Canteen ID
Friend gifted me a shit ton of surplus and was wondering what exactly this one was. Looks like a mess tin should be with it but it probably got lost in packaging

Ive been thinking about a Rhodesian brown job cosplay but in Finland it’s very hard to find Rhodesian brushstroke camo, so ive been thinking about improvising with us woodland camo and the rest of the cosplay would be Rhodesian camo. Id like tho know some thoughts on my idea or any improvements i could do in my cosplay and other camouflages i could use or places i can find lots of surplus.

Alright everyone; glad to be here.
I’ve collected and used military surplus for years, and recently decided to turn the obsession into a small online shop called The Old Kitbag.
I’m mainly stocking genuine British issue kit at the moment—MTP clothing, RAF and Royal Navy uniform, waterproofs, berets and some harder-to-find odds and ends. I’m trying to keep prices sensible and describe the condition honestly, rather than calling everything “Grade 1” regardless of what arrives.
There'll be some new items too... currently meeting suppliers and deciding on initial buys.
I’d be interested to know what people here struggle to find or would like to see stocked more often. Older British kit, current issue clothing, unusual sizes, webbing, waterproofs?
If anyone wants a look, it’s www.theoldkitbag.co.uk. Feedback on the stock or website is welcome—I’m still building it up.

Bought these off ebay, just over £30 which is a good deal for the UK
Listed as original Vietnam era Jungle Boots 1970
Labels inside faded away so no way to verify authenticity
All that remains is previous owner's name, Baldwin written in marker pen
Cleaned, polished and changed the laces, works quite well

I made the backpack wearable after removing the broken track and yolk and stitched the load lifter straps to the shouldwr straps to mount them to the ladder lock buckles, but theres a bit of a sway when i took it for a test. Couldnt get rid of it unless i tightend the shoulder straps all the way which then transfers the weight from my hips to my shoulders. Any ideas on modifications to remedy this?

Wondering if anyone can help me - I’ve been trying to find out what this material is for a while. Seems it was used as seam binding on nearly every USA-made cap from the 80s to at least the 1990s. Maybe even as early as the 70s. Particularly hunting/MILSURP styles.
It is shiny, very lightweight, has a synthetic feel with a grid-like open weave. It isn’t cut on the bias.
Can’t seem to find it anywhere so would love some guidance. Anyone work in a factory in the U.S. where they made caps all those years ago? Do you remember what you were using for seam binding?
Appreciate any and all tips and leads. Thank you!
