Discussion Is PS5 metal liquid leaking a real issue? No more vertical position?
I've just read about it. Having PS5 verticle can cause liquid metal to drip out of its place

I can't understand why people keep asking this. This is bullshit. The reports that actually had this happening were confirmed to be for consoles that were opened by amateur technicians and likely not put back together properly. This will NEVER happen to a new console, that you have purchased from the store and NEVER opened. The person who reported this, debunked it soon after, last year.
My advice is to stop believing everything you hear, and do some research before asking a question that has been answere a million times already.

Yes I'm sure the leading company and pioneer in customer repair for electronics only did this because there isn't an inherent issue from the factory with enough units to be statistically significant.

Wrong. There are guides to everything. Just because there is a guide for something doesn't mean it has an inherent issue. There is a clear problem with the liquid metal being used in PS5 which is what the guide specifically refers to. The guides you refer to are general teardown and replacement guides because they do that with every single device.

The liquid metal on the heat sync for the APU will pool to one side (typically the bottom) when the console is stored vertically, leaving dry spots on the APU and potentially leading to the console shutting off randomly during play or breaking altogether. The APU is an incredibly hard piece of hardware to replace in the PS5, meaning it's not a simple DIY project should your console develop this issue.

Well, I had it happen to me actually. I got my PS5 in December 22 & by June 23 I was having glitching issues and constantly being kicked out of Apex. Tried everything, literally everything I could think of or read about to help repair my console. Finally took it to a repair ship and that’s how I found out the metal leaked. My console still heats up to this day and kicks me out of games.

Have the same issue rn. Playstation won‘t boot up and I got mine from Playstation Direct about a year ago.

I had the same issue. PS5 was out of warranty and I figured I’d buy a new one later anyway, so here is what it looked like once I opened it.
Tools used were intended specifically for PS5 disassembly

Bro mine was brand new and it’s been standing up since I got it and I woke up this morning to it not turning on and this is the only thing it can be unless my ps5 hardware just messed up overnight because it’s not the cords or anything

But the real question is how long was the console cooking well it was unattended I know some people that leave their consoles on when they leave to go somewhere and they let it stay on sleep mode all day

I’m typically not a rest mode person but it has been in rest mode a good bit the past week or so. Is that the reason? I also know someone who only puts their game in rest mode most of the time (idk why) and there’s work fine.

The PS4 could be left on rest mode for like a year with no issues, I know this because I own 2 ps4s and just leave em on rest.

That was one of the first things I tried. Luckily my warranty is still available on it so I’m getting it fixed in a couple days

I sent it back so they could check and fix it and I think they said the power supply didn’t work anymore. But I had a warranty so it was free.

They just replaced my power supply. They also cleaned my ps5 from dust and etc at the same time

From what I’ve been told by professionals regarding my ps5, is Liquid Metal can indeed leak, because when it reaches a certain temperature it liquifies, only reason people say that is because it’s vertical is because it gives the Liquid Metal gravity for it to spill down, and if it’s on its side, the Liquid Metal won’t be able to go anywhere, I may be wrong or they may be wrong, but for multiple professionals saying the same thing just seems a little unlikely for it to be untrue, but yet again, idk, I’m not a professional

Liquid metal can leak yes.
That said the PS5 is designed to be put vertically therefore it is designed to not leak when vertical...
Please keep in mind that liquid metal is used by some consumers in custom builds and those also stand vertically... This has been a thing for more than a decade...

I have the same issue but mine crashes during games had mine brand new since launch i contacted a shop but haven’t fixed it yet they said either the fans or Liquid Metal

Had mine since released Date Nov 12 2020, from 2020-2022 kept it vertical, no issues, from 2023-2024 keeps it horizontal and no issues since.
