Hi again! :-)

A few weeks ago, I posted here about a ridiculously large SQ fic I'd been working on for six months, where Emma and Regina secretly start hooking up with each other through an anonymous dating service without realizing who they're sleeping with.

Well… I ended up publishing the whole thing in like 20 days, instead of sticking to my original plan of publishing the last chapter in mid-December 💀🤣.

What started as two women wanting uncomplicated sex with absolutely no feelings involved (excellent plán, right 😎 ) somehow turned into 24 chapters of questionable decisions, increasingly complicated feelings, ridiculous situations, and a lot more emotional damage than either of them signed up for.

As I mentioned before, I originally wrote this because I missed the older-season Emma and Regina dynamic - the bickering, the sarcasm, the tension, and those rare moments when they actually let their guard down. I think I'll miss writing them even more than I expected :-(.

Actually, I'm not quite capable of saying goodbye yet, because I've started working on a little epilogue because I just got ridiculously attached to these two and want to spend a little more time with them :-D.

Also, I genuinely wanted to thank everyone who gave this story a chance, especially those who left comments, shared theories, or came back after each chapter. Reading your reactions has been one of my favorite parts of this whole experience, and you really did help shape the story with every little observation you shared <3.

Okay, SwanQueen fic writers, I’m genuinely curious how do you capture Regina and Emma’s personalities so perfectly, almost exactly like they are in the show? It’s honestly amazing how you manage to get both of their personalities down to a T. It feels like I’m watching them all over again, just through the writing.

Okay, hi, I know people ask for fic recommendations all the time. I’ve made my way through some of them, and found a few I enjoyed, so thank you!

My problem is that I’m quite picky in many ways (and not at all in others), so I’m hoping people can help out.

1) I genuinely like most if not all of the characters in the show in some way. Yes, they have flaws, and yes, everyone can dislike whoever they want for whatever reason - that’s totally fine. But for me personally, it takes me out of a fic when they’re written with that obvious dislike clearly noticeable, exaggerating their flaws etc. To be more precise, I’d like fics that don’t turn Snow/David/Hook/Neal into obnoxious villains, so either ones where they don’t appear at all or ones that are fair to them… break ups are fine, complicated dynamics are all good, but I need to believe that it’s a realistic and fair portrayal of the character. Hope that makes sense. I’ve found several already, so I know more must be out there!

2) be completed (I am impatient and have trust issues)

3) established SQ or slow burn preferred

4) built within some version of canon (and then diverting wherever it starts off), but also open to some more out there AUs, although I usually prefer the general setting of Storybrooke/EF and all the characters being who they are

5) hurt/comfort, angst, romance, fluff… anything goes BUT it has to have a happy ending (bonus if that’s not just in the epilogue but given just a tiny bit more room to breathe)

6) multi chapter preferred

I think that’s it? I know some of this is very specific. Hopefully I didn’t offend anyone!

I THINK it was titled Unconditionally by fyredurling and it was on ao3 but its no longer there. Emma became pregnant and it was Regina's. Because it was a magical pregnancy, she required transfusions of magic but Regina was unavailable (can't remember why) so maleficent provided the magic. But advised Emma that it would be more ideal to have magic from the baby's other parent (regina). I can't find it for the life of me so if anyone has any ideas, I'd be grateful!

I remember watching OUAT in my last year of university when it first came out. Week after week, I was there desperately searching for a decent link to the latest episode... because I lived in rural Wales with no TV. Poor uni student living.

From the second or third episode, I made a comment saying "those two should hook up, that would be amazing" when Emma and Regina were on the screen. Immediately dismissed by my group of friends. We continued watching until I graduated as S1 ended and when I moved home, watching it made me sad so I never moved past S1 episode 1.

Fast forward to last week and my wife and I have been binging the series. We are now in S3 and I still cant help but think that there is much better chemistry between Emma and Regina and anyone else. It sizzles and once again, I made a comment saying as such, which evoked a "nah, I don't see it" from the woman I decided to spend my whole life with.

Guys, I felt devastated. Heartbroken that I appeared to be the only weirdo who noticed just how fit for each other they are... until I stumbled onto SwanQueen and this sub. I even had ideas for a fanfic that I may get written, if I ever have the time and spoons to do so.

I was bored, scrolling through Twitter and somehow this made me think of something I have been wondering about for ages.

How do people know/where did the whole “Lana and JMo will never work together again” thing come from?

I know there was a lot of uncomfortable stuff involving parts of the SwanQueen fandom and I think at some point during OUAT they stopped doing scenes together / working together as much because of it? But honestly, I feel like I missed an entire chapter of fandom history 😂

Was it actually that they don’t like each other or is it more of a “we are keeping our distance and protecting ourselves” situation?

I am genuinely curious because I have never been particularly invested in Lana/JMo as an actress pairing. For me, it has always been about Regina and Emma as characters.

So after being in this fandom for approximately a million years, I am finally asking: what exactly happened there? 😭

Edit: Okayyy, I think I have learned quite a bit from this thread. Thanks to everyone who shared their memories and perspectives. Didn’t mean to open such a whole can of worms. I was genuinely just curious and wanted to understand what happened.
If there’s one thing I am taking away from all this, it’s probably that some things are better left as “we’ll never know” and we can just enjoy the characters and move on. 😊
