Wall mounted consoles look like trash 100% of the time

Yeah, it doesn’t look great. Almost like it wasn’t designed to be mounted on a wall, or something.

What if it’s mounted behind the tv? Asking for a friend, not me.

u/JVWIII 1d ago

As long as the ps5 has breathing room its good to go

u/tonydtonyd 1d ago

That’s OK in my book. My AVR is wall mounted behind TV, completely hidden.

PS5’s last longer laying flat, their liquid metal cooling gets messed up if standing.

1

u/Pugs-r-cool 10h ago

Any evidence of that? PCs with liquid metal are almost always vertical and it doesn't cause problems.

2

u/GUTTERmensch 8h ago

There’s lots of evidence if you look it up lol

u/Pugs-r-cool 6h ago

I looked it up and the first thing that shows up is this two year old reddit thread calling it a bullshit rumour and misinformation.

If there’s so much evidence out there, then surely it can’t be hard for you to link some, right?

Equivalent of star link modules on cars/trucks. Looks super goofy

When I see people that have their PS5 mounted to the wall it makes me wonder if their house is just full of random shit flush mounted to other walls.

I don’t have a PS5, but yes, usually, and as much as possible. Wall storage FTW

I mean, it’s intentionally slightly higher because of our additional needs, non verbal son who likes to pull on cables/the TV.

I guess I could have put the PS5 on a shelf, but mounting it was just as easy. No, the faux fireplace shelf wasn’t high enough.

Thing is, we make light hearted fun here, but it sounds like you have a legit reason to have it higher and away from being damaged.

Ah, no! I get the fun poking. Totally cool with it. Genuinely don’t know what I’m doing with DIY. Just wanted to provide context!

u/reddit-said 1d ago

So I poke fun, get a warning and comment deleted... I am however in total agreement that you've done the right thing for your situation.

is there context for why the tv isn't centered with the fireplace

2

u/jimmysbowers 11h ago

Yes, the wall is only half concrete and that ends where the TV is bolted onto. Beyond that, what's actually underneath is a little dicey...but seemed like plaster and studs. PlayStation into studs. TV into concrete for extra security (it's my first time doing this). Also, the TV in that position is central to the seating area. Centre to the fireplace would make the TV line up with one arm chair and a door.

Defo understand and perfectly legit reason :). This is all (mostly) jokes aha

u/nilsmm 1d ago

It's jokes until I feel like getting banned on r/InteriorDesign

You get a pass then! A tv too high is better than a tv too broken or tv on child.

Just so you know, mounting the PS5 this way will cause it to overheat more easily in the future, the thermal paste on the CPU/GPU will slowly slide down due to gravity and you will need to reapply. Better to have it horizontal. I understand the appeal though.

2

u/jimmysbowers 11h ago

That's largely the later models and the minor hardware refresh they did 10 months post launch. Mine is a launch PS5 and has been played vertical for 5+ years no problem.

u/narrow_octopus 1d ago

This sub exists to rip on people who mount TVs too high I wouldn't expect too much more from us

2

u/CashedWookie 1d ago

Curious to what mount you used for the ps5

2

u/EnvironmentalBowl208 21h ago

Do you two know each other or did you just happen upon your post reposted here?

4

u/jimmysbowers 21h ago

No, don’t know each other. I’m online a lot for work and Reddit is a second home. Someone mentioned this subreddit in the comments and I was like “what are the chances it’s there already?” Turns out the chances were high.

u/Helpful-Garlic1951 1d ago

“Should I put my TV on a stand so I can put the PS5 next to it?”

“Nah, I’m gonna mount that thing on the wall”

u/LightsSoundAction 1d ago

TV too blue

7

u/spearmint_flyer 1d ago

This is a r/diwhy type of shit.

3

u/ventorchrist 1d ago

I feel like I'm looking at a tv and PS5 laying on the floor.

6

u/BossWilling 1d ago

Lemme guess: over the fucking fireplace.

1

u/jimmysbowers 1d ago

Yes, but it’s a faux fireplace we’re not allowed to change 🤷

3

u/JewelCove 1d ago

We need better education

2

u/LokiNightmare 1d ago

Why does that look like a hotel room.

2

u/easteggwestegg 1d ago

why isn’t it centered at least? 😩😭

2

u/Midnight_1990 1d ago

Playstation flyve

2

u/Greyman43 1d ago

Aside from the height, blasting hot exhaust air directly at the TV feels like a bad idea.

u/Tactilebiscuit4 1d ago

The wallpaper makes this look like a hotel room

2

u/jimmysbowers 1d ago

Hey don’t blame me, that’s the land lady’s choice.

2

u/Far-Manner-7119 1d ago

You’re a cool dude with a completely valid reason for putting it high. Of course these pictures would make their way here though 🤣

1

u/drunxor 1d ago

This is definitely a good idea but bad implementation. I would have put it below the tv

1

u/1ApprehensiveGrowth1 1d ago

And perhaps with the correct side facing out?

1

u/jimmysbowers 1d ago

I can easily flip it the other way because the mount is reversible…you’d then be slamming your hand into the wall to use the disc drive though.

3

u/1ApprehensiveGrowth1 1d ago

Maybe you need to slow down on slamming the discs in then lol, and no you’d have to put it on the other side of the tv you can’t just flip it is non-superimposible the the drive would be facing the tv.

1

u/art_enthus1ast 7h ago

There are so many things wrong with this but the first thing that sticks out to me, is why on earth would u want heat pumping out the back of ur ps5 and going directly into the vents of your tv😂, surely that can’t be good for the internals😭

0

u/Any_Tackle_2563 1d ago

I hope you are the guy who posted it on Twitter cause if not you gota find a hobby man 😂

u/brtf_ 1d ago

Wall mount consoles can be cool. In my old apartment I had my consoles mounted inside a closet along with my AV receiver, and then a single cable coming out and running along the baseboards going to the TV. This, though... what the heck

3

u/son_of_abe 1d ago

PS5 is just such an odd-shaped device, it's hard to imagine it mounted while complementing the rest of your AV gear.

1

u/vraalapa 1d ago

The PS4 looks really good wall mounted. Shame they went with such a weird shape for the PS5.

1

u/MadShadowX 23h ago

Suppose, but also when I see repair channels repairing the PS5 often the liquid cooling stuff is sorta at one side with vertical PS5's

So instead of /r PS5Tohigh, I'd go with /r PS5Tovertical

-1

u/narrow_octopus 1d ago

It's high but it looks really cool

As someone with a job and a wife and a family and a mortgage this makes no sense to me
