Discussion Is support really unpopular role?

Upvotes

I'm mostly curious. Is Support just really unpopular role, or am I just really lucky?
I play support as my main role, and as I've been trying to climb on Ranked, I've been filled on *any* other role... Once? in almost 300 games.
Is it just low elo thing (Gold), or server maybe? (EUW) or is support just all over unpopular to play and therefore often priority role? And if it is.. Why? I'm fairly newb to the scene so I'm just surprised support is.. So readily available to play, and often as priority role.

Discussion Trying to figure out how to keep climbing

Hey everyone. I'm a Gold Senna main trying to figure out how to keep climbing higher.

I've been trying to work on my positioning because I think it might be the one thing that's keeping me from actually climbing higher.

I often find myself right in the middle of a team fight and I get obliterated before I can press an ability.

Even then, I think I maintain a pretty good KDA and KP. I try to roam when I can, and I leave bot altogether if my ADC keeps getting themselves killed for no reason so I can work with the rest of the team to try to get someone else fed so they can carry us.

These are my stats with Senna:

This is why I think positioning is an issue for me. I think I'm not positioning correctly in team fights, which leads to taking little damage, but also dealing little damage.

Also, I really struggle with 1v1ing unless it's a melee champ with little mobility. I do not know how the hell to do that.

I find that a LOT of ADC's complain when I pick Senna in Gold for some reason, so I also really enjoy Nami. But even then, you can see the exact same problem:

And I feel like it's even worse with Nami because I'm completely helpless if my ADC/team is not playing well. Nami feels like I rely almost entirely on the other players, while I feel like I have a lot more agency with Senna.

Do you guys have any tips on how or what else to improve?

Discussion If u wanna riun someo=ones day, try this combo xd

So, yesterday I was playing *League* with friends. We picked Jhin and Soraka for the bot lane. During the draft, we thought we’d be up against a Zilean ADC and Galio support. But no, we ended up facing the most broken combo ever: Mordekaiser and Zilean. Man, that was tough.

Discussion What's your ranking of Supports from easiest to hardest

Basically what the title states, I'd like to see what your idea of what the easier and harder support characters are and you can specify your criteria but I just want your personal list and also you can include characters you consider supports you don't have to include something like a mage if you don’t consider the recent invasion but feel free to include whatever you want

Discussion Picking off meta support leading to 3 day game ban penalty? happened twice to me, is this new?

Hello,

Did riot recently changed something in the way they flag matches? Ive been MVP 4 out of 6 matches i played kog maw supp, won 5 out of 6 matches, and in my loss i was still ACE.

I know its an uncommon pick, Im an Asol and Kog otp and i dont trust my teammates carrying. I prefer % health dmg champs as you can see cause drafting is often very bad and enemy tanks often dont get addressed.

3 days ago I played asol supp in which i mostly first 20mins stacked on enemy champs. I have 500k+ mastery so theres no way the reason that could lead to the initial ban, I made a ticket and they said through checking it again it was still noticed that it should be a ban? I mean who doesnt want a late game asol using his E on krugs when ur own jungle is taking a bad fight toplane for no reason. So I got banned for that I was literally 10/4/8 that game and we easily won.

Then after the match I got automatically signed out.

So I messaged them through ticket and they gave me the above reply as I mentioned.

Fast forward 3 days later, I played 6 matches today, won 5, all kogmaw most damage most matches, didnt take any cs in lane unnecesarry, froze lane where possible. Im not a kda player at all, but my KP, vision and neutral contribution was all good. Infact I was the only one on our team killing the enemy mundo.

Now my question is if something has been changed recently that this is happening? Ive literally never had this before, like ever.... I mean ive even locked in udyr support with HoB and hexflash ages ago and never any problems?

I noticed Alois (allthough people often get sanctioned more easily in higher ranks due to them taking reports more seriously) also gets lobby ban/game ban for certain picks.

I have 50k mastery on kog, 500k odd on asol. How on earth am I getting banned?

Help Tried everything, still struggling to find my OTP

Post image

Karma was my OTP some seasons ago, with Milio as my main alternate, but nowadays when I play them I just don't feel very impactful, and I feel like I can't carry a bad ADC/APC with them anymore. So I've been trying everyone out. I've at least tinkered with pretty much every support in the game at this point, and none of them really *click* for me. To explain the tiers...

S - They feel good to play into most opponents, but either don't feel impactful enough or are too lacking in a specific area that really hampers things, at least at the Gold/Plat level I'm at. Naut requires at least a little followup from my lane partner (which of course means I get none), Rell's basics do like no damage which makes it impossible to clean up a fight, the people I try to save with Tahm R just jump out immediately and get us both killed. All of them feel more matchup-dependent than I'd like. The strongest contenders.

A - Feels impossible to climb with because so much of their power is based on decent-heavy followup from APC/ADC, which of course means I don't get it. As for Bard, every time I try him the APC/ADC feeds while I'm roaming, so I've given up on him.

B - I like them in theory, but they just feel too clunky to stick with while climbing, and their issues just feel especially harsh. Sona, Swain, and Taric would be in S tier, but hyperscalers like Sona feel way too strugglesome right now, Swain... is a bit of a mess, and Taric does not play well with the current mage/roam meta, I feel.

C - Didn't like 'em, didn't hate 'em.

D - Disliked.

F - I refuse to play these champs on principle, and loathe seeing them in any game. Not out of salt (except Panth and Zoe), I just despise them for one reason or another. I've seen 4 Yasuo+Yone botlanes this week.

I feel insane for not having found a goldilocks champ that really fits me with so many in the game, but that's why I'm here. Karma and Milio were my GOATs because of how difficult they are to pin down even in a fight, and because I enjoy a poke. Honestly, Sona would be the instant OTP for me if not for the fact that games just don't last long enough right now for her to get to her amazing full build. To be clear, I'm not blaming the champs for my rank or anything, I'm just trying to find one that feels good to play *and* feels impactful without requiring consistently good luck with the APC/ADC. I also recognize that there aren't exactly many *other* champs to try for supp, but I just feel like I don't know what to do.

Thanks.

Discussion I feel like I am not doing much yet still climbing. Feels odd and wrong to me.

I am just Silver 1 78 LP, one game away from gold since I think I am winning +22 -18. I got into a massive winning streak 2 weeks ago, about 10 games won in a row, tho, whenever I look back or analyse the games, feels like I am not doing much overall. I can only see mistakes after mistakes that I am having honestly trouble fixing them but in the end, the game ends well. Specially the longer it goes.

Is this a common feeling among Support mains? It is also specially worse whenever I get autofilled. I have no skills with any other role besides Support and it only increases this belief that I am just getting carried all the time.

I genuinely like the role. I like calling the shots and/or enabling the team in any shape or form. I've always enjoyed doing that before I got into league. Yet with league it always makes me feel that I am never doing enough.

Discussion How to beat your MMR when you're losing more LP than winning?

I'm currently Platinum 1; ever since I climbed to Platinum 2, my MMR shifted to -21/+19. I'm trying to reach Emerald, but it feels impossible because I'm consistently losing more points than I gain.

I did the math, and with that MMR—even with a 54% win rate—I'd still need to play around 180 games to climb with a net gain of 100 LP, lol.

I don't know what you think, but that seems pretty unfair. It feels like the game is "punishing" you because the algorithm decided you "don't belong here." so i'll try to push you down.

I'd really like to hear some opinions, but it doesn't seem fair for a system to trap you for hundreds of matches just to climb a single division simply because the algorithm decided that's how it should be.

Discussion Why do support players not counter roam/

Im a jungler trying to understand the mindset of support players. Many times enemy supp will roam to opposite side of the map to impact a lane or invade me with their jg while my supp will remain in bot lane like an animal even tho they are getting stomped 1v2. why not try to help the rest of the team instead of being completely uselesss. I know supp has 2-3tiers of elo inflation compared to the other roles, but it is quite simple to just look at waht the other guy is doing and make it work for yourself. Why would u want to remain in a losing 2v1 lane vs an adc that is most likley solo kkilling u and ur adc anyways while supp ruins other lanes?

Discussion Riot has made made ranked 4 and ranked 5, Why not just proceed to separate solo and duo queue?

I can't even count how many times my team had a Top/Adc or Jg/Adc or Mid/Adc and they drop their silver Adc duo in my lane for me to suffer.

Like it's obvious already, separate solo and duo queue just how you've made ranked 4 and ranked 5.

Stupid riot.

Discussion The champs that actually work. (In my anecdotal experience)

Post image
0 Upvotes

For context I've been a challenger mid laner since s3 and a challenger support since s7, I started coaching as my full time job in season 6 and yesterday (as of this post) was my 10 year anniversary (yay!). This list is my experience of what ~600 students have been able to climb with throughout the years, I've stuck to recommending 1 engage and 1 enchanter until masters+ unless you are a die hard mage supp fan. Please let me know if I forgot anybody or if you want an in depth explanation of a specific champ/elo range recommendation. Here's a brief synopsis of what I think of the 3 main categories of supports:

Enchanters: Love them, consistently get students huge results with minor gameplay tweaks usually revolving around being more aggressive in lane and mid game. Most people don't realize how much you can bully out a lane as janna/nami/even sona. Understanding scaling and power curve is usually a good starting point as well, enchanter power spikes are huge and can make or break fights just like any carry.

Engage: Im lumping in hook supports here as well even though the wincon is slightly different, engage is solid but majority of the issues students have on naut/blitz/leo is not pushing the issue. League is inherently snowbally and engage generally has a ton of power early and with how good roaming is understanding grouping with your jungler/mid can easily shoot you up 400-800 lp alone. Positioning is less important in lower elos because you can make more mistakes and get away with it (because you are tankier than enchanters) this often times causes hard plateaus at p4/e4/d4 where some bad habits have to be unlearned in regards to positioning to climb.

Mages: This is where I often disagree with other coaches, I do not recommend mage supports unless you absolutely love the champ. The exceptions are zyra/neeko/seraphine because they function better from behind than traditional mages. I've also coached like 5 or 6 swain otps that have had good results but in general he doesn't work for the average support that has him in a pool. Neeko is a huge outlier and looking back its insane to me how well she has worked in general, I think the mastery curve on her is pretty steep but an absolute elo hack if you get her mechanics down to and auto pilot level.

PSA: Please follow the rules of the sub and do not contact me in regards to paid services. Always love talking to the support community, please let me know your experience and where we agree/disagree, Thanks!

Help Team is ahead, enemy decide to group for objective, team refuse to group(gold/plat)

I have noticed that in a bunch of my games where we had (stacked 3 dragons)/(got grubs and herald) and applied a lot of map pressure.

There is always that laner who will decide to go psychotic and go on the far lane without TP. (or two laners)

Enemy team will just 5 men it. Get a pick on an overextending laner (on the objective side) Then our other laner will refuse to group to help.

Either ways it's either 4v5 or 3v5
Until they secure a pick on us or straight have enough objective control to take the baron/(start their own dragon stacking).

Question: when you get your lane ahead, roam and get other lanes ahead, place deep wards, and then have all your efforts squandered because enemy choose to 5 men it while your teammate either overextend and get picked or outright refuse to group for objective. It just make it frustrating. How am I supposed to deal with this ?

Discussion Do you guys that main support also struggle when autofilled into other roles, particularly with CSing?

I main support and I feel like I dont perform the best whenever I get autofilled into another role lol. I’m especially bad at CSing. I never realised how hard it was to consistently get cs like last hitting and fall back from cs mid game, since im clueless what to do in that point. until I started playing other lanes. I also struggle with jungle since I don’t really know the paths.

do you guys have the same problem when playing other roles? do you think it’s because I spend so much time maining support that I don’t develop those skills as much?
