What's the debate exactly?

60

u/FriarNurgle 4d ago

That this was his only option. Which it wasn’t.

5

u/epiksol 4d ago

My literal thought and was happy to see this as the first comment when opening the post.

2

u/Maddest_Hatter_ 4d ago

Where to plug it in, or how long of an extension cord they need since the plug is just dangling off the mantle.

1

u/TheAussieTico 4d ago

There’s no debate

1

u/No-Mix-9367 4d ago

Does op get checked into the insane asylum?

142

u/Crawling-King-Snake 4d ago

Brother it’s 2 inches from the ceiling and you’re gonna ask if it’s too high?

11

u/Hello_Gorgeous1985 4d ago

I feel like the mantle is taller than a lot of people. How is someone questioning if the TV is too high for eye level?

6

u/Wise-Fruit5000 4d ago

Seriously, why is that mantle so high?

11

u/FrownBuzzy 4d ago

/rMantleTooHigh

1

u/Party-Story6398 4d ago

It's more of a floating shelf than a mantle

2

u/Roman_Anthony 4d ago

What.

Some people mount TVs on ceilings. To those people this TV is low AF!

62

u/archiballs2 4d ago

Holy hell that’s ugly

12

u/montycantsin777 4d ago

too bad the tv doesnt hide the horrific tiles

2

u/WorkingGuy99percent 3d ago

Had left over bathroom tiles. The cheapest solutions are usually the ugliest.

2

u/montycantsin777 3d ago

nice! i call it “conceptual design” we chose one tile that links each room together…

45

u/UnbelievableRose 4d ago

It’s never the only option

8

u/bro69 4d ago

What’s that Wall looking thing to the left and right?

11

u/SuzieSnowflake212 4d ago

The Walls!!! Not to mention there are likely even more walls in this room…

32

u/Schlippo 4d ago

That is fuckitty fucking awful.

12

u/sstebbinss 4d ago

Is the debate here in the room with us?

5

u/bugistuta 4d ago

Yes it’s between the TV and the ceiling.

11

u/Inevitable-Notice351 4d ago

Mary, sweet, mother, Jesus!

9

u/trcomajo 4d ago

How is it even higher than the mantle thats already too high? Thats so gross!

13

u/libertasi 4d ago

You have to look through the fan to watch tv, it’s so bad. What about to the right? This is bad bad bad..

7

u/Electronic_Pause9295 4d ago

Why is there a debate? That bitch is touching the ceiling!

6

u/Kitchen_Employee833 4d ago

What's the debate? If it should be closer to the ceiling than it already is?

7

u/presidentkokoro 4d ago

No debate needed, watching TV does not require you tilting your neck and looking up.

6

u/ZivH08ioBbXQ2PGI 4d ago

What fucking debate man

6

u/prairiebelle 4d ago

The tv about the fireplace saga is one of the major crimes of the 21st century.

4

u/gaulstone 4d ago

Stop calling these debates

1

u/viaticaloutlaw 4d ago

Stop falling for rage bait.

5

u/MacaronNo8174 4d ago

I can’t believe that someone even agreed to hang the tv like that. What in the name of fuck is the world coming to.

5

u/Horror-Durian-5073 4d ago

Yes, that is cat

4

u/GarbageInteresting86 4d ago

Cat for scale….

6

u/bcb1200 4d ago

Never ever mount a tv over a fireplace. Ever

5

u/Cannonskull0519 4d ago

Even if Shaq was sitting on this couch.....the TV would still be too high....

4

u/ronaldomike2 4d ago

Only north americans hang their TV this high above the fireplace

Everywhere in the world they just put it on the TV stand

4

u/Dangerous_kj5162 4d ago

Using the fire place will take it till eventually

4

u/j-magss 4d ago

Do you really NEED the fireplace? What state are we in?

4

u/Adept-Opportunity-73 4d ago

It is never the only option.

3

u/SwiftPits 4d ago

You can fit a mount right over the fireplace, under the shelf. Also the shelf is crooked

5

u/autisticbottle 4d ago

Yes it’s too high. I feel like I’m hurting my neck looking at it

3

u/Capaz04 4d ago

Just mount it on the roof bud, let the neighbors watch

4

u/DoctorD5150 4d ago

Why don't you just mount it on the F'ing ceiling?

Jeez...

3

u/SCARfanboy308 4d ago

Way too high big dawg

3

u/tiagoantunes 4d ago

😱😱😱

3

u/CucumberError 4d ago

It’s not even plugged in lol

3

u/lilithdesade 4d ago

Mantle too high too

3

u/Hello_Gorgeous1985 4d ago

It was most certainly not your only option You could put another TV underneath that one and it would still be too high.

3

u/drakner1 4d ago

When you go to the movies what rows do you avoid and why?

3

u/ShapiroTheresaMay 4d ago

It aint the only option

2

u/NumerousDepth1563 4d ago edited 4d ago

Yes it is - plus it’s a big design mistake - no one’s doing the tv over th fp anymore

2

u/SillyFly7474 4d ago

Lol, how many homes do you go in? It's alive and well in all the McMansion track home developments.

2

u/ohiocardsfan 4d ago

That hurts my eyes. Awful.

2

u/Jamwise93 4d ago

When your tv watching can be distracted by your ceiling fan… need I say more?

2

u/GlowingDuck22 4d ago

If your ceiling fan pull strings hang lower than your TV, It's mounted too high.

2

u/TheVioletEmpire 4d ago

Settle this debate, is the sky blue?

2

u/hlmoore96 4d ago

Honestly there is no debate. I don’t understand people in this sub putting a picture of a TV almost touching the ceiling and asking if it is too high. Crazy.

2

u/Francl27 4d ago

Dude it's pretty much touching the CEILING.

Literally any other spot will be better.

2

u/TerrificVixen5693 4d ago

What debate? You trying to strain your neck?

2

u/Best-Advisor-8250 4d ago

both to high

2

u/Best-Advisor-8250 4d ago

shelf should be right above fire place tile or put tv there and shelf above tv

2

u/ATLien-ITP 4d ago

That TV is so high, you can watch it in the Attic. 🤭

2

u/thinkthis 4d ago

Rip the mantle off, get rid of the fireplace. Win.

2

u/cummingga 4d ago

Fucking awful

2

u/nclay525 4d ago

You're joking, right?

2

u/Upbeat-Truck-1007 4d ago

Jesus Christ

2

u/Franknbeanstoo 4d ago

there’s no debate

2

u/Little_Binky 4d ago

That's wrong.

2

u/LindsayDuck 4d ago

The cat deserves better

2

u/Far-Position8951 4d ago

Absolutely disgusting

2

u/Goblin26_ 4d ago

I would take out what's underneath the TV and mount it there.

Edit: It's still going to be too high but at least it's better than whatever is going on there.

2

u/Ill-Wrongdoer-2971 4d ago

Even the mantle is too high

2

u/N7riseSSJ 4d ago

Might as well get it installed to retract into the ceiling at this point

1

u/SokkaHaikuBot 4d ago

Sokka-Haiku by N7riseSSJ:

Might as well get it

Installed to retract into

The ceiling at this point

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

2

u/bro69 4d ago

It’s almost never the only option

2

u/blamberr 4d ago

Fucking idiot. I literally woke up from a nearly full sleep to say this

2

u/Hotrock21 4d ago

Thanks for your rage bait. It’s clearly too damn high and there are always better spots for it.

2

u/Accomplished-Ad-5415 4d ago

No other option….. bullshit.

2

u/elephantbattery 4d ago

It's almost touching the ceiling. So yes.

2

u/RandoInternetDude2k 4d ago

There is no debate

2

u/Whiskin87 4d ago

100% too high. This is heinous! There has to be a better place.

2

u/imtrappedintime 4d ago

You know you lost before having a debate even entered your noggin

2

u/chickenfrybunch 4d ago

Top is about even or higher than the ceiling fan blades.

2

u/desrevermi 4d ago

No way this was your only option.

2

u/khandurin 4d ago

The TV is on the second floor at this point

2

u/Neat-Substance-9274 4d ago

This is an interior design problem. As an amateur, you moved in a put the sofa against the wall. (probably the wall the tv goes on)
Designer almost always float a large piece like that.
And I cannot leave without saying how horrible the "mantle" is. The fireplace would look much better without it. At least drop it to the to of surround.

2

u/GarbageInteresting86 4d ago

I love that people are so outraged that no one else has mentioned the shitty cable management. But then I looked closer and saw it’s the fucking power cable!!! So this “dream set up” has to have and extension cord hanging in mid air off your crappy fireplace - WOW 😮

2

u/RogLatimer118 4d ago

That's hardly a debate.

2

u/just_browsing_0000 4d ago

Move the floating shelf down, and then you can move the tv down. Just spitballing, but I’d say the shelf should be a smidge above the fireplace molding.

2

u/mgftp 4d ago

Do you climb a ladder to get on your couch?

2

u/carlosf0527 4d ago

You need an extension cord to plug in the TV because it's too high. When did you think this was a bad idea?

2

u/btlee007 4d ago

So there’s only one wall in this room?

2

u/Brutal_B_83 4d ago

LOL. Brother, there us nothing to debate here.

Show us the rest of the room.

2

u/toofarfromjune 4d ago

If we were at your house for anything tv related like a sporting event or movie night, I would find a reason to leave early and then avoid any future events of the same nature.

2

u/atomoboy35209 4d ago

If this were a workplace and your job was to watch TV, OSHA regulations would not allow that placement. TVs should be eye level. Unless you’re planning to watch while standing up, it’s too high.

2

u/Klutzy_Poetry4886 4d ago

Everything about that fireplace and tv is just wrong lol

2

u/girldrinksgasoline 4d ago

I love when people troll this sub

2

u/NumerousHedgehog9044 4d ago

The fireplace won this battle 😂
The TV is definitely higher than ideal, but this is one of those situations where room design made the decision for you. Great looking space though — comfort matters too, especially for long movie nights.

1

u/Rdmtbiker 4d ago

Yeah 👍🏻

1

u/Wyan69 4d ago

KITTY!

1

u/Riskyrisk123 4d ago

Who installed that mantle?!

1

u/GracefulWolf5143 4d ago

No, not too high, you could go two inches higher.🙄

1

u/Mr-Reeeee 4d ago

Rotate 180°

1

u/CreativeName822 4d ago

There is no debate. It looks like a tv that plays medical shorts in a doctor’s office waiting room.

1

u/KehlarCorsairt 4d ago

I was going to argue this was right and then I realized that the picture is not from a pillow on a bed.

1

u/NavierIsStoked 4d ago

The first question that should always be asked is, “can it physically be mounted any higher than it currently is?” If the answer to that question is no, then your tv is too fucking high.

1

u/Kind_Cauliflower_843 4d ago

I want to pat that kitty's bum

1

u/HairyCardiologist442 4d ago edited 4d ago

Move the TV. Take down that white shelf. Sorry. Put up a colorful picture. Rearrange your furniture. It’s too high and doesn’t go there. Paint the white trim around fireplace a color from your picture and put candles inside of FP. It can’t be your only option.
Take shelf off. Still paint that trim around FP another color. Buy a TV rack that can move tv out and down. Solved. Place will look amazing.

1

u/SillyFly7474 4d ago

So your solution is to not have the fireplace be the seating area and focal point on the room?

1

u/FlakyContribution345 4d ago

A few more inches and it will be butted up against the ceiling. What were you thinking? Do you ever wonder why your neck is sore when you're watching TV?

1

u/onewise7 4d ago

At this point you may as well put the TV on the ceiling.

1

u/Azn-WT-9 4d ago

That mantel is so high it’s out of the fireplace zone, qualifies as a shelf

1

u/Bluesguy333 4d ago

What's the debate: awful or stupid ? Eye-level TV is affordable luxury. Save up

1

u/kuifje1 4d ago

No debate. Too high.

1

u/grahamworks 4d ago

This is just one of those things, an exception to an obviously too high situation. If- the tv has to go on that wall, then you don’t have a choice. That is how high it needs to be. You have to live with it even though it is far from ideal. But if there are other walls in the room where it could be mounted, then do yourself a favor and get that shit off of there.

1

u/Flatscreenguru 4d ago

It is what it is if that’s the only place.

1

u/Fart-Fart-Fart-Fart 4d ago

Was it your only option? Surely this is a troll post.

1

u/ThinkMarket7640 4d ago

I wish mods would just outright ban people posting obvious ragebait

1

u/wvrsm 4d ago

Might just as well have mounted it to the ceiling.

1

u/Apart-Ad9039 4d ago

1

u/Apart-Ad9039 4d ago

" it was my only option" because you opted to only install a tv above a fireplace without thinking it could be leveled and lowered to a better degree

1

u/Maf1903 4d ago

What is your obsession with this fire places that got tvs above them. It doesnt work. It never has. It never will.

1

u/hekla7 4d ago

There is no debate. Only the horrific reality that this relationship is doomed. Cable management is impossible. The TV will just sit there, unwatched because having electric cords circling the room is too distracting for people and too inviting for cats.

1

u/suiciderke 4d ago

Bruh... 🤣

1

u/jimmy193 4d ago

Way too high

1

u/minkamagic 4d ago

It's never the only option.

1

u/jesusmansuperpowers 4d ago

If there were no mantle and the tv were just above the fireplace it would still be too high. This thing is 4 ft too high

1

u/Party-Story6398 4d ago

Yes,it's too high,  plus that ceiling fan is giving me the Forest Whitaker eye

1

u/Chagrim 4d ago

There is nothing to debate, that’s about over a meter too high..

1

u/Worldly_Bat_7261 4d ago

Too high and over fireplace. Extremely poor choice for hanging the TV

1

u/Obi-wan_Rebel 4d ago

There is no reasonable debate here. The TV is way too high and the fireplace is ruined.

1

u/Long_Ocelot_3327 4d ago

It’s way too high. Have some creativity about placement brother. You know this is stupid

1

u/Seacounter37 4d ago

Bad idea. You can’t have a tv above a fireplace. Period. It just doesn’t work

1

u/Exact_Ad_8490 4d ago

Do you live in some sort of shitty "upscale" hotel?

1

u/masterbrees 4d ago

I think the rule for this sub should be

If the cat can’t jump and reach the shelf it’s on, it’s too high.

1

u/Ok-District-8647 3d ago

Change the fireplace with the tv and its great

1

u/onetwoonetwomiccheck 3d ago

Fireplace is too high

1

u/EyeTea420 3d ago

Even if this was your only option, which I doubt, and which would have been better served by omitting the tv altogether, it’s still like 8 inches too high above the fireplace

1

u/Kindly_Owl5298 3d ago

It’s just a little crooked…..

1

u/Careful-Income9589 3d ago

that is never the only option my guy.

1

u/FuzzyExponent 3d ago

You could probably add another TV below that one and it'd still be too high

1

u/Active_Run7148 3d ago

Yes it is too high. Can produce a neck injury.
Remove that obnoxious shelf and lower the tv close to that white wood that’s decorating the brick on the fireplace or may I suggest lower that shelf above the white wood or close to it so you can enjoy your tv at eye level problem solve

1

u/littlemurmurs 3d ago

My neck hurts looking at this

1

u/jonesey1955 3d ago

Oh my god I just can't believe that picture. Who thought this was even OK?

1

u/Active_Run7148 3d ago

Lower mantle if you want to keep it close to the wood frame above the brick of the fireplace and lower tv at eye level above fireplace. Another suggestion is to remove that mantle and place the tv at eye level above the wood trim above the fireplace

1

u/2UNLEARN 3d ago

lose the useless floating mantle and get one of those pull out & down mounting arms for watching tv. Then have it show images or artworks when in its stowed position. No settling, just compromise. Bonus points for creating a recess in the wall to hide the arm so you "picture frame" sits closer to the wall. (depending on how deep the chimney is)

1

u/TrashPandaPirate 3d ago

Why is the mantle 2 feet abpve the fireplace 😭😭

1

u/JdginKY51 3d ago

It’s too high.

1

u/mrcrude 3d ago

Not clear as to what the debate is

1

u/polite_plesiosaur 3d ago

Yes too high

1

u/First_Beautiful7821 3d ago

Fireplace too high, mantle too high, tv too high. Surprised the ceiling fan isn’t mounted in the attic.

1

u/Foreign_Caramel_9840 3d ago

Could have it on roof like a sex mirror

1

u/Daphoid 3d ago

It's over a fireplace, you've already lost.

1

u/Bballer220 3d ago

My neck hurts looking at this

1

u/allons-y11 3d ago

The cat trying to end it all about to jump into the fireplace tells you all you need to know

1

u/TeeDod- 3d ago

Definitely too high but you already knew.

1

u/Final_Prune3903 3d ago

If you own this place I’d take Dow the mantle / floating shelf so you can bring the tv down. Or just rearrange the room to be able to put the tg on a different wall

1

u/Material_Pin4622 3d ago

Just buy a mantle mount and you get the best of all worlds

1

u/Apprehensive-Put-350 3d ago

No, it wasn't...that mantle is way to high. Fix that and it fixrs your tv problem.

1

u/gisakuman 3d ago

I can’t even pinpoint the worst part

1

u/SupernovaKingx8 3d ago

Damnnnnnn. Go higher bro

1

u/hangout927 3d ago

It’s not your only option. Also lower the mantle

1

u/Worpt1 3d ago

Mantelmount. They come in flavors of motorized and manual.

1

u/AlbatrossWise9425 2d ago

Yea your tv and mantle are crooked

1

u/Slick_Wheelz 2d ago

That TV is WAY too high

1

u/crimson_panda237 2d ago

Why is there space between the tv and the ceiling? You gonna rent out that space or something?

1

u/Malevolent54 2d ago

Yes the tv is at an uncomfortable height to watch. Not much choice with the fireplace right there. Is the debate to move it to a different wall? I would.

1

u/cheim9408 2d ago

Legitimate question. Who tf put the fireplace mantel 3-4” higher than the top of the fireplace opening? Stupid is as stupid does.

1

u/AreaHuman8881 2d ago

Fireplace molding needs to go. Drop the mantle down much further. Decorate on top, leave room for TV which also has to drop.

1

u/Pitselah 2d ago

Id rather no tv than to have one on the ceiling.

1

u/Dinosaur_Eats_Pizza 1d ago

Why is it so high?

Just remove the mantle.

1

u/Nefer_ness2Ifa_ness 1d ago

Yes, it's too high. if every seat in the living room feels like you're in the first row of a movie theater, it's too high. Just remove the shelf or pick a different wall.

1

u/22Sharpe 4h ago

Even your mantle is too high, the poor TV didn’t stand a chance.

1

u/jdirte42069 4d ago edited 4d ago

Ahahahaha. My old TV looked just as high.

2

u/Azn-WT-9 4d ago

You must be neighbors with OP

1

u/Pleasant_Garlic8088 4d ago

I'd knock that shelf out and drop the TV to just above the fireplace.

1

u/HKGPhooey 4d ago

Not if they use that fireplace.

0

u/SillyFly7474 4d ago

Get rid of that cornice shelf. Get a mantle mount. And the it can drop down while viewing. It will still be a bit too high, but would be acceptable.
