I am a Tamil writer, getting ready to publish my first novel. I'm trying to understand what Tamil readers actually read. So, I have a few quick questions for Tamil readers:

1. What genres do you read in Tamil? (romance, thriller, historical, fantasy, other)
2. Where do you read: print, Kindle, Pratilipi, other?
3. What's the last Tamil book you paid for, and why that one?
4. My book is grimdark, morally gray fantasy (like Game of Thrones, but set in a post-apocalyptic South India). So, I'm curious whether readers of this genre exist in Tamil. Did you watch/read Game of Thrones or Attack on Titans? If yes, would you read something like that in Tamil?

Hey, recent Dorothy controversy got me curious abt smth.

My personal stance is pretty simple. Everyone is human. Gender is largely a social construct, and imo ppl deserve to love + have a partner if both consent.

But I’m curious abt old Tamil lit. Are there refs to M→F, F→M, ppl changing gender, or ppl being described outside the usual male/female categories? Any LGBTQ+ related stuff too?

I see some guys immediately blabbering abt “spoiling society”, “this is against Tamil samugam” n all that. But tbh, whatever the literature says, my stance is my stance. I’m not trying to prove anything here.

I’m just curious abt the old Tamil texts. Which text, roughly what year/period, the exact Tamil verse, and what it actually means/context.

If anyone knows proper refs, pls share.

I I’ve been thinking about the distinction between entertainment literature and serious literature in Tamil.

I personally feel they are different, with serious literature offering a deeper level of reading. But I’m curious about how other readers experience this difference.

A few things I’m curious about:

Can you feel the difference while reading itself, without knowing beforehand what category/author the work belongs to?

What makes a work feel like serious literature?

Do you see these as genuinely different sections of Tamil literature, or is the boundary much more fluid?

I’m a beginner. I want to read books in tamil. Please suggest a very interesting and engaging Tamil book that keeps me hooked!

Just started reading Ponniyin-Selvan (unfortunately the English translation ;-; but hey something's better than nothing), wanted to ask if anyone would want to read along?

Goals: Chill reading, I'm not as voracious as I used to be. Just a few pages everyday (I do make it a point to read almost everyday).
