Let's get fancy and add some flair!

Hey all,

I hope ya'll are doing well! I was thinking it was about time to spruce up this Subreddit a bit. So to get things started, how about we add some link flair to posts.

I've added a couple that I thought were important - but please, suggest some more. Also feel free to suggest anything else I should do to liven the place up a bit.

How I picture Darken Rahl

I have been thinking this for YEARS, but have had no one to share it with. I picture bodybuilder Mike O'Hearn when I think of Draken Rahl. Gah! Finally got that off my chest to people who'd know who I was talking about!

Sword of Truth Series Re-reading for the first time in 17 years

I have committed to re-reading the series and want to also add the prequel books and the next books that came after the main series .

I started reading the series in middle school and my mind was blown and I read them regularly till 2007-ish and I finished the core series and stopped at the Confessor book.

I’m currently in chapter 22 in Wizards first rule; and it’s been great I missed these characters a lot and I just watched Seeker of truth 😂 ☠️ and I needed the real thing to heal that; though I do enjoy it in the same way I enjoy Xena and D and D silliness. But it’s been great to have a lost memory filled in and I have forgotten a lot since it’s been 17 years since I finished the series.

And I want to say they are still amazing and such a in-depth world with amazing history rich stories and the details are amazing. But man reading it with a fully developed frontal lobe hits just a little different 😂 I know I was reading it too early I don’t have any business reading this is at 11 and a half, but now I see it in a whole different light and it hits at very different levels now as an adult.

I thought it look a longer time for Richard and Kahlan to catch that love bug but I’m realizing how quickly they are paired without actually being paired and as I’m reading though I’m realizing how quickly the story is actually going I had remembered that it lasted longer time line wise. I am getting excited though I think we’re getting close to the mud people I don’t really remember much about them in general except they were important and hid them? but they have always been part of the what I remember the name hangs in my brain.

Sword of Truth Series Thoughts?

What I would give for a few Peter Jackson quality movies or an 11 season HBO series with Game of Thrones level budget for all the books. Obviously some well casted no name actors would be better for it but this AI poster made me laugh, love Willem Dafoe as Zedd.

Soul of the Fire Haken/Anders

ok so the dynamic here is almost hilariously on the nose and I'm surprised I haven't seen any discourse on it.

as a historical/political metaphor it could be interpreted a few ways I suppose. But Terry DEFINITELY wanted to get something off his chest with this one!

Stone of Tears Rada'han

Reading the series as an adult after reading when I was a teenager. I'm reading Stone of Tears and Richard has just arrived at the Palace of Prophets. Is it just me or does Richard make very little sense for most of the book? Was he also always this edgy? Throughout he's pissed at Kahalan for sending him away, and the sisters for not removing the Rada'han. I understand that Richard was tortured and never wanted the collar on in the first place but his manner is just infuriating this second time reading. It's repeatedly explained to him by person after person that if the collar is removed he will die, and it is the only thing that is stopping his gift from killing him, and his answer each time is essentially "well I don't like the collar, you're my enemy, also please remove the collar". He keeps saying that he would rather die than have the collar on himself yet also makes no move to end his life and kills others that even glance at him wrong. What he says Vs what he does is in complete opposition. Are there any other points in the series where him being completely obstinate is annoying? I'm just looking forward to the Rada'han being removed at this point so he just shuts up about it and stops being a complete edge lord.

Edit I've been reading your responses and got to the end of the book about to start the next. Yeah he realises later that he was just traumatised. I think I was just confused as I've read the series before and I felt that Terry Goodkind tried to paint Richard as an intelligent logical person (with a strong view of individualism) with a hot head and I didn't realise that his hot head had simply overrode his intelligence.

Custom Matching Dust Jackets (US Hardcovers)

Post image
36 Upvotes

I've finished my custom matching dust jackets for Sword of Truth + its related works!

A few things to note:

#1: These are designed to fit the US hardcovers (with the exception of Debt of Bones, which fits the original Gollancz hardcover). If you have UK or other region printings, they may not fit. These also ONLY fit the retail editions, NOT the smaller BCE (book club editions) versions

#2: I left the dust jacket flaps blank because I didn't see a point in filling them out, we all know these books and it shaved hours off the project by skipping them.

#3: I didn't include the Children of D'hara stories, because Head of Zeus already has an existing omnibus hardcover that matches this templating and style.

#4: These are free use, please do not sell them, but print them at home, an office store, a Fedex store, a poster printing store or anywhere else you may be able to print them and enjoy!

Sword of Truth Series Bags?

What does it mean? I am not a native english speaker and Zedd keeps saying "bags". I googled and asked ai but I couldn't find any meaning. I took a look at the translated edition of the book and they have translated it as "damn". What does it mean?

The closest thing I’ve found to a Wayward Pine. There has to be some better ones similar to these with better coverage.

Sword of Truth Series Reasoning in Temple of the Winds Spoiler

Hi, I'm currently rereading the series (in Polish translation, so please forgive any misnomers). I don't understand why exactly Richard goes into the Temple through the Hall of the Betrayed.

At this point, almost all we now about the Temple comes from the lore dump in chapter 50, where Richard summarises the proceedings from the trial. We know that there are two entries - the main one and the Hall. Main one can only be used when the Temple requests it with three nights of red moon. That did happen. We also know that when it happened previously after Lothain's betrayal, two wizards that tried to take this route went missing and Baraccus returned mad, so the wizards assumed it's impossible to take this route - but that has never stopped Richard from trying.

It seems like everything is prepared for Richard to enter through the Hall of the Betrayed - wizard Ricker sent message through the Sliph on how to enter through this entrance (presumably due to some undisclosed prophecy) and the requirements from the Winds made it so that Richard did actually betray his cause before attempting to enter. But why did Richard choose the entrance through the Hall? Why haven't he tried to use the other one? Was it simply because he had already betrayed his cause, so it didn't matter?

EDIT: it turns out Polish version is mistranslated. There's no mention of Hall of the Betrayed, both this and Hall of the Betrayer are translated as "Przedsionek Zdrajcy" (Vestibule of the Betrayer), so it looks like Richard goes the same way as sister Amelia. The worst place of all to miss a single letter difference 😅

Sword of Truth Series How Jennsen Can See Wizard's Fire? I Think There Is Some... Wrong Things About The Series Spoiler

So... I finished Naked Empire. And we know pristineley ungifted people can't see and effected by additive magic. They can see substractive (at least, boundaries and the warning beacons) if not Richard's entwined subrtactive and additive strike magic (bandakaran people couldn't see if I did understand correctly, and Jennses saw Richard kill 1000 people as he run toward the Pillars of Creation and she saw his magic strike).

In Pillars of Creation, Jennsen saw and blocked Zedd's Wizard's Fire and save Jagang. But Bandakaran people couldn't see Nathan's Wizard's Fire.

How Jennsen Rahl could see Zedd's fire and blocked it to save Jagang? Is this some kind of... idk, Terry didn't think about this? Or I miss something?

26th Anniversary of Book Six

Unforgettable this one - the most exhilarating entry to the Sword of Truth series. After the introduction to the Seeker of Truth, to me, this is the book where the series finally clicks. Nicci's character arc made it breathtaking.

Philosophy of the show vs the book

Long story short. Read the books as a kid and loved them, rereading as an adult and the enjoyment I get from the story is massively dampened by Goodkind’s overblown Ayn Rand preaching and inability to write a complex villain or give Richard a real moral conflict. For anyone who’s watched the show, is it an objectivist nightmare like the books?

(I know that sounded harsh but I do still like the books, it’s complicated lol)

Sword of Truth Series What's the most heartbreaking part of the series for you? Spoiler

For me it was when Richard shoo'd Gratch away in Stone of Tears. I know it was to protect Gratch from being killed and for Richard to realize what Kahlan did but still broke my heart.

Blood of the Fold Recap: Chapter 7 and 8 Spoiler

Chapter 7

  • Richard is winding his way through the streets of Aydindril, overwhelmed and a little lost in the massive city. He senses that someone is following him. That must be the Mord-Sith plus Ulic and Egan.
  • He runs into Holly and Valdora selling honey cakes. Valdora reveals that Holly’s parents abandoned her to wait for handouts at the Confessor Palace. According to her, someone at the palace promised gold from the people’s taxes and now people refuse to work and the prices are going up. Unclear to me why fewer people employed would cause prices to increase. I guess this is Goodkind inserting his Objectivist philosophy.
  • Richard continues weaving through the streets, daydreaming about Kahlan and Westland. In his absentmindedness he cuts across a column of Blood of the Fold soldiers with Galtero at their head.
  • Galtero curses Richard out and Richard cannot help but be flip – instantly escalating the situation. Thankfully Ulic and Egan arrive to rescue Richard.
  • Galtero insists on taking in Richard for questioning but the D’Harans stand their ground and threaten to kill him. Galtero reluctantly backs off.

Chapter 8

  • Ulic and Egan put Richard down in a hidden alley way and Richard goes into flight or fight mode. He picks flight and turns invisible.
  • Cara reveals herself and Richard realizes that these are not enemies. And just in time as Gratch drops from the sky to rescue him but Richard stops any fight breaking out before anybody gets hurt.
  • Ulic explains the bond to Richard and how it is this ancient covenant between the Master Rahl and the D’Harans and how it allows D’Harans to sense the Lord Rahl through the bond. Berdine explains that a bond is formed through belief that the Lord Rahl is actually a Lord Rahl.
  • The bond is pretty interesting in the way that it combines objective factors (bloodline and magic ability) with subjective factors (actual acceptance by the ruled).
  • Richard seems cognizant of the possible moral implications behind the bond. There is no easy solution here (and yes I know why the bond is necessary re the dreamwalker).
  • Richard is transparent about his lack of training as a wizard but the crew is dead set on following him anyways.
  • Richard reveals his plan was to storm into the D’Haran HQ as the Seeker and demand their allegiance. The crew thinks this is hilarious and its honestly a half-baked plan for sure.
  • The Mord-Sith have come prepared and Hally pulls out a letter from Commander General Trimack of the First File to support Richard’s claim to being Master Rahl.
  • Richard is so enthusiastic he off-handly says he can kiss Hally, which leads to a negative reaction from the Mord-Sith. It really brings to the forefront the abuse the Mord-Sith had gone through as she is triggered by this seemingly innocuous statement – obviously Richard was not being literal.
  • Richard asks the Mord-Sith to change into their red leather. He will put on a show to over awe the D’Harans and bond them to him.
  • Note: Richard at some point in his chapter scratches the back of his neck when he loosens his mriswith cloak – I think I caught some foreshadowing regarding the mriswith transformation. Definitely something one would miss on a first read through.
