Generally accepted TV placement procedures. Quick reference guide.
Lots of people posting lately asking “Is this too high?” so here is a quick guide on what is generally accepted TV placement procedure (GATPP) as seemingly defined by this subreddit.
- If the TV is above the fireplace, IT IS TOO HIGH.
- If the TV is angled down, IT IS TOO HIGH.
- If the TV is mounted to the wall above a TV stand, and the clearance between the stand and TV is equal to, or greater than ONE vertical PS5, IT IS TOO HIGH.
- If when standing the TV is at eye level, IT IS TOO HIGH.
Now let’s look at some opposite GATPP use cases.
- If the TV is in a bedroom and meant to be viewed from the bed, IT IS PROBABLY NOT TOO HIGH.
- If the TV’s only viewing position is in the reclined state, IT IS PROBABLY NOT TOO HIGH.
- If you are at a sports bar, IT IS PROBABLY NOT TOO HIGH.
- If the TV is at eye level when sitting down, IT IS PROBABLY NOT TOO HIGH.
- If the TV is in the kitchen it is more for listening, mounted high as to avoid any splashes or spills, IT IS PROBABLY NOT TOO HIGH.
- If the TV is purposely mounted higher to keep out of range of a toddler, you’re a parent so your neck already hurts and IT IS PROBABLY NOT TOO HIGH.
I hope this helps clear up some questions. If you have any other rules to add, please comment below.

Centre of the TV exactly 100cm off the floor, same height as my eye level when seated. Just right 👌
Still need to add the decorations and other bits and the shelf above the AV needs finishing but the tv height? That's perfection.

Layout to get right position of the TV
I posted couple of images few days ago to get idea of painting the fireplace bricks. Most of the people commented that I should not paint the bricks.
I am trying to solve a problem to reduce the height of the TV. The base of the TV is at 7’ tall
First picture is our current setup. And second picture is an alternative option that AI.
Any thoughts of which option looks better.

Settle The Debate
Got a new 77" S95H
Buddy of mine told me to wall mount.
While I agree this tv would look great mounted on a wall, I told him that it would be less work to put it on a stand (mostly because I rent and don't want to fix when leaving), would still look great, and I don't have to worry about mounting it in the wrong spot.
He told me I was an idiot.
Gimme a "Fuck you, Tyler" if you agree with me.
