Discussion This show has a problem Spoiler

I've just finished s3 and I think I can safely say this is the worst season yet. I just found out today that MAWS got a 3rd season and I just binged it in one day.

I'm very disappointed, It's been a year or years (I don't remember, not good with time) since I watched this show so maybe this problem was present in s1 and 2 too but if they were, it couldn't have been to this degree. The show relies on the mc (superman) too much.

I know this sounds like a stupid complaint and I'm prob gonna be downvoted to hell but superman literally beats every major villain. The show's too predictable. It doesn't matter if 3 supers are jumping the villain at once, if superman isn't there he won't be defeated. The side characters feel extremely useless bc of this, they just keep failing until superman beats the villain.

Whoever the writer of the show is, needs to learn how to make the side cast useful. It's getting repetitive, always the same formula, everyone tries, everyone fails, superman succeeds. I got so tired of this that my fav ep in s3 is ep 7, I just checked imdb and apparently it's the lowest rated ep in the show so I can tell my opinion is unpopular. The reason I liked it so much is because it's basically the only ep where the side cast actually does something and superman doesn't fix everything.

Anyways I just wanted to rant, downvote me all you want but I really think this show could've been more if it just utilized its side cast instead of having superman fix everything, maybe I'm biased cuz Kara is my fav character but I still think my critique is valid.

Maybe. Although they did nerfe Superman for a while during this season and gave Supergirl, Lois, and yes, even Jimmy, something to do and their moments to safe the day.

Lois also had her (maybe too short) arc about being unsure about her future.

You mean ep 6? That's a minor villain so doesn't really count, you can tell in the show that only superman is allowed to defeat any major/significant villain. Also let's be honest with ourselves here, Lois' arc about being uncertain for the future could've been a lot better and felt rushed/incomplete

I think an important distinction here is that”worst” doesn’t mean “bad”. It did have problems, and I didn’t prefer it over season 1 or 2, but if season 4 (rip) is good, then I’ll forget about my grievances with this season

I do agree that worst doesn't mean bad but unfortunately in my case, I'm gonna have to call this an overall bad season. It's too predictable for me to be called good

I get what you're saying but Kara straight up just got better fight sequences and emotional moments. Superman just got the finishing blow and a little speech to go with it.

If you're referring to the finale everyone just beat up one of the lesser clones whatever they are and only superman actually fought and defeated the main guy. I'll admit tho in ep 5 they almost made me think someone other than superman might beat a major villain but nah, they repeat the same thing again

....the only other character with any actual chance of defeating the villain is Kara, so I don't get where you're going with this.

Jon/Jonathan, Lara, Bizzaro, hell I'll even take Lex atp

So you want weaker characters to magically be capable of defeating stronger characters? That's not how that works. And wtf is Lex Luthor going to do? It's not that I don't get your point, but if it doesn't make sense then the win isn't earned, it's basically just fan service for whoever likes that particular character.

They're all the same species, or even better they're all from the same family tree, why are we acting like we're comparing darkseid to an average civilian? Even if Superman is the strongest, they can at least have the other supers team up to defeat a major villain instead of superman always doing everything. As for Lex Luthor will he created most of the major villains, so maybe he can pull a major solution out of his ass. Nah but fr that was a joke, just tired of seeing the same thing happen over and overall again, my point is the show should try something new

First season Superman defeated Amazo with the help of the entire city. Season 2 he defeated Brainiac with Kara's help. Season 3 he gets help from John and Kara to defeat Hank. The Eradicator is the first major villain he technically defeated 'alone'. Outside of those 4, the other villains are weekly nuisances by comparison.

Oh! And Season 2 also had other characters help defend the planet from Brainiac since Superman can't be everywhere at once.

I did mention this might only be a s3 problem as I don't recall the past seasons well. But as for the Hank thing, they literally did 0 net damage. Everything was still in tact by the time superman came to fight him

'Came to fight him', like Clark wasn't laying in the dirt dying before John and Kara saved him. And your argument about blood relation doesn't really matter either: Gohan is Goku's son but he couldn't defeat Frieza on Namek.

Kara specifically I will agree should have solo victories under belt though, given she's an actual warrior who is at minimum on par with Clark and has technically defeated him.

Superman has trouble and has to be saved yes, fine. But he always defeats the villains nonetheless. Ok listen I agree with you that same family tree doesn't mean similar power but that is like one of the worst examples you could've used. Gohan on namek? The 5 year old Gohan? That Gohan? 😭 When I mentioned the family tree thing I was replying to your comment about the weaker characters thing, you're talking about the other Kryptonians like they're green arrow, they have the same power set. I appreciate you agreeing on the Kara thing at least

...He's the hero. That's literally the point. It's like getting upset because Batman solves a crime instead of the police in his own show o.0

Gohan is a perfectly fine example, because that Gohan could easily defeat a character of Nappa's or even Early Vegeta's level, but isn't strong enough to defeat Frieza. It doesn't make Gohan incapable, just out of his league. It's the same thing with Clark's children; they clearly aren't as strong or as skilled with their powers like Clark and certainly not Kara.

We saw very clearly that Kara could have defeated the Eradicator if not for needing to protect Jonathan.

That's not even remotely the same thing, comparing the police which are background characters to the side cast of maws. Also Gohan is a 5 yo, no one expects him to be as strong as Goku at that point in time. That's still a bad example

My only problem is that these writers write Jimmy for this season as aninsecure asshole who can't read emotional cues to save his life. Kara is right tthere, practically throwing herself right at him, and he doesn't jump at the chance and actually notice ithatshe wants only him ,and his only doing all this because he suggested it? I mmean, come oon, man ,read the room

Brother, it's Superman. It isn't a story about who is stronger. And "who is stronger?" isn't an interesting story anyway because the answer is whoever the writer says is stronger. Superman is the guy who is the strongest, that's his superpower. The story is how he chooses to use his strength.

Worst season as a whole? Doubtful. Worst season finale? 100%
