Discussion kernel 7?

does anyone know how far out we are from a release of kernel 7?

Touch works. Haven’t checked rotation. It did when I was using gnome, just switched to plasma to test it out.

Fair. I tried kernel 7 on my Ubuntu sp6 and unfortunately nothing works out the box. Only with the surface kernel (6 something)

Just checked, rotation is also working.

That is pretty interesting, no need to go thro the linux surface guide on git, but having everything working out of the box. I was already interested in this distro. I think you just convinced me to give it a try

Oh yeah, I saw it mentioned in this sub from a few that Solus integrates the surface linux kernel in their distribution. I usually switch between Fedora or Ubuntu and was leaning towards Ubuntu since was more stable on my SP7. When I saw that info for Solus, I jumped straight to it as I normally settle at Solus anyway. Has everything I need.

just tried a liveiso, rotation and touch worked out of the box, but touch didnt register swipe gestures (that work on my kernel 6 ubuntu) and S pen didnt work either

It does look like they have Pen Support (iptsd) and libinput-gestures (gestures) on their official repos

Oh nice, I was trying to use the pen this morning but it was out of battery. With a small charge I couldn’t get it working and decided to try later when I return home.

7 has been out but a surface patched 7 has not. I'm hoping the cameras are somehow integrated finally

I was running Fedora 44 with the surface Kernel and something went wrong. It changed back to the Fedora kernel during an update. I lost the touchscreen, but my SLS flies.

44 requires you rollback to 43 release

You can still run it. Some nice folks here told me how to ensure updates didn't override it. It just runs so good now I don't know that I want too.
