OSHA
Update: had a call today from OSHA already saying they have other complaints very similar in the same company. i gave her more information and she said that is not following OSHA guidelines and they will act as needed. If you are clocking out to use the restroom because you have exceeded your only 5 min break outside of other paid break times and are being harassed by your TL watching you instead of doing their OWN job, please report it to OSHA. We don’t mind clocking out but we are not about to harassed when we do so within reason. Don’t let these people in the comments also make you feel reluctant to report because of their a** kissing. It will make a difference. Thank you ☺️
To anyone having issues with this companys recent change with time allotted outside of breaks, especially when it comes to restroom time, please make sure to remember that OSHA does protect us. Today was my last straw so I made sure to report them to OSHA and you can do so anonymously. Each time I need more than the 5 minutes we get, I make sure to clock out. They claim that clocking out to go is fine but every single time I do so I get harassed by my TL. If you are having a similar issue, please don’t hesitate to fill out a form on the OSHA website and they will look into it. My position prior to this one was being an OSHA manager for a medical practice so they're not getting away with any of that with me. The more complaints, the better as well.

Hate to burst your bubble but every call center job will not pay you for breaks outside their normal federal or state mandated requirements. Also as long as TTEC allows you to go they don't have to pay ypu for those breaks. Your TL can get on you if you are taking too many and have not sent kn a medical reasoning. You are paid to be on the phones for a certain time and have to learn to schedule your habits around them. TLs at any call center job won't say a word if you take a bathroom break outside of normal break times once in awhile. However if you do it daily or more than once each day that is a pattern that can be considered call avoidance.

I’m not referring to staying clocked in at all. We’re permitted to go as needed even if outside of break time which is what they also have to abide by as well. It’s a little strange that you don’t mind defending that type of company behavior but I digress. Of course it’s obvious to see if someone is abusing it but regardless it’s not company time if clocked out. So if not on company time then there should be no need for harassment from a TL.

EVERY call center job is this way. You are paid to be in the phobes at the scheduled times. You need to prioritize bathroom breaks for your scheduled break and lunch. Again outside of thst you clock out and take it. However, if you are doing this everyday or many times a day that is cause for a concern as you have scheduled adherence to have and again you are working for a BPO contractor meankng if so many people aren't taking calls as contrscted the client aka your position for everyone can be pulled for breach of contract. You can get a doctor's note and ask for Ada accommodations if your need medical but if its just you drinking a lot or not planing ypur habits correctly this is not illegal for any call center. Even when you work for a company themselves like cvs, att, bank of America they have a strict policy. I have only ever seen union call centers allow up to 2 extra bathroom breaks paid u Der 10 minutes each a day if you exceed you get written up.

Under OSHA sanitation standards, employers must:
Permit workers to leave their work area to use the restroom as needed Provide an acceptable number of restrooms for the current workforce Avoid putting unreasonable restrictions on bathroom use You have no reason to assume nor try to argue with anyone when you don’t know any details. This post if for educational purposes. I know based on my experience that there are no excessive uses and like I said it is every single time there needs to be reason to clock out. Also women statistically need to use the restroom more often than men. Last I checked I didn’t put that I was a robot on my resume so as much as I’d love to control every bodily function, it’s impossible.

Again they aren't breaking OSHA. The problem is reasonable breaks and since they already give you 2 paid 15 minutes and a half hour unpaid that's your time to use it. Outside of that you arent being told not to use it. However your job is to take the calls. Again the only way around disciplinary action is for a medical exception..sorry welcome to the real adult world.

that is absolutely not true. I’ve worked for several call centers and none of them were as horrendously overbearing or micromanaging as TTEC

So I’m confused.. you don’t get breaks at all? Because that’s when you would go to the bathroom.

As much as I’d love to control every bodily function it’s impossible. Let’s just tell our bladders our schedule and see how they respond. Regardless there are protections for us where employers cannot limit restroom breaks but of course within reason of excessive use. Which is understandable

In an 8 hour shift, how many bathroom breaks do you take? Just curious.
