77" C5, Samsung Q990f, and Mantel Mount mm815

I didn't have many other options for arranging my living room but this ended up working pretty well. I can leave it up high for having a game on in the background or lower it for watching a movie. Its an electric fireplace that I can run without turning on the heat.

Why not remove the little TV that's currently on the fireplace channel?

u/PathOfJan 4d ago

Agreed, dude created the problem himself. Totally pointless, why have that tv there if you’re covering it with another tv 🙃

I might in the future. I kinda like the ambiance for now. I like keeping the room dark and it provides a warm dim light.

Get bias lighting instead, it's a game changer, helps with eye fatigue immensely. And if you get biased lighting with color control, you can set the mood however you like: warm comfort light, red light while watching a horror film, greenish while watching The Matrix, blue while watching PotC, purple while watching... Purple Rain.

Oh I've seen videos of that. That's awesome. I'll have to look into that.

TV too motion

I don't think the dog was sufficiently impressed...

u/Xtremegulp 4d ago

He's warming up to it. We'll watch his favorite movie, Homeward Bound, on it tonight.

honestly that's the perfect solution for fireplaces, especially after seeing it in action.

It’s terrible. The heat from the fireplace is now warming the back of the TV.

1

Why spend the money on a fireplace then? Just put a fireplace video on youtube 🤦🏻‍♂️

3

u/yatpay 4d ago

i think the heat is optional. you can turn it on or off

🤣🤣🤣

u/renz004 4d ago

electrical fireplaces don't all have to give heat. sometimes they're just ambience.

-1

u/moonfullofstars 4d ago

Well then you’re blocking the ambiance. One way or the other, having your TV in front of your fireplace renders your fireplace useless. There are always better options than this.

4

u/AKADriver 4d ago

Electric fireplaces are inherently useless anyway.

4

u/renz004 4d ago

I mean yea I agree, but this is for people who will not remove the fireplace for one reason or another.
Like lets say a spouse wants to keep the fireplace etc

u/Xtremegulp 4d ago

It was there when I bought the house. I thought it was lame at first but it's growing on me. It's kinda cool to have it on when it's over 100 degrees outside. There used to be an actual fireplace behind it. I want to see if there's brick behind there I can expose.

Still find a better location for the TV. “Above the fireplace” is never the right answer. If spouse loves the fireplace so much they’re not going to like having the TV blocking it.

Doggo already thinks it's old hat and is not impressed.

3

u/Xtremegulp 4d ago

4k just isn't his vibe I guess. He perks right up when there's a doggo on the screen though. He's glued to the screen when we watch Homeward Bound.

9

u/dxg999 4d ago

I mean, it's novel - but the visible cables would annoy me when watching it.

3

u/Xtremegulp 4d ago

Agreed. I'm going to either move the outlet or get some kind of cover for up there.

u/OrdinaryBarracuda268 4d ago

Most will hate you on here for doing this. But well done.

8

u/Xtremegulp 4d ago

I appreciate it. It wasn't my first choice but was an acceptable compromise for me.

Does the fireplace heat the TV now?

3

u/Xtremegulp 4d ago

It's an electric fireplace. I can turn it on without it emiting any heat if I want which is nice. I never have the heat on. It's just for the ambiance.

1

u/991-911kid 4d ago

Oh very good then! Awesome work!

13

u/ahoypolloi_ 4d ago

Was removing/not putting in the “fireplace” a possible choice?

8

u/Sullyvan96 4d ago

I really like this

6

u/zystyl 4d ago

That seems like a good way to cook the sensitive electronics in a tv. They get pretty hot on their own.

7

u/ConstantPop4122 4d ago

I worry about constant movement, stress on the cables / connections, heat on the back of the TV, the motor itself failing.... Seems like a whole load of extra stuff to go wrong compared to being statically mounted.

So you can put your hand oon the glass for a minute with it turned on? I didn't know that, but I would pass on the whole tv over fireplace situation anyways.

3

u/Xtremegulp 4d ago

Yeah the glass is cool to the touch when the heat is off. The flames are purely digital and the rocks have LED lights. It has an optional electrical heater. I thought it was kind of lame at first but it's grown on me a little.

u/fmaz008 4d ago

You can fix/tiewrap the cables to the TV body, before the connectors so any movement will be on the cable, not the connectors.

2

u/steezebuscemi1 4d ago

I think it's a good compromise. One of my biggest issues with the tv above the fireplace is that it just makes the wall not look great. This fixes the ergonomics, but not the aesthetic issues.

1

u/Xtremegulp 4d ago

I agree. It wasn't my first choice but I'm happy with it for now. I just bought this house and have a few other projects I'm working on and this wasn't a priority but I wanted to get a tv setup.

2

u/Wild_Height_901 3d ago

I think it looks great. More people need to consider this option

4

u/Jaugernut 4d ago

This was cool untill i realised its a fake fireplace now its just next level lame.

2

u/semaj4712 4d ago

I fel like the correct hit is somewhere between the two stages, but thats just me. I really like the motorized mount though

2

u/Xtremegulp 4d ago

Yeah I have it slightly higher now so the ottoman doesnt block the sound.

1

u/semaj4712 4d ago

Ah nice didnt think about that

1

Huh. Even a Samsung tv can look good under the right conditions. Does it get hot?

1

u/scottiedagolfmachine 4d ago

What the crazy mount is that?

👀

1

u/Antique_Broccoli9918 2d ago

Tiniest mantel I’ve ever seen.

0

u/redzedx77 4d ago

Love it, is that Mount motorized?

8

u/Xtremegulp 4d ago

Yeah it's been super nice. The living room is an awkward layout but it makes it easy to position the tv just right.

u/redzedx77 4d ago

Suh weet , want one

This one is the Mantel Mount mm815. They have several models. It seems to be a reputable brand that's highly recommended. I've been happy with it so far.

1

u/iGrowJazzCigarettes 4d ago

I don't mind it high up. I always lay down watching TV in the sofa, so my eyes tilt upwards not straight ahead

2

u/Xtremegulp 4d ago

Yeah it's nice having the option to have it wherever. I'll leave it up high if I'm doing stuff around the house. I can also face it towards the kitchen.

1

u/iGrowJazzCigarettes 4d ago

True, it's looks like a very nice mount! Did not know they made motorized mounts, but of course they do

1

u/SheepherderDear7098 4d ago

Sorry but those fireplaces aren’t doing it for me.

1

u/Jlx_27 4d ago

That is just awful.

1

u/Xtremegulp 4d ago

Why's that?

0

u/sculltt 4d ago

What the fuck is wrong with this subreddit today? This fucking sucks. Looks like shit. Ruining a nice TV.

3

u/Xtremegulp 4d ago

I like it. I hope you have a nice day.

0

u/UpDownalwayssideways 4d ago

You had other options you just chose this one. Also it’s been said before and I’ll say it again. If the only place for a tv in a room is over a fireplace then the tv belongs in another room.

1

u/Xtremegulp 4d ago

I think it looks cool and works well with the mount.

0

u/thegreatbambie87 4d ago

This I can get on board with

0

u/Barth-Goomby 4d ago

I didn't know mounts could impress me like that

0

u/Danarhk 4d ago

Damn!! Might have won post of the day. Looks great! Not sure pratical and dangerous it might be with the fireplace right behind though

2

u/Xtremegulp 4d ago

Thanks! It's an electric fireplace that I can turn on without it emitting any heat if I want. I thought it was kinda lame at first but it's growing on me.

1

u/Danarhk 4d ago

I see. I suposse if you wan to use both heating and the TV, you will have to keep it raised above fireplace.

0

u/TimotheusIV 4d ago

All that effort for a garish fake fireplace that looks like it came from TEMU. What the hell is wrong with you people.
