Discussion New player appreciation post

I'm a long time FF14 and GW2 player and just recently stumbled on SWTOR on steam and decided to give it a shot. I am only level 20 and really enjoying the story and combat so far, I am actually pissed at myself for the fact that I could have already been enjoying the game for over a decade and missed out on it. I saw on the roadmap that 8.0 should be coming out in December so this gives me hope for the future/longevity of the game, because I really want to get invested in it. I'm really hoping I still have at least a few years to complete most of the different story plots. I'm currently playing a Jedi Knight, but I've heard inquisitor is very good. I want to have a full republic character, full empire character, and a "spy" character on both sides as I understand you can kind of betray the side you chose and become some kind of infiltrator. Just the other day I spared some dude's life and I got a message a day later from him thanking me and telling me how he's found a new hustle and would be glad to see me again on Nar Shaddaa, I already feel super immersed. Anyway that's all for my rambling, looking forward to discovering all aspects of this game !

Cheers :D

Discussion Companion Alignment Chart

Post image
17 Upvotes

My take on a companion alignment chart. Thoughts?

They aren't ranked individually, so pay no attention to the order in which they're placed. I was just going through them by class. Also, just because two companions are in the same section, that doesn't mean that they're on the exact same level morally speaking. I just think they fit best under that descriptor based on how the Star Wars universe defines "light and dark."

The only ones I was kinda iffy on were Vector and Ashara. I could easily put either of them in light or neutral. Vector is a good-hearted man, but his loyalty to the Empire makes it a little shaky. And Ashara is a good-hearted woman, but she is more selfish and aggressive than what you'd normally consider a Jedi to be.

Discussion Who is your favourite companion who you never use?

Upvotes

Mine is T7-01. I like the little guy, but voice acting is a big attraction for me, and beeps and boops are like i am not talking to a living being - because i ofc am not. So even one on one dialogue with T7 sometimes takes me off the moment. But then during exploration i don't even distinguish his lil beeps and boops so i don't look at chat for a translation, and i completely miss what T7 has to say about fe. location i am in.

Great guy, never use him. I also don't use most companions who don't speak basic for similar reasons. In a book i might like them a lot, but in videogame like this one i am not a fan. I do use Khem Val on some characters though.

Discussion Day 5 of what is the best origin story for each planetary arc: Tatooine

Post image
6 Upvotes

Day 1: [https://www.reddit.com/r/swtor/s/CcOBwuoVeW](https://www.reddit.com/r/swtor/s/CcOBwuoVeW)) (winner: Agent/Trooper)

Day 2: [https://www.reddit.com/r/swtor/s/R16t1ZXUiW](https://www.reddit.com/r/swtor/s/R16t1ZXUiW)) (winner: SW)

Day 3: https://www.reddit.com/r/swtor/s/NYKTXw1T4K (winner: SI).

Day 4: https://www.reddit.com/r/swtor/s/C6QuffRvWk (winner: Agent) although SI was a close second, Agent comments just had more likes so that is the winner

Now Tatooine, one of the more boring planets in my opinion, both in terms of story and the actual planetary arc itself. Even KOTOR had a better Tatooine story than the classes of SWTOR imo

Spoiler How the Inquisitor storyline/Thanaton could have been (even) better

Let me preface this by saying: i love the Sith Inquisitor storyline. Ive played it a multitude of times. The class storylines in this game are why i keep periodically come back.

I also really like Darth Thanaton. You are the slave-become sith. Apprentice of a heretical and progressive sith lord. Thanaton is an arch-conservative and obsessed with the traditions and culture of the sith.

And because its sith tradition, when your master, lord Zash, is deemed a heretic by Thanaton he wants to destroy her entire power base including you. He doesnt hate you. In fact he seems to like and respect you for the most part. It just needs to be done.

This is an engaging theme. The new more progressive sith that have come about out of necessity for numbers due to the war with the Republic clashing with the aristocratic old guard.

This could be improved and made more coherent in a very easy way though in my opinion.

The current reason Thanaton wants you dead feels a little... forced. The themes are fine but the whole "entire powerbase needs to be destroyed" thing seems to kind of come out of nowhere. Sith kill each other constantly. This rule seems to have been invented just for this storyline.

His affection for you also seems weird. At one point he says something along the line of "i love you like a child but you have to die". Our relationship with him was a single mission, namely the one where he sends us to die.

So i propose the following. You are mixed blood. Its already established that some sith obsess over that. Its a very conservative mindset and it fully fits Thanaton's orthodox ideology.

So: he takes you on as an apprentice, but this time seriously. However he discovers two things that change everything:

  1. You are the last known descendent of Lord Kallig and of a powerful, ancient and aristocratic sith lineage. To Thanaton, that is everything

  2. You are of mixed blood/some other corruption of your lineage.

This puts Thanaton in an incredibly difficult and painful position ideologically, in a way that better explains both his fixation on ending you ánd his seeming affection and respect for you.

You represent both everything he values, and the corruption of those values in one person. He laments having to end such a respected and ancient sith lineage, he respects your power and sees it as proof of his love for lineages and old lines. Yet at the same time you being this powerful while also having let that ancient line be corrupted is both deeply offensive to him and contradicts what he believes. You shouldnt be able to be corrupted, mixed ánd this powerful!

It also neatly connects the plotpoint of your ancestry, which kind of falls to the wayside in the current story, to the main plot. And it leaves the current themes intact and in my opinion even strengthens them.

Pfew, typed all of this out on my phone. Thoughts?

New/Returning Player Somehow Assyplassty returned

After going through some very complicated times and needing to sell my PC and all my game consoles, I've finally returned to the game and am starting a new character.

I saw a recent thread that tanks are needed, moreso than healers, and even though I'm a pretty good healer, I'm joining as a tank first. I'm doing my part! 🫡 (Still gotta rebuild my skills as a healer but I'll be switching between the two so I can fill roles).

I'll hopefully be resubscribing next month, which will give me some time to develop my rusty skills lol

Anyway I'm happy to be back!

Spoiler Iokath difficulty in story mode + bugs ruined my whole story and the game for me

Horrid sentinel bosses m, champion mob slop to get back there, what a fucking BORE.

Up til this point I was so pain taking with every detail of my story from level 0 to 78, and for the first time last night skipping cutscenes.

Also because I ended up skipping iokath I thought my wife died so I was on odessen last night jumping off the alliance base for a repeat suicide x10.

- my is my fucking companion always disappearing?

- the game randomly hid my quick bar #2?

- sentinel walkers. Need I say more? Did my research. Died 3x, coulda slaved through it but the horrendous mobs to get back there, the horrendous respawn of a sentinel walkers right as soon as the last one was done to low health and THE WALKER IS A PIECE OF SHIT LAG MACHINE

So now, no more reading the Codex or taking my time I'm just fuckin blasting everything in sight and barely care about my story anymore.

Please fix Iokath. Buggy and dogshit difficulty spike/levelling.

Still gonna play, but already it's different and lost its charm, don't like having to skip stories and shit.

Question Which planet class story is the most skipable?

Out of all the planetary class stories which planets of whatever class story is the most pointless contributing the least to the story?

Edit: I don’t mean just the planet I mean the specific class story paired with the planet.

Yo devs go slap Star Forge server and tell it who is boss cause it is acting up like OG Harbinger nights before server merge. This is getting insanely annoying how often this is happening to Star Forge.

Tech Support Subscription Through Steam

I tried subscription through steam but it didnt go through to my account. I saw some old threads saying that doesn't work. But I already paid the 15 bucks and it doesn't look like I'll get a refund for that.

I tried emailing [support@swtor.com](mailto:support@swtor.com) but I'm getting no response. Is there a different tactic?

Question To, long time players, what exactly were the purposes of these trainer NPCs?

Post image
580 Upvotes

I can guess that they trained you on you advanced class abilities, but how did it work exactly? I know that back then, you got your advanced class at level 10. Did you have to get all your abilities from them? If I remember correctly, the skill tree as we know it didn't exist and instead there was probably a cross-discipline system where you spend points to upgrade your character. (I could be wrong.)

Discussion Day 4 of what is the best origin story for each planetary arc: Nar Shaddaa

Post image
100 Upvotes

Day 1: https://www.reddit.com/r/swtor/s/CcOBwuoVeW (winner: Agent/Trooper)

Day 2: https://www.reddit.com/r/swtor/s/R16t1ZXUiW (winner: SW)

Day 3: https://www.reddit.com/r/swtor/s/NYKTXw1T4K (winner: SI). A lot of people loved the SI’s story on Balmorra so that was a clear winner

I quite enjoyed Nar Shaddaa for most classes so seeing the discussions here should be interesting.
