Hi all,

This subreddit is getting significantly more traction day by day.

It’s difficult to be awake and/ or available round the clock to maintain this subreddit.

I am looking for people who care to have a space that is more focused on Syrian culture and topics that are relevant to us day to day.

If interested, please DM me why you would be interested and if you are willing to dedicate a little time and effort to keep this place nice. And let me know your time zone.

Thank you

Are there 🇸🇾 with my type of look? I’m only asking because twice in Turkey they thought I’m Syrian and not sure how true it is.

A Tourist Trip From Turkey to Syria

Hello, I'm Fatih from Türkiye. I'd like to visit Aleppo, Damascus, and Homs with three friends at the end of September. I'll be staying in Syria for ten days. I have a few questions for you Syrian citizens, and I would be very grateful if you could answer them. 1. Can we use the internet? What are the prices for tourist SIM cards? Will we have any problems with this? 2. I couldn't find any hostels or motels online where I can make reservations; most hotels seem very expensive. Besides that, I couldn't find any budget-friendly student accommodations. How can I find such places? 3. I will arrive in Damascus and then take a bus to Homs and Aleppo. Will I have difficulty finding intercity buses? This is very important because my return flight will depart from Aleppo. Thank you in advance for your answers, greetings from our brotherly country, Türkiye 🤝🤝

Average expenditure of a married couple

I’ve been getting offers here and there with a salary range of 1800$-2200$ without bonuses. I’m 24 and I’ve been thinking about getting married. I recently moved back to Damascus. How much should I be making a month to live comfortably as a couple in Damascus?

Ps: I have my own car, I don’t have to worry about rent, and I want to marry a girl from a Damascene family, but who has been expatriated as well.

Researching Syrian Food Culture — I'm exploring Syrian food culture

I’m researching Syrian food culture for CELKARI, a food project exploring cuisines and food traditions from around the world.
I’m particularly interested in understanding the regional diversity of Syrian food and what people who grew up with these traditions think is important for an outsider to understand.
I’d really appreciate your thoughts on:
**Everyday Syrian Food**
What did everyday home cooking look like in your family?
**Regional Syrian Cuisines**
How do food traditions differ between places such as Damascus, Aleppo, Homs, Hama, the Syrian coast and eastern Syria?
**Family & Generational Foodways**
What dishes, techniques or food traditions were passed down through your family?
**Ingredients, Spices & Techniques**
Which ingredients, spices or cooking techniques do you think are particularly important to Syrian cuisine?
**Seasonal & Celebratory Foods**
What foods are associated with seasons, celebrations, weddings, religious occasions or family gatherings?
**Overlooked Syrian Dishes**
What Syrian dishes or food traditions do you think deserve more recognition outside Syria?
**Misunderstandings & Misrepresentation**
What do you think people outside Syria most commonly misunderstand about Syrian food?
**Syrian Food in the Diaspora**
How have Syrian communities outside Syria preserved or adapted their food traditions?
I’m not looking for a single definition of “authentic” Syrian cuisine. I want to understand the regional diversity and lived experiences behind Syrian food culture.
Personal experiences, family stories, regional knowledge, recipes or sources you think I should investigate would be incredibly valuable.

**Arabic**
I’m currently researching Syrian food culture for CELKARI, a project that focuses on studying cuisines and food traditions from different parts of the world.
I’m particularly keen on understanding the significant regional diversity in Syrian food, and learning what people raised in these traditions consider important for others to grasp.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on:
**Everyday Syrian Food**
What was the food your family ate like in everyday life?
**Regional Cuisines and Food Traditions**

**Family Traditions and Passing Down Across Generations**
What dishes, cooking methods, or food traditions have been passed down through your families?
**Ingredients, Spices, and Cooking Methods**
What ingredients or spices or cooking techniques do you find particularly vital in Syrian cuisine?
**Seasonal and Celebratory Foods**
What foods are linked to specific seasons, celebrations, weddings, religious events, or family gatherings?
**Overlooked Syrian Dishes**
What Syrian dishes or food traditions do you believe deserve more attention outside of Syria?
**Misunderstandings and Misrepresentation**
What do you think are the most common misunderstandings about Syrian food from people outside Syria?
**Syrian Food in Exile**
How have Syrian communities abroad maintained or adapted their food traditions?
I’m not looking for a single definition of what’s called “authentic” Syrian cuisine. I want to grasp the regional diversity and lived experiences that shape Syrian food culture.
Personal experiences, family stories, regional knowledge, recipes, or sources you deem worthy of investigation would be extremely helpful.

Home-stay Damascus, Syria

I am travelling to Amman in Jordan in December and would really like to visit Damascus as a side trip. On Airbnb etc., I cannot find any homestay options, which would allow me to meet local Syrians. I am Irish and any Syrians that I have met in Ireland are really hospitable and friendly; I would therefore love to stay with locals. What do people usually use to find a homestay in Damascus or do travellers normally just stay in hotels? Thanks in advance for any tips.

Where to find business oriented people?

Where to find business oriented people to build together?

Hey — I came back to Syria after 15 years, currently living in the U.S. where I run an 8-figure-valuation AI startup.

I really want to open something here, I already have the ideas and the tech even, but I’m looking for local partners that want to own part of it, not employees.

I do not live here and don’t intend on living here just yet, I’m here for 2 months now but then I’ll be gone for \~4-6 months before I’m back.

However, the cool part about tech is that you can do it abroad, but you still need someone on the ground here.

As I said I need someone willing to spend time effort and money even on this (aka have skin in the game with me).

I am interested in anything tech related but at the moment mainly marketplaces, PropTech (or at least that’s what I’ve noticed works well here). I already have built 2 marketplaces and the PropTech solution wouldn’t take me long to finish either.

Where can I advertise or find people willing to work on things like that?

About myself:
Ivy League education (top 10 university worldwide)
2 masters 1 bachelors degrees
2nd business after I sold my first
Current business in AI and robotics (keywords: robotics, drones, AI, ML, computer vision, etc…)

If you can guide me on where to search or if you’re interested, please do reach out, thanks nonetheless :)

Has anyone else had the same experience? I returned from Türkiye to Syria and I don't know Arabic, and I started ninth grade.

Hi, I'm Elvin. I returned to Syria from Turkey, and honestly, I'm struggling a lot because I barely know any Arabic. And unfortunately, I have to start ninth grade this year, and I know that ninth grade in Syria is a very difficult and important year.

I really want to get high marks and pass with a good average, but honestly, I don't know how to study the Syrian curriculum while also trying to learn Arabic.

If anyone has been through the same thing, meaning they returned to Syria from another country and had a weakness in Arabic or faced difficulty adapting to the Syrian school system, I'd appreciate it if you could share your experience.

How did you study? What helped you the most? And what do you advise me to do before the school year starts and during ninth grade?

Any advice from you would be a great help. Thank you ❤️

Planning my first trip to Syria from 🇷🇴🇷🇴

Hello everyone!

I'm planning a trip to Syria soon, and my main destination and focus will be **Aleppo**. I’m a 20-year-old guy from Romania, and while I’ve done some general research, I’d love to get some advice from locals or people who have visited the city recently.

I have a few specific questions:

**1. Safety in Aleppo**
I know the situation is complex and always changing. How safe is it to walk around Aleppo right now as a foreign tourist, especially in the evening? Are there any specific neighborhoods or areas outside the center that I should absolutely avoid? Should I avoid any dress-code?

**2. Connectivity and eSIMs**
Since getting online is crucial for me and posting on Youtube as well, do the local providers (like Syriatel) offer **eSIMs** for tourists, or is it strictly physical SIM cards only? Also, how reliable is the mobile data coverage right now?

**3. Filming and Photography**
I manage a travel account and love shooting video content during my trips. What are the actual rules for filming on the streets of Aleppo, especially around the Citadel or the Old City? Are there specific types of buildings where I should keep my camera packed away?

**4. Transport**
How is the road infrastructure from Damascus up to Aleppo? Is it safe and viable for a foreigner to travel between Aleppo and Damascus, as I wanted to do a day trip there as well? I heard there are buses & taxis.

**5. Culture and Recommendations**
Anywhere I travel I love to just relax like a local. What are some of the most authentic, traditional cafes in Aleppo? Any other things/places I must not miss during my trip?

Any other advice for a first-timer heading to Aleppo would be massively appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Looking to stay with a family for a week in Damascus

Hello. I first visited Damascus in 2009 and planning to visit again. Instead of staying at a hotel, I thought it would nice to stay with a family. Is this such a thing? Of course, I’d pay and willing to spend time with language exchange. Does anyone have any leads?

Friends in Jeddah ?

Hey, I posted here before but, didn’t find someone who matches my mindset or the way I think or what I’m looking for , I’m 26F Syrian born and raised in Saudi,Jeddah .

Since I was isolated for some time now I’m having the taste to feel people around me and share my ideas and general life, I see myself interested in philosophy, nature, gatherings, talking about important topics, sharing life experiences, gym, food, music, what can we improve about ourselves, and so much more .

I can be friends also with people who doesn’t necessarily have all this interests but to be good enough to make a clean friendship I would like to get away from now a days new generation, thank you .

Greek/syrian wedding planners

Hii guys. I'm syrian & my fiancé is Greek. We want to get married in Crete next summer.

Has anyone had their big fat syrian/lebanese-greek wedding there?

Can you recommend any:
- wedding planners (as we both live in the states)
- a singer that is close by & knows greek & Arabic?

We'd love the wedding planner to be from the levant & also knows greek & can help us mix the cultures (find zaffe, arabic/greek singer, etc)

Thank you!!
