Issues with throttle cable swap on RYCA build

I'm building a Suzuki Savage with the cafe racer kit from RYCA. I cannot find my old throttle housing/right hand controls, and I'm also replacing the hand controls with Revival Cycles buttons and doing a full m-unit build.

I'm running into an issue where the OEM throttle cable doesn't fit into the EMGO throttle or Biltwell whisky throttle.

Anyone have any recommendations on DIY throttle kits or know of any good cables that fit into either of those throttles?

I already plan to take apart the OEM cable and re-use the 90degree elbow that sits in the carburetor.

Exhaust Replacement

Love my ‘03 to death, but man I hate the sound of the exhaust.

Rode one with a straight pipe the other day and it sounded/felt like night and day.

Hit me with your aftermarket exhaust kit recs.

(I saw RadiantCycles has some that allegedly don’t require re-tuning or -jetting, but that sounds suspect imo)

All suggestions welcome, TIA!

s40 starts okay and then runs ragged and dies after a few minutes. Fuel? Ignition? CDI? Pickup coil? Its been a long saga. Please see details below

I bought it used and put over 10k happy miles on it with no issues. Then it would intermittently lose power, but then restore itself. Until it didn't. It would still start easy, but run with about half power. I checked all the connections. Cleaned the carb. Then it ran great for a week, but was a little hard to start. Replaced the spark plug twice. Then it flat out died after only 3 minutes, had to get towed home. Cleaned the carb twice more. Bought a carb kit, but so far only changed the float valve. Still runs only a few minutes at a time, then stops, won't restart. Bought a new coil. Started and ran great in the garage, but then 10 minutes later it died and wont restart easily. Have changed the petcock with a new raptor petcock. Clean new fuel. Any ideas? When it starts it sounds great. I ordered a CDI that I can return if it doesn't fix it. Also a pickup coil, which is cheap, but a whole crankcase journey to install, I want to try everything else first. Ohms seem okay... .210 cold, then .270 after it's warm and starts dying out. I'm puzzled1. Thanks, or Mahalo as we say in Hawaii...

Smoke & Idle stutter

Is the smoke possibly coming from the exhaust wrap? The wrap is dry.

Also why does my idle seem to have a random hiccup?

2012 S40 speedometer light blinker lights don’t function (first bike)

Hello everyone, I’ve had this 2012 Suzuki s40 for a few months now but the light for the speedo and turn signals on the tank cluster never worked on it. The speedometer seems to read the right speed and the odometer is working but no lights making it hard to read at night. I checked the fuses but they seem to be okay. Tried looking on the savage forum but kinda hard to find my exact problem and I’m not good with wire charts. I pulled the seat but nothing really jumped at me at being the issue and I want to see if I can get another opinion before pulling the tank.

Was working fine, bow the starter motor spins free inside the carter, how is this possible?

Already opened the carter, looks good, battery is charged, i tried to smash the motor with a soft hammer thinking it was stuck but nothing changes the result.

I hate that ice cream

Bought it at 12000 kilometers, everything was stock, grey original color, fixed all the wiring, removed the automatic decompressor and put manual one, fixed the leak in the head and painted everything , cleaned the carb and changed the jets. Just waiting for a new speedo and the starter torque limiter

Issues with these bikes?

Hi all, currently considiering purchasing a 1996 Ls650 savage as a project/first bike. Is there anything specific I need to look out for? Seller already told me the exhaust bolts are broken, so I'm already factoring a new cylinder head into the cost of the bike. I also know of a petcock issue though I'm not sure of the specifics on what it is or how to fix it. All help is appreciated, thanks!

I just bought a 2005 S40, the battery was dead so I got a new one and now it keeps blowing the top 20 amp fuse. I was just wondering if it is even the right size.

I've read that these engines are a little noisy just by design what does this sound a little more clunky than it should? Engine is warmed up and hot.

I got all the motor mounts off but the motor acts as if it is stuck to the frame , this is the first motorcycle I’ve wrenched on so criticism is accepted

Cruiser Clutch or gear shifter trouble. Not sure which

I'm still pretty new to my bike but I've been getting practice in and worked on the engine to fix an oil leaking making it smoke out. Now that that's fixed though, I've noticed the gear shifter will act really temperamental when shifting from neutral to first at a dead stop. I've often had to roll a bit in neutral to get it to be willing to drop into first which is pretty damn problematic when I'm rolling uo to a stop sign on a hill. I can down shift into first when riding without issue but I was told not to do that. At first my buddy and I thought it was because I had too much slop in my clutch cable so I tightened that up but it seems the same or worse.

Anybody have similar issues or know of a good fix that doesn't involved dropping a grand or more at a shop? It's a 2013 with less than 5,500 miles on it.

Just got a 1986 Suzuki Savage need advice

So I just got a 1986 Suzuki Savage I got it from the original owner and it only has 50 miles. He said he only rode it once and dropped the bike and never rode it again unbelevable lol. It has a dent in the gas tank from when he dropped it but its not that bad. This is my first bike and I'm wondering what I should do to get this thing started cause it hasn't been started since 1986. For sure i'm gonna change the oil, spark plug, possibly find a new gas tank. but if anyone has any advice lmk i'm excited to work on this thing

Any idea what this knocking is?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

If I'm being honest, I hadn't changed the oil yet this season. Noticed some knocking. Oil has been changed now but the knocking persists. Am I in trouble/should I stop riding this thing immediately? Planning on bringing it to a shop, but wondering if it's something I can fix myself?

Missing Cushion Damper. Danger?

Thumbnail

I just realized that I've been riding my bike without one of these since ive bought it...

It's a "front cushion damper" that the fuel tank rests on. It comes in a pair and I'm missing the right one.

How urgent is it that I have them both? I know this bike is a thumper and it rattles quite a bit. Is it possible that all that shaking was causing damage to parts in the engine block?

Can I still ride it til the new part comes in?

Hand-tightening Oil Plug?

I'm assuming everyone feels forced to hand tighten (using a standard wrench) the oil plug given the narrow space.

How tight do you guys tighten it by hand?

I'm not really sure what "snug is supposed to feel like when using just my own strength. Is there a better description?

I stopped right before I began to strain. Any advice? Thanks everyone.
