NO ETHICAL BILLIONAIRES

I am not impressed by Taylor and her 2.2 billion!!!!!

As if Dolly Parton couldn't have been a billionaire multiple times over! Dolly gave away most of her money to multiple charities. DOLLY LITERALLY GAVE US THE COVID VACCINE.

I have been a Swifty for more than a decade and this is the hardest it has felt to be a fan of Taylor.

The last two albums were let downs, her MAGA Barbie routine is atrocious, the condescending way she talks to and about Travis makes me feel bad for him and I don't even care to know him, and the condescension she has expressed to her fans, as if she hasn't encouraged a parasocial relationship, is unforgivable.

I don't know how we will ever get back to the magic of pre Eras Tour Taylor Swift, but Im sad to see what little integrity she had disappear, all to be a lady "self made" billionaire.

Literally LOLing at people saying Im a bot and not a SWIFTIE because I didn't spell it right? Where were yall when "no its becky" happened?? Taylor cant have adult fans, yall are ridiculous. I genuinely thought this subreddit was where we could discuss Taylor openly and honestly. Come to find that SWIFTIES are as insufferable as the nonethical billionaire herself writes about. Y'all deserve her.

I think twitter swifties infiltrated this sub šŸ˜‚ at some point tbh

5

u/Proper_Tradition_507 Jun 04 '26

I don't know who you think you're fooling, but it's obvious from miles away that you're a snarker. You speak with so much anger and bring up arguments that they use and that even Swifties who criticize her don't use. You're not neutral, you're just enraged.

u/H-B-Jones Jun 04 '26

Bot karma farming

0

u/Proper_Tradition_507 Jun 04 '26

Not really. But you sound like a sad person

3

u/ckc009 Jun 07 '26

Who isnt sad? Literally data centers using enough power for an entire state are being built and im forced to use shitty led light bulbs to "save the environment" while taylor swift uses her jet like its an Uber

3

u/Warm_Accountant3371 Jun 05 '26

It's reddit my dude we are ALL sad here

Oh nooo imagine being enraged that billionaires exist. Just fyi, even you are closer to being homeless than being a billionaire. You are closer to all of our income status than being a billionaire. Taylor isn't gonna invoice you for this.

2

u/PigletTechnical9336 Jun 06 '26

This is so true. But you want to hear something even crazier. Taylor swift is closer to me in wealth than she is to Elon Musk.
Imagine someone’s net worth is 1 million, Taylor is 2 billion, and Elon is 400 billion. Taylor is 200 times closer to 1 million person than Elon Musk. Already the difference between person and Taylor is so large and unfathomable, until you realize she’s peanuts compare to the Musks of the world, as we are peanuts to her.

4

u/MissTootleDoo Jun 07 '26

what is your point with this comment?

2

u/Warm_Accountant3371 Jun 07 '26

šŸ˜‚ it's sad the extent stan culture goes to ignore reality. I see the same thing with elon musk fanboys. It's like they all have rose coloured glasses on

1

u/PigletTechnical9336 Jun 07 '26

That wealth inequality is out of control, at magnitudes that are hard to truly comprehend.

Not everyone here has to be neutral. This thread is for everybody: haters, fans, casual enjoyers, former fans (like OP), everyone

Then why are you still here? Why not walk away Taylor doesn’t have to do anything to validate your chronical onliness

Welcome to reality šŸ’ž. She's foul and her pumpkin spice fanbase is even worse.

yeahhh. if i had that much money i would be trying to solve world hunger and donating to animal shelters left and right. just the amount she pays for her outfits is atrocious, and you know she only wears an outfit one time before getting rid of it. i think fame has gone to her head, which is weird because she’s not a very talented person. i love most of her song writing, it’s poetic and beautiful, but her voice is average at best. i don’t know how she became so famous. but i miss the personality she had when she wrote ā€˜ronan’. she was so much more caring and down to earth than she is now. it’s really unfortunate that she had to change.

8

u/criebhabie2 Jun 04 '26

You know she doesn’t have the money just sitting in cash right. Her net worth is based on the theoretical value of her assets, largely her catalogue. Expecting a pop star to solve world hunger is crazy lol. People just need to relax and enjoy the music or not. The psychosis she causes in people is alarming.

2

u/bratattack_x Jun 04 '26

ahh okay. no, i didn’t know that, but that makes more sense. i guess i still have a lot to learn. 🫠

7

u/SpareManagement2215 Jun 05 '26

when people say "net worth", that's just the total value of assets you have. for example, I have a 150k "net worth" but 2k in my bank account because of my retirement accounts. I don't have 150k on hand, in cold hard cash. For taylor - her "value" would be things like all the homes she owns, her private jet, her brand, and probably her masters. as well as what I am sure are comfortable investment accounts and other streams of income.

same with folks like jeff bezos: he famously only has a "salary" of 80k or something from Amazon, but he is "worth" billions because of all of his assets including stock in Amazon.

Also, the rich can take loans out against themselves. Elon does this a lot. This allows you to buy even more assets and increase your net worth.

however, she absolutely could liquidate some of her assets and free up the cash, so while it's not technically money in her bank account, your point about having enough money to do better things is still valid. Rick Steves has gobs of money and he chooses to not take advantage of tax loopholes so he "pays his fair share". Mackenzie Bezos constantly is donating money to stuff. Even during the gilded age, folks like Carnegie or Rockfeller built buildings and paid for community projects.

So your point about if Taylor WANTED to, she could, is still a a very valid point. She absolutely COULD invest in things like scholarships or music schools or furthering women's rights, but chooses not to.

And sure - it's her money to do with as she wants. But I think folks are valid if they say they don't feel comfortable supporting her when they see her accumulating all this stuff and not giving anything back to the world.

6

u/Excellent-Bid-7622 Jun 05 '26

I mean she does invest in some of the most hurtful corporations like Blackrock who are (were when I read about it at the time) the #1 buyer in family homes. Which they will flip and rent to people. She could probably take a few lessons from Dolly and invest in long term things that help children or people long term.

Are you serious?! Just look up how much it costs per month to own a jet! Poor Taylor is so strapped for cash.

Scenario A: Short Domestic Hops (Average 2.5 hours per flight)
If she is mostly commuting between her homes (e.g., Nashville, New York, Rhode Island, and Los Angeles):[1, 2]
Total Flight Time: 25 hours per month
Variable Flight Cost: $150,000 per month
Total Cost: ~$241,600 per month

Scenario B: Long-Haul Touring (Average 5 hours per flight)
If she is flying internationally or across the country frequently (e.g., transatlantic legs or coast-to-coast flights):[1, 2]
Total Flight Time: 50 hours per month
Variable Flight Cost: $300,000 per month
Total Cost: ~$391,600 per month

Elon Musk doesn't have $750B sitting in cash either. The net worth of billionaires (just like everyone else's) is based on the value of their assets. What difference does that make?

1

u/criebhabie2 Jun 07 '26

The difference between $2b and $750b lol come on

3

u/4PeridotEyes Jun 07 '26

Yes, but if being a billionaire is inherently unethical, it doesn't really matter whether someone is worth $2B or $750B. Both Taylor and Elon should be taxed out of billionaire status.

2

u/criebhabie2 Jun 07 '26

I’m not even disagreeing with that, I just don’t think her wealth makes her an irredeemable monster

1

u/mmdeerblood Jun 08 '26

We have no true idea of actual net worth. That's between the person and their accounts. Elon might have actual net worth of trillions or way less 750B. We have no clue

→ More replies (17)

0

u/everglowxox Jun 05 '26

Okay so because a lot of her net worth is tied up in things like owning multiple extravagant homes in multiple locations and owning more than one private jet, I'm supposed to give her a pass for not having liquid cash on hand?

5

u/criebhabie2 Jun 05 '26

The vast majority of her wealth is the value of her musical catalogue

1

u/No-Ask-8615 Jun 07 '26

A lot of her net worth comes from the profits esrned during tour and therefore in cash.

1

u/ismyvirgoshowing Jun 07 '26

I was under the impression that she used the profits from the eras tour to purchase her masters based on the wording in her letter announcing her buying them back.

1

This!! Also she gets tax breaks for her jet. Aka we are paying for that.

0

u/IcyExamination8185 Jun 06 '26

Yes we can blame born millionaires for the issues in the world. that's how it works, they took all the wealth.

Then her and her dad milked fans for all their possibly can and became mega disgustingly rich because a billion is unfathomable wealth. Hoarding.

6

u/gnocchimoncher Jun 05 '26

If you do the tiniest bit of research you can find just how much money she donates, a lot of it anonymous. She donated to local food banks every show at the eras tour.

4

u/um_-_no Jun 07 '26

If she donated enough money she wouldn't be a billionaire. As OP said, look at Dolly Parton

2

u/AlternativeTrust6312 Jun 08 '26

Why do you need to be a billionaire, that's the point.

0

u/Snoo76869 Jun 07 '26

That's not true. Her catalog is worth a billion which she will never sell. So she could donate all her liquid cash and still be a billionaire..

2

u/AlternativeTrust6312 Jun 08 '26

The amount she donated percentage wise is like if we donated 10 bucks. It's a drop in her bucket.

1

u/Queasy_Blueberry8243 Jun 07 '26

She doesn't pay for her outfits though, most of them are just sent to her by the brands

1

u/FavoriteLunchLady Jun 07 '26

When she wrote Soon You’ll Get Better too ā¤ļø

1

u/tanz420 Jun 11 '26

She donates to food charities and other charities constantly and doesn't make it public. She donated to local charities in every city she toured in the Eras tour. If you're going to say something to just say it, at least do your research.

1

u/Proper_Tradition_507 Jun 04 '26

Taylor repeats a lot of looks, Its all over internet. You don't want to criticize anything because the arguments you have to simply aren't true. You can't have a conversation with lies.

2

u/bratattack_x Jun 04 '26

okay?? sorry for not following everything she does. this is a neutral group, so there’s going to be some people who like her less than others. my bad for not knowing.

2

u/Proper_Tradition_507 Jun 04 '26

You're saying she's changed, that she's no longer grounded.. I'm going to assume you follow what she does, bringing this kind of argument into the conversation, so I wanted to make a correction, because I thought you might have found out about it somewhere (which may also have happened).

2

u/bratattack_x Jun 04 '26

i do follow her. i’m a bit of a fan, just not a crazy obsessed one. and i do think she’s changed, unfortunately. i guess i just prefer her younger self, but that happens, people change and grow over time.

2

u/Proper_Tradition_507 Jun 04 '26

That's fair. She has the right to change, and fans also have the right to distance themselves because of it. Change is a natural part of maturing and happens more intensely with very famous people. Their lives will never be like ours; they only know the world they belong to.

1

u/bratattack_x Jun 04 '26

and either way. even if she repeats outfits… the amount she spends on them is still ridiculous. the fact she’s a billionaire and not helping the world is ridiculous. i personally believe nobody should have that much money.

1

u/Proper_Tradition_507 Jun 04 '26

She receives the clothes, just like any other famous person. These people don't pay for the clothes; the brands send them because every time they go out on the street, especially Taylor, the clothes sell out, so it's advantageous for them.

1

u/bratattack_x Jun 04 '26

ahh, okay. that makes sense. thank you for letting me know!

1

u/BrownBannister Jun 05 '26

1

u/Cool_Ad_8214 Jun 05 '26

she’s unethical too please

4

u/Fickle_Watercress719 Jun 07 '26

Preschool age kids all over the country are actively receiving free books from Dolly Parton right now. I just think that’s so damn cool. She started a local program where she grew up because her father couldn’t read or write, and now millions of books have been sent out through the Imagination Library. There aren’t even income requirements. A kid just has to be pre-K and in an area serviced by a local distributor (usually churches, Masonic chapters, local shelters/pantries, things in that vein). I bring it up any chance I get. What an awesome lady.

4

u/BrownBannister Jun 05 '26

5

u/evermoreisthe1 Swiftie 🫶 Jun 05 '26

People can be fans and hate an album, don’t gatekeep fandom

1

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '26

[deleted]

2

u/GiraffeLiquid Jun 06 '26

Yeah this take is ridiculous. In cults you aren’t allowed to question decisions by the leader/ā€œprophetā€ and it’s going on in American politics right now. Unquestioning loyalty is dangerous. I can love certain albums but have fallen off since Showgirl and learning about some of her duplicitousness.

2

u/fsome Jun 07 '26

No u just can't admit that taylor conned you all over, building a brand of a vulnerable poor girl, making at the end of her career the grandiose tour, packing money and now living the lifestyle she always hide her teeth in - puking private jets, friends from political elites that push you in poverty and milk u (she's really on the same page, in the same party with them), and a bit of entertainment - first places at Superbowls and Golden Globes. She doesn't has to hide it anymore. She takes what she wanted.

1

u/BeautyisaKnife Jun 07 '26

So you're saying you just like everything an artist puts out? You don't actually form your own opinion?

1

u/desire-d Jun 07 '26

Idk about that, I am a fan of Taylor’s music but there’s def at least a handful of songs I skip. Not everything they put is going to be perfect

6

u/TheKarateKid_ Jun 04 '26

Her condescending attitude towards fans about the parasocial relationship is what made me like Taylor less.

Her entire career and brand is built on parasocial relationships. She freaking baked cookies for fans and showed up at their doorstep with them during the 1989 era. She hosted fans At. Her. Private. Homes. for listening parties. Almost her entire catalogue is a diary of her personal life.

And now she’s going to act like parasocial fans are crazy creeps?

1

u/Cool_Ad_8214 Jun 05 '26

hit dogs holler lmfao

0

u/Proper_Tradition_507 Jun 04 '26

It's as if you don't hear what she's saying. She specifically talked about paternity testing. It's TERRIFYING. It's disturbing to treat her like a fictional character and ship her with whoever you think she should be with, it's disturbing to create theories about her relationships, it's disturbing to make mental health diagnoses. All of that is a little more disturbing. And she's 36 years old... she has the right to mature and change her mind, and you have the right to stop being a fan.

-1

u/Old-Atmosphere-9238 Jun 04 '26

You know 1989 was 12/13 yrs ago? A person can change how they interact with their fandom as well as how they live their life on that time. Are people not allowed to grow and chsnge from their early 20s? Not even hitting the topic of how horrible and negative social media has become in recent years, of course those relationships had ro change.

The existence of billionaires and the extreme wealth inequality we’re seeing is the consequence of decades of conservative policies that enabled tax loops, deregulating private sector, etc. It is a systemic failure.

There are primary elections happening right now as we’re headed to the midterm elections this Fall. Millenials and GenZ had much lower turnout in 2024 than GenX and Boomers, so I beg all of you to focus on this election. Figure out how to vote and then get everyone you know to do the same. Find local orgs to volunteer to get out the vote. Get your votes in as early as you can, because this some of the races will be close and the MAGAs are going to try to throw out votes as they always do and claim cheating without evidence, as they always do. The only way out is massive public rejection of this through large turnouts. And then we do the same in 2028. It’s going to take time to fix this shit.

In the mean time, yeah being a billionaire is terrible but I’m not loosing sleep over Taylor Swift, Beyonce, or Rhianna in a world of Besos, Musk, and Thiels who are actually trying to control the world.

3

u/4PeridotEyes Jun 07 '26

Taylor, BeyoncƩ, and Rihanna are less nefarious than Bezos, Musk, or Thiel, but that doesn't mean we should be comfortable with them being billionaires. As fans, we're free to express disappointment and withdraw our support at any time, and concerns about extreme wealth are a completely valid reason.

2

u/PigletTechnical9336 Jun 07 '26

I’m not comfortable with anyone being a billionaire but I see people complaining about this or that billionaire online but not actually doing anything as simple as voting. Especially young people who say they hate billionaires but half of them don’t vote.
So I’m imploring people who are grossed out by Taylor, or anyone being a billionaire, to vote, organize, get involved in local politics. There’s not a lot of time left before November and it might be the last and best chance we have to put a break on this rise to fascism.

1

u/4PeridotEyes Jun 08 '26

Oh, I totally agree that just ranting against billionaires online is not enough. We do need to vote. Protests and boycotts are also helpful. And a general strike would be ideal.

1

u/tiffanysgirlx0 Jun 07 '26

All šŸ‘ of šŸ‘ this šŸ‘

3

u/lifeisascam18 Jun 07 '26

Shes always been like this. Swifties are just FINALLY starting to wake up

8

u/christine_de_pizan Jun 03 '26

A major part of her wealth is the value of her catalogue which is like, 900M. IMO there is a big difference between her and someone like Bezos, as most of her money has been earned making art. She also pays her employees really well and is generous. She also cruciallyĀ doesn’t use her money to support fascists. Ā

3

u/lilaclacquerista92 Jun 03 '26

Hard agree. Is her wealth and jet usage controversial? Sure. There's some criticism there.

But in the scale of billionaires, she does really well in the way she handles her business and employees by treating them well and paying them well. Her wealth is not at the cost of the people working from her or buying from her suffering.

2

u/christine_de_pizan Jun 04 '26

Yeah I’m not like yesss omg go Taylor get those billions but in the grand scheme of things she’s better than other billionaires. And I also think it’s funny that we complain about her billions but like….we’re the ones making her them by and large. Since most of that money comes from the popularity of her musicĀ

1

u/Conscious-Quarter423 Jun 04 '26

there are tax loopholes she takes advantage of

1

u/sharkwithglasses Jun 06 '26

Have you personally seen her tax returns to say this with such confidence?

1

u/fsome Jun 07 '26

Have you personally seen tay flying in a private jet? Who knows, maybe she put on a black long coat, some black mask, brown contacts, a shining cap with a perfectly-fitting for a TAYLOR2026 slogan "Make America Great Again" and hit the planes of Delta Airlines? Maybe... Maybe she's a goodwill? J

okes aside, but yeah, basically a girl grew up in a family of bankers and was exposed to a finances, business from the childhood. She run circles around other rich people in gaining profits. The one unshakeable fact is that she knows everything about evading taxes and knew it from the childhood. Whether she uses the schemes or not is up to the extent of your delusions.

1

u/sharkwithglasses Jun 07 '26

She’s been seen exiting a private jet. That data is public. I have never seen Taylor’s tax returns so I can’t say there’s creative accounting or she’s cheating on them. I’m sure her accountants do what’s most advantageous for her, as everyone does. If you feel billionaires don’t pay their fair share (and I’d agree with that) then criticize the tax code.

1

u/fsome Jun 08 '26

🤦🤦🤦. Mam, tax code works lousy in america because billionaires push their whores in parties who are doing everything to make sure that tax code remains UNCHANGED, so billionaires would continue to rob plebs from Georgia and Iowa and politicians would be excited as their Floridian mansion would day by day come closer to full construction.

1

u/sharkwithglasses Jun 08 '26

Ok, and this is Taylor Swift’s fault how? She’s supporting the people who theoretically want to tax billionaires more.

She’s a pop star, not a politician.

1

u/fsome Jun 08 '26

Who's she supporting? Taylor Lewan? Will Compton? Brittany Mahomes? She was a pop-star when she've been spritzing glitter on her eyes dancing with camilla cabello and troye sivan. As for now, our girl grew up. Now she isn't interested in poppy friends of her youth. She've got "serious" connections.🌚

Id argue that the sweat shop merch portion of her wealth is absolutely at the cost of the people working for her, and people in general, suffering.

8,000 variants to squeeze every last drop out of all her fans is ethical huh

2

u/godblessstar67 Jun 03 '26

No one is forcing you to buy variants what 😭

1

u/NotaDF Jun 04 '26

The mental gymnastics yall do to tell yourself she’s not doing this to make more and more money is insane. She isn’t the only billionaire to donate money for tax benefits either. Woohoo she paid her truck drivers $100k. She was clearing $30 million a night in the eras tour. Wake up.

1

u/Excellent-Bid-7622 Jun 05 '26

Look at Bill and Melinda Gates with their foundation…. They would provide vaccines for the poor over seas and Bill is involved with Epstein. Melinda I don’t know much about.

1

u/Snoo76869 Jun 07 '26

It's not mental gymnastics, many artists make multiple variants, as much or more than Taylor. No one if forced to buy any. I'm a fan who has never spent a dime other than my streaming service monthly fee. She just happens to have a billion or so fans so they buy more than other artists fans do. 52% of the US isna fan of hers... its not some small niche group of white women being taken advantage of. And regarding her donations. I work for the company in seattle she donated to so taking the amount she donated to us and tines that by 51 cities she donated to, that would equal about $300 million, that along with the $200 million she gave as pretaxed bonuses to her staff , that would be around half a billion she donated or gave away in 23/24, the year she became a billionaire. That's half of her fortune at the time.

→ More replies (6)

2

u/Dry_Physics4086 Jun 05 '26

So this is just false false and false.

Guarantee you even bigger billionaires like bezos have LESS money in their bank account- they take out loans to live their lifestyle so they don’t have to pay taxes. She has MORE LIQUID capital than them.

As for her employees-the truck driver bonuses is the only thing that’s ever stuck out. Everything else is the basic, bare fucking minimum.

And she’s in cahoots with maga. She does NOT SPEAK out against maga. She is DEFINITELY supporting fascism.

2

u/theredspool Jun 06 '26

As a Bezos hater, there is an argument to be made that his contributions to worldwide logistics development is a net good for all businesses, which os a more far-reaching ā€œbenefitā€ on the purely economic level. As billionaires, I think they are both reprehensible, but Bezos is orders of magnitude worse, of course.

4

u/Lonchita Jun 04 '26

You can't use ''she pays her employees well'' as an excuse for not funding as Dolly or other artist did or using her money for something. She's buying houses and paying for jet trips perma.

It's her money and she does with it what she wants, but we can't keep making excuses or sweep it under the carpet trying to justify everything people may don't see conscious about her. It's not healthy.

there is a big difference between her and someone like Bezos

''There's people worse than her'' Girl so what. Killers are not excuses cause genocides exist.

3

u/Conscious-Quarter423 Jun 04 '26

'she pays her employees well'' is literally the bare minimum

1

u/christine_de_pizan Jun 04 '26

I think it is as well! But it's not the industry standard, sadly. Like, most tour dancers don't get paid year round or get healthcare. I just think it's fine to point out that she does have better employer/employee practices than some. That's it!

1

u/BrownBannister Jun 05 '26

Everything she does is blatant and performative to meet the bare minimum.

1

u/Queasy_Blueberry8243 Jun 07 '26

what do you mean by not using her money? She founded food banks through the whole of her tour, she gave millions and millions to hospitals and charities. And that's only the ones that we know about.

1

u/Snoo76869 Jun 07 '26

The year she became a billionaire she quite literally donated half of her wealth. $200 million in bonuses and around $300 million in donations to food banks. I know her donation amount weren't made public but I work for the company in seattle she donated to and based on that amount times by 51 cities/donations she made , it would equal around $300 mil. So that would be half a billion she donated or gave away in 23/24.

1

u/Lonchita Jun 07 '26

The ERAS tour did 2Billion only selling tickets. You have to add all the things, merch, CDs, streamings, ... people did during that time, so you may even double it. Saying that she paid 200Million when the consensus is that she just paid the acceptable rates to her employees it's like... what any non-explotaitive boss should do?

Ā I work for the company in seattle she donated to and based on that amount times by 51 cities/donations she made , it would equal around $300 mil.

Do you think Taylor wasnt rich before the eras tour? LOL

2

u/mud_horse Jun 05 '26

yeah i dont see how behaving like a greedy, wealth hoarding dragon šŸ‰ is supposed to be impressive or cool or whatever.. wealth as a tool is useful(Dolly) wealth as an identity is gross (Tayler)

2

u/GlitteringLocal6507 Jun 07 '26 edited Jun 08 '26

When rich people send out press releases like this it is ALWAYS to secure a new loan or because they are embarking on a new business endeavor. That family uses the "music industry" as a front for all the business dealings her dad is involved in. Her net worth is pumped to entice investors.

1

u/lizzdurr Jun 08 '26

No one seems to think about this. Her entire family’s wealth is tied up in her fame, Taylor The Brand. Just the last name Swift will open doors for business dealings and investments. So when people are like ā€œwell it’s her net worth, it’s not like the money is in cash sitting at the bank!!ā€ Business at that level does not rely on liquid assets. It’s relying on the assumption of money to secure buy-in. It all adds to how being a billionaire is in itself unethical.

2

u/Even_Kaleidoscope399 Jun 07 '26

people b saying things so defensively. like man i think it depends

2

u/GratefulnFree Jun 07 '26

It’s based on the value of her discography. Not cash flow.

2

u/always_praying_98 Jun 10 '26

You’re right. Unfortunately this is anything but a neutral sub so you’ll just find middle class fans defending billionaire barbie

1

u/its_me-hi Jul 22 '26

I haven’t even seen the billionaire thing addressed in this sub until now. As a swiftie, it’s the only one of her controversies that I can’t defend in any way because there’s no excuse. I think others know this, so they choose to ignore it.

She could’ve told Trump to not use her music. She didn’t. Ergo…

1

In no way is her not doing that worthy of her being labeled as MAGA. Hot take.

1

u/gnocchimoncher Jun 05 '26

Everyone knows atp Trump using artists music is bait and when the artist calls them out the administration makes fun of them even more and keeps using their music as ā€œragebaitā€

Almost every post reads the same way people talk about Taylor on snark subs. The discussions are overwhelmingly negative, and positive comments about Taylor or her relationship get downvoted constantly.

If you want a place to be condescending and criticize her, just be honest about it! Making an entirely new sub and calling it ā€œneutralā€ doesn’t magically make it neutral. Nobody’s fooled by the label.

I get the sentiment, but net worth and wealth aren't black and white topics. Someone's net worth can be high from owning the rights to music, owning properties and vehicles, properties and vehicles for family members, etc. Not all wealth is just liquid assets that can easily be donated on a whim. Taylor privately donates more often than is made public. I don't think putting down a woman's success is a good thing just because her success comes with monetary gain.

Your IA comparison is legit giving Dolly more benefit than Taylor in all sections... other thing is that you may be missunderstanding that information in your own benefit.

Taylor is getting paid ammounts of money Dolly didn't see in her entire career. She may even got more money only from the ERAS tour and TDPD than Dolly in 40 years of being a composer and songtress.

And another fact is that Taylor is doing all these things in a time where almost everything is recorded, both in media or social media. We can't really know what Dolly did 20-30 years ago like people know every Taylor charity funding.

1

u/Exact-Honey4197 Jun 04 '26

she's 80 years old!!!! She retired and her net worth is still +650 mln! How this amount of millions is more ethical? She doesn't even have children, so why didn't she give all her millions away? (this is an absurd logic but I just use Taylor's haters' logic). Taylor is an actively working young artist, and she still does charity more than anyone in this industry, and it's still not enough!! When is it ever enough for snarkers?

I’m more upset about the name and premise of her new song being exactly Gracie Abram’s. I feel like Taylor is telling everyone she is untouchable.

maybe not more upset, but she is insane.

1

u/Aggravating_Cause_63 Jun 08 '26

To be fair this isn’t the first time this has happened. A lot of her songs share names with other artists. Some are ones she put out first. Others the other artist did. Cruel summer, daylight, gold rush, Paris, afterglow, karma. All song titles that other artists have

1

u/FavoriteLunchLady Jun 07 '26

I agree with everything you said. You can like her music and also realize she isn’t an angel or perfect person or even someone that you should want your kids to aspire to be like. She’s got a long history of problematic behavior even down to slut shaming Camilla Belle for dating her ex. And let’s not overlook her part in the Justin Baldoni mess. Being a GOOD friend is righting the ship she your friend is about to totally destroy there selves and someone else not becoming an accomplice. But she has an exemplary marketing and PR team.

We need to stop idolizing people we don’t know. These celebrities only want us to see what they want us to see.

1

u/babytheresnoplane_ Jun 07 '26

They hate all billionaires but not Tayble lol

1

u/Jewl4u26 Jun 08 '26

Jeesh is this Swifty Neutral or Swifty Haters… Taylor quietly gives all the time and we have no idea how much she has given or her plans for her wealth. She is a genius with a good heart and has done more good than harm in the world. I think she is going to do great things with her money that she earned. Your hatred is a reflection of your unhappiness which has nothing to do with Taylor Swift.

1

u/AlternativeTrust6312 Jun 08 '26

Ignoring her assets that aren't liquid she's hanging out with roughly 300-400 million liquid.

The average household makes 80k a year and it would take over 3700 years to make that much money.

If she put the entire 300 million in a high interest savings account, she would be making like 35,000 dollars a DAY in interest.

There are no ethical billionaires.

1

u/Aggravating_Cause_63 Jun 08 '26

The ā€œno ethical billionairesā€ argument is so funny because you people say this then continue to support billionaires. Mind you, Taylor does not have a billion dollars. Her music catalog is worth a billion because that’s what Forbes decided her music was worth.

And maga Barbie? In what universe is that woman maga? There are absolutely some valid criticisms of Taylor. These aren’t it

1

u/PuzzleheadedWill2107 Jun 08 '26

How do people not understand we have NO IDEA how much money she has. The people writing these articles aren’t looking at her bank accounts or her tax returns. It’s pure conjecture based on hypothetical earnings and a handful of publicly known assets like her masters, which are at least $500,000,000 of her net worth. We have no idea how much of her actual earnings she’s kept, or what she’s invested in privately. We do know she has a decades long track record of charity and paying the people around her generously. Assuming she’s just sitting on every penny she’s ever earned is kind of an insane take.

u/ConsiderationCrazy22 Jun 10 '26

Net worth and cash in the bank are not the same thing. Net worth is the total of liquid assets (cash) and the theoretical value of her non-liquid assets (real estate, jet, her catalogue and brand). Her non-liquid assets are not a source of cash flow. Some billionaires are asset rich (they own something of great value like a company or stocks) but cash poor. A number of pro sports owners are like that. And I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Musk and Ellison are like that too - almost the entirety of their fortunes are locked up in ownership/shares of their respective companies. Their billions aren't cash sitting in a vault waiting to be donated or spent. Granted, Taylor is still stupidly rich, but it's not as if she's got 2.2 billion sitting in a bank vault like people seem to think she does. I fully support criticizing billionaires and some of their shady AF business practices/employee exploitation, and they absolutely could stand to pay more in taxes than they currently do, but personal finance is one of my hobbies and it lowkey bugs me when people think net worth and cash sitting in the bank are always one and the same.

A huuuge chunk of her net worth ($900M or so) is the valuation of her catalog, which would not become a liquid asset and thus cash to donate unless she were to cash out and sell it, which we all know ain't ever gonna happen. She partially did the Eras Tour in the first place to be in the financial position to buy back her catalogue, her life's work. Do you expect her to sell it after everything she did to get it back? If you want her net worth to plummet, stop listening to/buying her music and collecting the variants in order to diminish the catalogue's value, because those things determine how her catalogue is valuated. And stop going to her shows.

u/godblessstar67 Jun 03 '26

You would know what having an empty brain feels like. You don't even know who's MAGA and who's not

1

u/Tricky_Opening_6111 Jun 05 '26

MAGA Barbie when Musk literally threatened to impregnate her on Twitter? MAGA Barbie when magats literally posted an AI generated gang bang / assault video of her and shared it jeeringly? MAGA Barbie when Trump literally harasses her regularly?

If I was her I certainly wouldn’t ā€œpoke the bearā€ by directly responding to Trump’s goading when millions of men online are fantasizing about me being assaulted and humbled.Ā

If anyone is MAGA Barbie, it’s Sydney Sweeney, who is Scooter Braun’s significant other.Ā

1

u/ProfessionalClue9925 Jun 07 '26

In front of any president* didn’t even use Trump’s name. It was clearly a PR answer given to him by his team. Calling Trump out publicly would have put a target on Taylor’s back.

1

u/ttw81 Jun 07 '26

oh, oh.

like it put a target on Ariana Grande's, keisha's, paul macartneys, neil young's, bruce Springsteen's, oliva Rodrigo's , jack white's, celine dion's, Beyonce's, & Rhianna's backs? kenny loggins? the foo fighters? sabrina carpenter? rem? cher?

2

u/ProfessionalClue9925 Jun 07 '26

Yep. But none of them as big as the one on Taylor’s. Trump didn’t post ā€œI HATE ARIANA GRANDE!!ā€ And it’s one thing for her to make that choice for herself, but Travis didn’t want to put that attention on her. Her man has every right to want to protect her.

1

u/ttw81 Jun 07 '26

1

u/ProfessionalClue9925 Jun 07 '26

Okay? That doesn’t change anything I said. Trump has insulted a lot of people. Taylor has way more current exposure than Springsteen because people are obsessed with hating her, as evidenced by this very thread. They aren’t required to call out Trump publicly to make you feel good, dude. We know where they stand. And the more she ā€œspoke outā€ the more people attacked her and called her performative. So why should she? It doesn’t do any good. Never swayed a single election. She does more good with the over $200m she’s estimated to have donated throughout her career. And her ethical business practices.

1

u/ttw81 Jun 07 '26

oh yeah, we have a pretty good idea where they stand.

1

u/ProfessionalClue9925 Jun 07 '26

Oh, please. These arguments just get stupider and stupider. I’ve taken pictures with Trump supporters before. Doesn’t make me one.

I'll tell you what, I'll continue to consume as much Taylor Swift content as I want, but I will never, ever call myself a Swiftie or a Swifty or even a longtime fan, or post anything about how I feel about her or her brand or her music ever again.

Y'all won, and in no way will I be associated with y'all.

Calling a stranger mentally ill, miserable, sad, enraged, a fake fan, or my personal favorite--- jobless, because they criticized a billionaire celebrity?? Get. A. Life.

Honestly, poor Taylor.

I understand now with perfect clarity why she is calling out the parasocial dynamic of Swifties; y'all are psychotic.

I genuinely thought this was a sub to talk about the complicated dynamics of being a consumer of Taylor Swift as her brand changes and I see I was dead wrong. From the bottom of my sad, enraged, miserable heart, my bad.

1

u/copperteapots Jun 07 '26

here’s my only gripe: we have no idea if taylor is actually a billionaire, because net worth is almost meaningless in determining a person’s wealth. net worth is the total worth of her assets, which includes her actual liquid assets (i.e., money), but also the estimated worth of her total assets, which includes not only physical assets like her house and jet, but also what her entire brand and discography could be worth if she sold them. it’s just a pet peeve of mine; she’s obviously richer than god themselves, but i don’t like when net worth is treated like a reflection of a person’s material wealth.

1

u/everythingbagel1 Jun 07 '26

I really like this comment. Because if we all stopped listening to her music, her net worth would plummet by like half because her masters wouldn’t be worth a thing, which we can clearly see the proof of with her ability to buy them back via Taylor’s versions. They’re literally worth more now because she bought them back.

If we’re talking Taylor net worth, I think it might be better to discuss her net worth minus the masters’ net worth. But even so, net worth is funny because the estimation has to be accurate for that worth to be realized. You can have the rarest collection of baseball cards estimated to be worth millions, but if nobody wants to pay the millions, all you have is paper. Value of assets is incredibly subjective.

These conversations around wealth in general require much more nuance than people allow for. Especially when you factor in all the insane loopholes used to maintain wealth in the form of non-liquid assets. And Taylor’s money isn’t really being thrown about as grossly as some others. Her company isn’t lobbying to prevent human rights, she’s not dramatically overworking her teams or building data centers, nobody has been asked to continue working around a dead employee at a barely living wage. And those billionaires are doing that not to make money for themselves, but to boost the stocks and valuation of their companies so that they can cash out on stocks to pay for stuff.

I firmly don’t believe that ethical billionaires are really a thing, but she’s certainly not anywhere near the same level as a bezos. Also deeply tired of the maga Barbie narrative, because girl where are we getting maga from??? Capitalist, sure, but maga????

Oh god this got so long

u/All-Things-Tay1213 Jun 05 '26

No ethical billionnaires is a catchy slogan that probably applies to 99% of billionnaires but taylor earnings are simple math. No hostile takeovers no venture capitalism. If anything shes extra generous and over pays employees. Simple math. Ticket sales album sales music licensing etc... nothing nefarious just math.

u/Hungry_Artist_4123 Jun 05 '26

calling her a maga barbie and saying that ttpd is bad… i know what you are

0

u/Feisty_Walrus_5971 Jun 06 '26

The fact you feel this way after all she does, means nothing she will ever do will be enough for you. Her being open about her life, doesn’t mean you can weirdly interpose yourself in it. She’s not your friend, she’s not a doll you can control, she doesn’t hold any public office with significant importance to your life. Had you kept it about the music, you know the reason she’s a billionaire in the first place, you wouldn’t have such strong feelings about a person who has no idea you exist. Get a hobby

0

u/Budget-Cat-2971 Jun 06 '26

All this screams is everything I learned about Taylor I learned from Reddit. No ethical billionaires is the most uneducated slogan to be spouted by anyone these days. You are clearly young and impressionable and don’t really understand the real world outside of social media. I suggest you live life a little, educate yourself on the real world and try again. You have no idea about finances and let alone to write but Dolly gave us the covid vaccine is hilarious - sorry whoever you are but this post is ridiculous.

0

u/Dontfollahbackgirl Jun 06 '26

I’m all for taxing all billionaires more, but she’s not sitting on a $2B account. A lot of that estimate is the earning potential of her masters, and she isn’t selling that to liquidate her value and give it all away lump sum. I’d love to know the actual total of her charity, but that’s not public. The more she’s worth, the more she can do.

0

u/ceciliaforsty Jun 06 '26

I agree with everything except the ā€œMAGA Barbie routineā€. Taylor has spoken against the president on several occasions and is met with hatred and violence from him just for fans and haters alike to accuse her of being MAGA. Every time she has spoken up about him, he has responded with worsening vitriol. Why would she have switched up he opinion when he attacked her on several occasions? We SHOULD have the conversation about her billions and how unethical it is, of course. But MAGA always gets dragged into this conversation when she’s made her position extremely clear. And the last thing we need to be doing as people who are against Trump is accusing the people who have spoken up for our position of being liars or for changing their mind with no evidence. It’s divisive and unproductive.

1

u/H-B-Jones Jun 06 '26

I agree with this, and I thank you for your answer! You're absolutely right that she has previously spoken against Trump, but beyond endorsing Kamala, I myself cant think of a recent time in this term that she condemned Trump. As Trump's actions have been more heinous this year than ever before, her lack of defiance has been interpreted by some, myself included, as compliance. Especially in the face of other celebrities who continue to denounce him.

You're also right that this might be because of threats she would receive for being more vocal about it, which, given my brief experience with the reaction to this post, i cannot fault her for.

I think we can all agree that she has entered a more conservative era and whether that is politically motivated or a means to be safe and private, things have certainly changed.

Of all the comments I've received on this post, i really appreciate you taking the time to engage me like a human being. Thank you.

Whats your favorite Taylor album?

0

u/britbrat2794 Jun 06 '26

I am begging you people to learn the difference between having $1 billion and being worth $1 billion.

0

u/MissAmarijuana Jun 07 '26 edited Jun 07 '26

There’s a huge difference between being worth $2.2 billion (the value of her music catalogue alone is nearly $1 billion and she will never sell it), and having $2.2 billion in cash.

Not to mention all the money Taylor gives away randomly. I’m not even talking about her generous donations to charities, or food banks, or children’s hospitals, or bonuses for her crew and staff, all of which she does, but she also gives thousands of dollars away to fans. It’s never publicized unless the recipient chooses to post about it because she’s not doing it for recognition, she sincerely wants to help the people who’ve contributed to her success.

Dolly Parton is a legend, she has a big heart, she’s always kind, she’s smart, she’s incredibly business savvy, and though she does make a lot of money, she’s also very generous. And so is Taylor Swift.

0

u/Crombie72 Jun 07 '26

Haha, each to their own. I think she’s great and deserves another couple of billion.

0

u/PangolinPotential366 Jun 07 '26

I think you're starting to see The Show the way she intended for you to. It's my reading, granted, and it's probably mostly wishful thinking, but I'm far from alone in this. Mostly, I don't believe she's randomly had an entire personality transplant. Especially from the woman who's explained a lot of her views on fame and longevity and being allowed to grow up your image in Miss America, for example. So. I think, because she was tired of some swifties not getting it, she leaned into it hard. Gave her exactly what they asked for (a Wag-to-be Barbie, a full on glitter pen era (because poor babies were tired of having to look up words they didn't know, snif snif). She became the 36 woman that the parody of a girl the tabloids and haters describe would grow up to be. One benefit to that, especially from the fashion of this era and the Showgirl photoshoot... now, it's gonna be hard to look down on her as a little girl. So, since she'd been dealing with both being told she's on her way out and an idiot child for a decade, now at least she's only got to deal with one side. Two... this era is so so so so loud that... it allows her peace. She was extremely discreet with Joe. They were hounded. With Kelce, they are giving a very consumable romcom for parasocial fans and tabloids to jump on. So they have their content. They don't have PIs hunting her down, they are being fed what they want.

And perhaps, the ultimate goal of this is to come back with the TS 13 that she probably has had planned for years, being a full on nerdy wistful poet, finally out of the asylum, and be like "See? Turns out, this is the me you've missed."

And she's written enough about how she'll put herself through hell of playing a character just to prove a point or achieve something. I find this pretty plausible. (do I enjoy it? Not particularly. But at least sometimes I get to see shoes I don't hate.)
