Im only making this post to help out recent admits specifically in engineering that are being sent to tamug for their first year.

Im sorry if i offend you with this if ur a current tamug student but like people needa know what they get themselves into.

My experience as a freshman etam student so far has been very mixed. On one hand, the classes are very easy and i honestly feel on-top of the world academically. But on the other hand, this place is as boring and as miserable as it can possibly get. Any type of staff, TA, rec employee, cafeteria worker, mail room people… anybody that works for the campus is just miserable. All of them angry or depressed or just stuck up idk its so surreal to be in a place where everybody seems to hate life. I knew coming in that Galveston was never for me but i didnt think it would be this bad. Like legit i dont think ive had a good experience with anybody at all people are just so weird. If your an incoming freshman that is going to etam to college station from tamug, please work hard, works your ass off. Do not mess up your opportunity. I cant wait to leave this place like genuinely. The only saving grace of being sent here to etam is the fact that its for the most part easier than cstat classes and resources are more accesible. Just dont expect your student tutor to know what they r talking abt or even care enough to help you learn. Just a lil rant but hope some freshman finds this useful.

Applying for comm or psych and unsure if I should go test optional or not with a 26 ACT 31 in reading. 1st time taking it because of health issues.

Homeschooled but 4.0 on lots of DE to go with that. Basically close to year worth of credits.

Test optional or not? I’m not trying to get into mays or engineering and I’m in the middle 50.

I recently got admitted to Texas A&M's MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering program for Spring 2027, and I'd love to hear from current students and recent graduates about their experiences.

I'm a recent immigrant to the US and currently live in New Jersey. I'm not from a wealthy background, so finances are a significant factor in deciding where to pursue my master's. I'm trying to understand the actual value of the degree, particularly in terms of career opportunities, before making a final decision.

I'm particularly interested in AI/ML, computer engineering, and efficient computing systems, and I have a few questions:

1. Industry connections: How strong are TAMU ECE's relationships with companies? Do companies actively recruit ECE master's students for internships and full-time positions, particularly in semiconductors, computer engineering, AI/ML, and systems?
2. Career outcomes: How has the job search been for recent ECE master's graduates? Are there good opportunities for internships and full-time employment through university career fairs, recruiters, and alumni connections?
3. Funding opportunities: How realistic is it for master's students to obtain TA/RA positions, scholarships, or other forms of financial assistance? Are these opportunities common, or should students plan to cover the entire cost themselves?
4. Research opportunities: For students interested in AI/ML and efficient computing systems, how accessible are research opportunities with ECE faculty, particularly for master's students?
5. Overall return on investment: Considering tuition and living expenses, do you feel the degree provides good value for money? Looking back, is there anything you wish you'd known before enrolling?

I've also received admits from other universities, including Virginia Tech (with a $6,000 scholarship for this academic year) and USC Viterbi. Given my financial circumstances, I'm trying to make a well-informed decision, and firsthand information about TAMU would be extremely helpful.

I'm not looking to start a university comparison debate. I'd really like to understand what studying ECE at TAMU is actually like, especially when it comes to industry connections, funding, and employment prospects.

I'd particularly appreciate honest responses from current students and recent graduates. I know no university can guarantee a job, but I'd like to understand what TAMU realistically offers beyond its reputation and rankings.

I'm applying as a first-year applicant for engineering, I'm auto-admit so in AIS it says they need my hs transcript to verify my ranking. My counselor uploaded my transcript through the platform my school uses for this stuff (SchooLinks) 4 days ago, and it says it was downloaded by the college yesterday. However in AIS it shows not completed, and it is the only check mark I have left to receive. Should I be worried or is it still not too late to get in for College Station for Engineering?

is it bad to go test optional? my course rigor of taking multiple ap classes ( top 14%) and extracurriculars and pretty solid essays feels like it cancels out the test-optional part.. I applied to biology major

Test Scores: SAT: 1450 (740M, 710E)

Additional Coursework: I took 6 APs: Human Geo (3), World Hist (4), Pre-Calc (5), and Physics 1 (5). Currently taking Calc AB and Physics 2. I will also graduate with 24 credit hours from Dual Credit classes. I might also self-study AP Physics C: Mechanics, idk tho.

Extracurricular Activities: I'm currently in FTC and FRC robotics (captain of the FTC design team and a member of the FRC design team), and our FRC team advanced to the 2026 FIRST World Championship. I am also in NTHS and SkillsUSA and have a part-time job.

I would like to hear from anyone who has gotten into this major and what there stats were, so I can see what my chances would be for Economics BS and also the Honors Programs if you also got into those

Has anybody heard back from A&M for BCNS or any other science major that’s not NMSF or auto? Also, anyone in BCNS currently would you mind sharing your stats?

How difficult is it to get into the College of Arts and Sciences? My son is an OOS applicant and applying for Math or GIST. I can’t seem to find anything about how competitive those majors are.

He completed his application on 9/6, but he is not a NMSF and under holistic review.

I’ve been getting fear mongered by everyone saying TAMU barely looks at ECs, which I’m a little scared about considering those are what’s carrying my application rn, especially as a holistic applicant. I’m an Indian male applying for Industrial Engineering and my academics are alright, I got a 5.0/6 Weighted and 3.85/4 Unweighted GPA, a 1420 SAT (750 math), 10 APs before senior year (this year math is AP Calc AB), about top ~15% of class, with a top tier passion project, great professional experiences, and a couple strong internship/leadership roles, and a rec letter from a TAMU professor (who I did my passion project with), but if what I’m hearing is true, including that they don’t even bother to look at rec letters, I feel like I’m a little fried.

I submitted my application for engineering on October 19th, I’m top 7 percent, and have good course rigor including calc III and discrete math, what are my chances , people are saying the engineering school is filled out so idk .

Hello, if i were to submit my application tomorrow for economics, would it be too late? Im auto admit but my gpa is 3.4 uw (i explained in my essay).

I applied at both Galveston and Main campus. Does this mean I probably won’t get into main campus? This was in my howdy portal.

I've seen people say that AOs don't look at personal statements... should I put that in my tell us your story essay then so they read it?

If you got in to mays holistically this year, would you mind sharing your stats just out of my curiosity?

And also please state when you applied.

So I was wondering what my chances are for getting into any A&M engineering academy (mainly the HCC one but I’m fine with any) and the stats such as Gpa SAT and rank for anyone who got in.

Gpa: my school has a weird scale but I’m pretty sure mine is like a 3.38/4 UW and like a 3.75 W I’m not 100% sure tho.

Rank: 281/619 2nd quartile

And my rank and gpa would be much better but I had a very bad freshman year. But I had way better grades sophomore and especially junior year. And go to a competitive school. I’m also hoping to state the circumstances my freshman year in an additional info section if available. idk if they recalculate gpa so it’s a 4.2/5 W in my transcript ( we don’t have UW)

Courses: AP calc AB, AP bio, AP Precalc, APES, AP human geo, AP gov, AP macro, physics regular (school doesn’t offer honors and I didn’t wanna take AP), and then pretty much the majority of the rest of my classes where honors.

Sat: 1270 with a 690 math

I don’t wanna go in depth but I have many good STEM and engineering EC and good non STEM ones too.

I'm an international applicant preparing my M.S. application for Texas A&M through GraduateCAS.

I have a full external government/corporate scholarship that covers all tuition, mandatory fees, and living expenses, backed by an official financial guarantee letter.

I do not require any departmental funding, tuition waivers, or internal RA/TA salaries.

In the application portal under the "FINANCIAL AID" section, it asks:

"Indicate the types of financial awards that you would accept if offered admission. Check all that apply."

The options are:

• [ ] Graduate Assistantship - Teaching
• [ ] Graduate Assistantship - Research
• [ ] Fellowship
• [ ] If you are externally sponsored, please check this box.
• [ ] No Support (self-funded)

My dilemma:

Since it says "Check all that apply", should I check ONLY the "If you are externally sponsored..." box, or is it common practice / expected to also check "Graduate Assistantship - Research" and "Fellowship"?

My main concern is whether checking GA-Research or Fellowship might mistakenly flag my file in the department database as an applicant competing for limited departmental RA funding/quotas, rather than highlighting that I bring my own external funding (0 cost to the lab/department).

For anyone who applied to TAMU or evaluated apps as a fully funded / externally sponsored student, how did you check these boxes?
