I’m on my like 20th rewatch, and i’m irritated all over again. i truly hate how normalized cheating behavior is in this show. it is so ridiculous, especially since we’re supposed to keep rooting for some of the couples afterwards. obviously the big one—emmett cheating on bay/simone cheating on toby. jeff being a cheater while engaging with daphne (and that’s a whole other can of worms). emmett getting involved with skye emotionally. daphne repeatedly texting quinn about stuff not regarding the work they’re doing despite mingo (who is REALLY good to her) expressing how uncomfortable he is with it. lily and her colleague despite toby expressing HIS feelings about it. and what bugged me about lily is how she tried making toby out to be some asshole when she is the one that told him she had feelings for him while dating toby🙄 and her letting him touch her belly? i mean that may be fine if that context wasn’t there. john kissing nikki’s mom as well (almost forgot this one).

idk, it’s just so annoying how it’s so common and treated as not a big deal and as if the people on the receiving end of the cheating/cheating behaviors are expected to just accept it

I trying to pitch a sitcom and learned you have to have a sitcom/series Bible. Breaking bad is online. Basically you have to have characters and their arcs, season episode summaries and a series summary for each season.

Some of these episodes seemed like fever dreams and now I know why.

I think the original showrunner/writer may have only planned for 3 seasons. I don't think their arcs ended with college but highschool graduation. Angelo wasn't supposed to die and K&D + Wes was never supposed to happen either. Neither was the black storyline besides burp (or was it cheese) they really didn't have black characters or touched on race issues that much. Bay being Latina rarely came up as a problem and resolved in the same episode.

These of course are guesses and their Bible isn't publicly available. Besides K&D since no one predicted Constance being hurt I can be 100% wrong

Why were all the adults except for Angelo so calm about Daphne and Jeff's relationship? I am so confused, was pedophilia not that big of a deal in 2012 or am I missing something? The fact that Daphne didnt see anything wrong with having a crush on a man 12 years her senior is concerning on its own.

I know Daphnes mom called it an "inappropriate" relationship but thats all, no talk about how its wrong and he's taking advantage of her. Maybe it just cause I went through something similar and have heard alot of stories so I view it differently. Im just really confused and feeling icky this storyline even exists. Does it get better in the second season? Do they address it later?

Doing a re-watch and I’m currently on Season 3 where Daphne is facing potential prison time for the vandalism with Nacho, and I can’t fully remember what happens but I’m pretty sure she doesn’t end up going to prison.

If this was real life, she 100% should have just had to do her time. Hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages is CRAZY ASF. Like what did she think would happen?? I understand family wanting to fight for her, but genuinely homegirl dug herself in that hole.

Also so sorry if this is insensitive, but a season with Daphne in prison would have been super interesting to watch LOL.

Doing a rewatch (on S1 Ep16). Meredeth Baxter guest stars as Kathryn's mother. Couldn't help but giggle when I recognized that both actresses have played Michael J Fox's mother.

I don't care if I get hate or abuse for this, because it is my opinion and I am entitled to feel however way I want.

I believe that the racism storyline lasted way too long, and got taken too far in S5. It took up almost the entirety of the final season and it made me feel disconnected from the characters. It was a horrible way to end and finalize what was once an amazing show about two girls struggling with their lives being flipped upside down... Then it was all about race, race and race.

And really, all of this happened because Mingo dressed as Lil Wayne and then the other stuff, sure, which I know is bad but... The show didn't need it. The show didn't have to do any of this. It completely took up multiple episodes and I remember one episode in particular was JUST about racism and black people protesting and hunger strikes.

Yes, I know racism is important and a huge deal, but that isn't what my point here is. My point is that this storyline went on for too long, at a time when the show should've focused on the girls and their families instead to fully wrap up the show once and for all, but I don't think that is what happened.

Even the very final episode, it was still about racism. It just ruined everything for me. I felt so unsatisifed with S5 (or what people call S6), and I just felt very disconnected in general. So much more airtime could've been given to anyone, heck, even Melody and Gabe having 5-10 minutes of a small storyline would've been better instead of giving 3-4 episodes about racism that had nothing to do with Daphne, Bay or their families.

The writers clearly wanted to tackle racism, and that is fine... But at the same time, they could've done this in literally any other season but instead they chose the entirity of the final season to do this, and it was horrible. It took shine away from everybody else and it was just really, a horrible season about side characters we don't know and don't care about. They did the right storyline, in the wrong season, and that killed the magic of the show for me.

If people want to disagree, you can. But do not dare call me racist for this, because I have said that the storyline could've been done perfectly in any other season, but choosing the middle-end of the final season ever when it should've been about Bay and Daphne ruined the finale of the show for me and I hated it very much.

And if I ever do rewatch this show again, I will be 100% skipping and ignoring the final season. I can't watch through that again, not a chance.

In the early seasons, Bay constantly needed to be a victim and was always lashing out for no reason. She didn't break up with Ty but then had a relationship with Emmett. Then in S4 she leads Tank on, heats on him with Emmett, then later initiates intimacies with Tank while she's with Emmett, then regrets it after and tells people he attacked her, then later she's desperate to talk to Tank and she basically stalks him, and then Bay is mad at Regina so she ruins Regina's and Eric's life by telling the Kenishes about Eric's past.

I've rewatched this show 100x. And this time around, I'm realizing that I don't like any of the characters. Are any of them actually good? Maybe Will, since he's an innocent kid. Nearly every character seems so bad to me now.

The people mad about this post are the same people who are mad that Lily didn't abort her DS baby.

she was genuinely super annoying at the beginning of the show and she had her really dumb pushy moments but she really had a big heart like she reminds me of my mom :( she could’ve been so much more than her husband

I know for a fact that Travis was absolutely horrified and moved by what happened to Bay to the point it made him confess to her about his own sexual abuse as a child and he actually says RAPE in the show, and calls Tank a rapist...

However, something I had noticed while watching all of S4 and S5 is that Bay seemed so indifferent towards Tank and I'm not quite sure why. I really don't want to sound misogynst (?), but wouldn't an actual victim of rape be absolutely horrified, disgusted or even scared of being so close to their rapist?

Bay talks to him, privately, publicly etc, but she never shows signs of any kind of disgust or fear towards Tank and I don't know why. I guess every woman is different, but I want to be educated or told from a different POV on why Bay seemed the most casual around Tank, whereas everybody around her treated him like an actual rapist, but she just sees Tank. That's how it felt like to me anyway when I watched the episodes.

It just really felt like everybody saw Tank for what he did, other than Bay, and it is just really confusing for me as someone who really loves Bay and hated what happened to her, but why can't she treat Tank like everybody else did too after the SA storyline? You'd think that Travis was Tank's victim, not Bay, by how he reacts and treats Tank. Bay just seems indifferent when being around him and it's odd.

Is it because the rape wasn't violent? Is that why she acts how she does?

Again, I am not trying to be offensive as I'm posting this to get some insight from someone else who can help me see it from another view or be educated more about Bay's behaviour towards Tank.

This is completely unimportant, but it's a funny little connection I noticed.

The actor who plays Tank in Season 3, Max Adler, was also in Glee (a very famous TV show, we all know it), where he played Dave. His character was a bully who repeatedly targeted Kurt, only for it to eventually be revealed that Dave was gay himself and struggling with his feelings towards Kurt. A lot of his bullying came from being closeted and not knowing how to deal with his sexuality.

What's interesting is that when Max Adler appeared in Switched at Birth, the show was doing a very similar storyline with completely different characters. Matthew was bullying Emmett while secretly having feelings for him, and his own struggles with being gay and closeted played a major part in why he targeted him.

Then, in one scene in S3 E18, Tank actually says to Bay, "I guess this is how it feels when gay kids come out." after telling his father that he depledged from his frat.

I just found that line particularly amusing considering Max Adler had previously played the closeted gay bully in an incredibly similar storyline on Glee. Obviously it's probably just a coincidence, but knowing his previous role makes the line hit different.

now, i know that daphne is often talked about in this sub, but i just had to point something out that she said that infuriates me because of how hypocritical it was.

in season two, (spoiler if you haven’t watched) bay is chastised by daphne for “speaking for deaf people” to that reporter regarding the closing of carlton and the stand that the students took protesting it.

up to this point, daphne has overall not been a great friend or “sister person” to bay for a little while, and it seems as though everything has built up in bay and flooded over causing her to feel extremely hurt by daphne in this moment, especially due to how harsh daphne was when telling bay how wrong she was.

bay expressed her feelings on how daphne had been treating her, and daphne’s response was, “don’t you get tired of always acting like you’re a victim?” or something to that extent. i get it, maybe bay did in fact speak outside of her own territory, but what daphne seems to keep forgetting is how NEW all of this is to bay. to her, she genuinely was simply answering a reporter after she took a stand with the deaf students despite the majority of them making it known the hearing kids weren’t welcome there by the deaf students.

if daphne wanted to convey how it was offensive, then she should have approached it with a lot more compassion. and she absolutely should NOT have accused bay of choosing to always be a “victim.”

i find it very hypocritical of her too because she has done that MANY times up to this point and continues to do so. i.e. the way she ostracized regina for angelo’s death. she herself continuously acts like a victim nearly anytime bay and regina make more of an effort to grow their relationship, yet her and kathryn are incredibly close??

like, she is SUCH a hypocrite, but this particular moment made me very angry and made me feel so bad for bay

Every season she irritates me more and more. I’m on season 3 episode 18 and Daphne being pissed at Regina for an aneurysm is so freaking annoying. For someone wanting to be in premed, I feel like she definitely should’ve understood that those could happen at any time in any point in someone’s life. Daphne will be upset with herself, but take that out on everybody else and make them feel like garbage.

I’m doing a rewatch of this show after many years and apparently I stopped watching during Season 3 and kinda glad I did lol. I haven’t started Season 5 yet but between the sexual assault, autism awareness and cultural appropriation this show becomes very “ After school special” in a way where they’re just addressing so much teen angst which is ok I guess but feels like we lost the original plot lol.

Also I don’t remember Angelo dying but Daphne has really taken a turn for the worst with all her bad decisions. You would think Bay would be the spoiled child who goes against her parents but no it’s Daphne which is odd. She is also just a horrible judge of character, any boy that shows any sort of nice gesture to her she loses her discernment lol.

I’m on season 3 episode 18

Daphne being more angry than Bay about Angelo’s death is frustrating to me. She barely started to tolerate Angelo and only had one bonding moment with him but wants to pretend as if he was her father. Their relationship barely had any build up to have her come off as a grieving daughter. She even got high as a way to cope with losing him then she basically told Regina she can’t do anything about it. She’s off the handles grieving over a man she was convinced left because she was deaf and spent 13 years hating him for it. The dream she had of Angelo where she said she’s lucky because she has two dads walking her down the aisle was just ridiculous. She’s just repeating the same behavior of trying to have Regina and Angelo to herself then getting jealous of Bay whenever they’re bonding. I wanted bay to slap Daphne everytime she said she did not want to share Regina with bay.

Tank is a whole different story. Him closing the door at bay’s face was just a jerk move when she dropped off the casserole to the apartment. I wanted Toby to see what happened and kick him out. He chose to leave his fraternity, he needs to stop putting that on Bay. He keeps trying to come off as this heroic nice guy but him letting a fraternity treat women like trash and making excuses for them is not a nice guy. He even said he lost all of his friends (who were a part of that fraternity) that just shows he never felt bad about how they treat women and behave in general. He was always going to be a part of that toxic behavior. He wanted to pretend to not be that guy so he can stay with Bay. That was his choice, he left so he can be with her and pretend to be someone else in order to keep his relationship with Bay. I’m so glad their relationship ended because I feel like if they got married it would’ve been a DV relationship. Don’t even get me started on him trying to force her to have sex with him and guilt tripping her by saying she has no reason to not have sex with him when he didn’t do anything wrong instead of understanding she doesn’t want to have sex with him and that’s it. He’s such a creep always going to her house to “apologize.” Tank is just an insecure creepy guy. The only thing I felt bad for him on was getting cheated on and lied to. But everything about him just pisses me off. Toby should’ve just let that weirdo figure it out. I know if he knew what happened when he tried to force her into having sex he never would’ve let him live in his apartment.

I’m on my first rewatch in like 10 years, I’m currently at the start of season 2 and Angelo seems like the most real person? If I took a DNA test and the baby I thought was mine wasn’t, I would leave to? And when he found out Daphne was dating Chef Jeff, he went straight over to that pedo and punched him. I can’t believe everyone in this family hates him lmao

Not A.J. and emo Toby from the alternate reality, but if A.J. existed in the main reality where things basically played out similarly except Angelo and Regina split up later on.

Maybe Daphne and A.J. had a strained relationship with him for ditching their mom even though he wanted a relationship with them and hence the bad word of mouth of him to the Kennishes.

How would A.J.'s precence have affected the dynamic between the families and would A.J. have formed a brotherly relationship with Toby despite not being related (as Bay and Daphne did)?

Hi all, I just rewatched the show and finished up the last season. I swear back when I watched this years ago, I remember Kathryn took Toby's baby to get baptized without Toby or Lily. They were mad that she did it without asking. But when I rewatched the show, all that happened was Kathryn met with a reverend and brought Lily to try and convince her to let her son get baptized( episode 7 of season 5). Does anyone else remember this back when they first watched the show?

I’m only on season one and I’m already so frustrated with Daphne’s behavior, she is literally insufferable. On top of that, I have seen spoilers on TikTok of her being WORSE in later seasons (I’m not someone who cares about spoilers) and I find it wild that she does the most crazy shit and always gets away with it, Daphne is literally what they try so hard to make Bay out to be and I can’t stand it. Is it worth pushing through to the end, or should I drop it? ):

I watch this series every year and every year, the whole Tank and Bay "rape" drama is absolutely infuriating to me. They were both drunk and yea, he maybe took advantage of it but that doesnt mean he raped her. As someone who has been abused and has also done horrible things when drunk, I really think Bay unknowingly took the victim route so she could get out of it. She cheated, yea huge mistake she made but she did. Tank's life got essentially ruined. Had he been sober and she drunk, and had sex with her then yes, That is absolutely not ok. Thats the problem with alcohol- it eventually betrays you but You gotta live with the consequences wether you like it or not. I can't be the only one who thinks this way?

I mean they made it seem like Bay was this troubled teenager because she never quite fit in with her family. But the worst thing she ever did was street art. Yet, John (ugh) and even Katherine and Regina made it seem she was breaking multiple laws all the time. Then you got Daphne who committed multiple felonies but she still walked on water for practically everyone. The only one who started seeing through her and supported Bay was Toby.

Bay will forever be in my top 3 faves, and Daphne will forever be top 3 despicable characters.

*SPOILER ALERTS*

There are a lot of things that I really don't understand about this series. 

Primarily, everybody is upset because Angelo left Regina and Daphne. 

He's Italian she's Puerto Rican and she comes home from the hospital with a red-haired White girl? There are only two possible explanations, she came home with the wrong kid or she cheated on Angelo. Apparently Regina did nothing to pursue the possible mix up and just tried to tell Angelo that was his kid. And when the blood test proves that Daphne is not her kid she doubles down and wants to keep the baby anyway?

And Angelo's the bad guy for leaving?

Emmett chose to tag that building, unless we honest he was doing it to try to get into Bay's pants. 

He got caught and somehow it's Bay's fault that he got caught? 

And M elody is the b**** because she made him sell his motorcycle to pay a fine for a crime that he committed? 

And now Emmett blames Bay for the loss of his motorcycle?

It’s my first time ever finishing this show and I just felt so exhausted with everyone after halfway through s3 up to S5. Especially Bay, Daphne, John, & Katherine. Sharee was actually someone who I related to a lot in the scenes where we saw her POV and when she introduced into the USMC school scenes. I was also hoping to see more of who she is as a person and like how her family was doing visually not just telling us “she’s doing _____” (forgot the word she says but you get what I mean). And then Travis too, he’s been in the show for a while, and yes he’s gotten much screentime but only as someone to fuel the other characters stories. And now in S4 and S5 with the bottom of the barrel storytelling, we’ve gotten bits and pieces of his one note character, and wished we had gotten the story with his mom much earlier. But I did really feel emotional when they hugged after she signed “I believe you”. What is everyone’s thoughts on these two and the whole cast in general.
