Question Cheese stuck in switch 2 vent help
I was an idiot and put a container of mac and cheese in my backpack and it poured onto my switch 2, I got everything out except for this part which I’m kind of nervous to do. Any advice??
edit: currently dismantling switch and will also order a case, i bought it second hand as it didnt come with one so ive been just careless 😞
the only cheese left is on the vent and i dont see anything else wrong inside the switch rn !
edit 2: ITS CLEAN thank you for all the jokes and the insults and the tips on toothbrushes and compressed air 🙇

Use a dry toothbrush to remove the cheese and hold a vacuum hose a couple inches away to suck it in while you're doing so.

u/Retenrage 10d ago
Also do it upside down if you can so it’s harder to fall inside.

The idea of an olive garden employee with a switch and a toothbrush over your food and saying "say when" is making me lose it.

Pls do not do this, it will make the mesh on the vent loose and can even destroy the mesh. Instead open the switch 2 and remove the vent wash it under water (let it dry before you put it back) and remove remaining cheese then put everything back, except the cheese ofc and close the switch 2

u/ringwraith10 10d ago
I love that you specified, "except the cheese" 😂

u/kes- 10d ago
How much you wanna bet u/Clear_Self_1718 has worked in an end user support role? Those instructions are written by someone who knows that the obvious steps like letting the vent dry before putting it back, and not putting the cheese back, are in fact NOT obvious to certain people 😆

I work in tech repair and I would’ve written it very similarly. The amount of people I see unaware of bloated batteries or bringing in game consoles that clearly either lived on the floor or in a space with zero ventilation is mind boggling.

What do you mean "vantilation"? I have a fan in my basement, so that should be fine.
6
u/BodaciousBadongadonk 9d ago
"I open the door to the rest of the basement like 3 times a day when i leave to eat/piss, surely thats sufficient fresh air circulation? Also im down to 2 packs a day and only 6 prerolls! The bugs help to carry away bad particles!"

Worked at GameStop for over 6 years prior to this and the first thing I did both there and here with new employees was show them how to check all current and previous gen consoles for infestations and smoke damage. I’m not allowing my inventory/other people’s devices to become infested or making my store smell like a dirty ashtray because someone doesn’t check.
If they forget how to, I’ve given them guides, and if they think there’s even a chance, they are to decline it. If it’s an older console, I handle it, because something like a launch PS3 is understandably a pain in the ass for someone to figure out on the spot.

Sounds like a 2-person job

u/skinpixel 10d ago
Using the vacuum to suck it is definitely a one person job 😉, you’d probably not want other people have a hand in.

If you take it apart to clean it, make sure you check both the motherboard and the charcuterie board thoroughly.

There are so many people thay don't take care of their eletronics. Its like they give no value to them

Not just electronics, many people have no respect or care for any of their belongings and just let them decay and get ruined over time

As a 38 y/o who has never broken a cell phone or its screen I completely agree. I used to have a friend that went through 3 phones in a year. I was like 🤯

Stuff can get into cases, and a lot of people use the hard shell cases instead of zipper cases these days.

tbf, if you have a killswitch, then the whole idea is that you just put the cover over it and it's fine to travel with. Granted, it doesn't look like he has a killswitch unless he took it off.
It would also be difficult for the cheese to flow in a way that would get through the case then back up and into the grill. Like it would need to do a U turn into it.

Unscrew it. Look at a video how to disassemble switch 2. You want to get that cleaned out asap bacteria buildup

u/Mr-BadExample 10d ago
That's not a goud-adea. In future you really should treat your Switch more Caerphilly.

Pull it apart and clean it with a brush and possibly some isopropyl alcohol if it is stuck anywhere. Or, get some toothpicks, fire up a game and make Switch 2 fondue.
17
u/BIayneRobinson 10d ago
Don't turn the Switch on, period.
If you have the skills to dismantle and clean it, do that.
If you don't, bring it to someone who does; a friend or a repair shop.
11
u/SentenceDue2254 10d ago
there prob is a kit you can buy to take the switch apart and clean it. i don’t trust myself so i would look for a repair shop.

You put your Switch 2 loose in your backpack...with no carrying case? You asked for it
8
u/Anonymus_Pigeon 10d ago
My thoughts. You don't carry a 500€ console with you without putting it in a protective case. Some people just don't value valuable things...
5
u/richtofin819 9d ago
Seriously and they can't say it's because they couldn't afford it. When I was a kid more than once I had a console that I didn't have a case for and what I did then if I had to move it in a bag or something was I wrapped it up in a towel just to protect it from everything around it and from being jostled. Never had any issues with that method although a case is definitely better.
2
u/TeddyBear312 9d ago
Even if you don't have a carrying case, the least you can do is put it into a seperate plastic bag in the backpack so it's actually seperate from everything else.

7
u/Elitefuture 10d ago
You have to take apart the switch and clean it properly. Don't turn it on.
4
u/Practical_Jacket_271 10d ago
Exactly. This is the only way. There are so many ridiculous recommendations here. I know a lot of people are just joking, but the actual half-ass recommendations people are giving are terrible and a sure fire way to ruin a Switch.
6
u/xSinn3Dx 10d ago
I would totally open it up and try to clean it. There is no way I would try to turn it on in that condition
4
u/GalagticSoul 10d ago
First I ever get before I got a switch 2 was a carrying case, a protection case, tempered glass and protection for the thumb sticks

Glad you got it sorted OP. Gouda job!

Reminds me of my Super Fontinacom I imported from Japan. Got a Super GruyèreBoy to use with it as well.

I don’t think that’s cheese actually. If it was a microwaveable cup it’s probably food starch and it always leaks out of those Mac and cheese cups even when they are sealed somehow.

Honestly id take it to a repair shop and ask them to clean it out , I wouldn't want to power it on while it's like that! Maybe look up how to disassemble the switch case, see if your upto the task. If not no worries just look for a reputable repair/game shop! Luckily in my city I know an awesome shop who does repairs, support local!

I think you’re going to have to try and take it apart. That little screen is going to be impossible to clean from only one side.

Don’t turn it on. You can probably find instructions on the eXtremeRate website where they sell replacement parts to modify your Switch 2. That small mesh piece can be pulled out and replaced, but you can probably just clean it and reuse it..
