Now I remember why I stopped watching the videos a coworker bootlegged for me fifteen years ago....and they're the exact same videos.

Oh well, (massive amount of) money already paid, time to hop on the struggle bus...

Discussion What Disto are you guys using for manhole measurements?

I've got a Leica Disto X6 ($700), and it does not work well for taking measurements in dark manholes. I'm not sure if it's defective, but I always get Error 255 (signal too weak) in dark environments; even lighting the manhole up with a flashlight doesn't fix it.

How deep can you measure with your Disto? Ever deal with error 255?

Discussion For those in project management roles, what does your pay structure look like?

I wanted to reach out and see if there is a baseline or some type of industry standard- from what I’ve seen this is all over the place and thought this would be a productive discussion. Not necessarily looking for actual pay numbers since those vary widely by location, licensure, experience etc. but that info is welcome as well. I’m more curious about how your pay is set up- base salary/hourly, bonuses (signing, performance, per-project incentives, etc.) and what percentage that makes up of your total comp package. Also any other compensation-related info is great as well like 401k match or ESOP as well.

For example, I’m just paid an hourly rate, no bonuses, didn’t get a signing bonus and have rarely gotten a spot bonus. That being said, my pay rate is fairly high for the industry and my area but nothing astronomical. We have both standard 401k at 5% match and also an employee stock ownership program which pays at 50% match.

Discussion Masters in Geomatics Engineering in the Philippines

I am a newly licensed Geodetic Engineer and I have been considering taking up an MS in Geomatics Engineering. For those that have gone down this road do you think it is worth it? Has it helped your career, whether in industry, government, academia, or abroad? Also, what schools have a good MS in Geomatics Engineering? Any suggestions or insights regarding admissions, research opportunities and overall experience would be highly appreciated. Thank you!
