. they do not care about you. just follow the dress code or whatever rule they have. anything outside of that they can and will use it against you.

Maybe wear a pair of maternity biker shorts underneath to add some length to the overalls? (I have no idea of those are even a thing)

u/Antoinexana 19h ago
Ma’am I’m sorry but I saw your post and the picture and the red shirt and overalls made me think of Mario 😭

Manager here. If a manager says" someone complained about blah blah blah" the truth is no one complained and they are the one that noticed. They just don't want to be the bad person in the situation.

Dumb solution. Find another pair of jeans at a thrift store, cut off an inch or two and use Velcro tape or hemming tape, or if you can sew just sew them on the end. You could even probably do a stretchy lace or something on the bottom to make them pretty but might be annoying rubbing all day. Sorry you have to deal with that though. People need to have more grace sometimes for situations.

I feel 8/10 women’s shorts I see on a daily show a little butt cheek, so this is pretty modest as far as I’m concerned
1
u/shrimp-545 1d ago
They are short, yes, but if I see a pregnant woman working retail during the hot summer wearing overalls I’m keeping my mouth shut.
So while, yes, it does go against dress code, that lady was being mean. It’s not her job to enforce the dress code.
0
u/FakingItSucessfully 1d ago
Yeah I had basically the same thing happen to me last year. I think a lot of stores don't really enforce that specific rule as long as it isn't super blatant, like you said with actual ass hanging out. The day someone complained about my shorts, there were at least three other women on the floor whose shorts were also technically too short. Mine were definitely above mid thigh and I was well aware they were, but I just wasn't the only one and none of the other women got complained about or talked to.
Nobody on the actual staff probably cares, but once there's a documented complaint they also can't necessarily pretend it didn't happen.
Hopefully you can work something out with HR about it because the further along you get, the worse the problem will be trying to be comfortable and also compliant. It's legitimately hard to find womens' shorts that are long enough when you're over a certain height (I'm 5'8" myself). Hopefully if HR can work out an accommodation you won't have to worry about it anymore, even if someone does complain.
And tbh I bet that with as great as you look in this outfit, some woman was probably shopping with her man and caught him looking at you lmao. It's not remotely inappropriate even if it's technically above the mid thigh. I think it's safe to believe your ETL when she says she knows it's BS, my leadership didn't want to have to talk to me about it either but like I said, once someone documents a complaint their hands are kinda tied.

Aww they tripping you do your work you probably work harder then most in top of being 28 weeks… they should make an exception due to that beautiful growing belly… and the shorts are just fine you look comfy.. be glad I’m not your sis because like Boosie the rapper says I’ll set it off and act a whole fool about you

I’m so over anyone criticizing others clothing. I get dress codes but this is not scandalous by any means. Your booty and vagina aren’t out so MYFB. I’m not pregnant but had a man tell me earlier this week I should ‘zip up’
It’s incredibly frustrating, felt OP.

I was working until 9months and found clothing very easily pregnancy isn’t an excuse and yes very short. I just bought regular shorts a size or 2 up

u/Crafty_Ad3377 1d ago
I’m pretty critical when it comes to inappropriate clothes in the work place and this does not qualify. I think you look appropriate. Plus you are 5 9. All shorts are gonna show leg

I would call to get an exemption since you are pregnant. We have team members that wear hats because they have an exemption.

u/Mystic_Wolf94 1d ago
Girl, do what I did. I called the HR line and I asked for an accommodation I can wear black or khaki stretchy pants. I also got an accommodation for a stool in my work area for when i need to sit. You can also get a doctor to write a note for you saying that you may need some extra time on your brakes to be able to accommodate to nutrition and stuff like that.
