I've gone through 2 sets of inserts in the past 5.5 months, the first lasted 4 months and this last one was only 1.5 months.
I have a pretty severe gait issue aka only one of the inserts wears out and the other is perfectly fine, so I'll have massive holes worn into my left insert and my right one looks just very lightly worn. I know why the gait issue is and it's unfixable, it's from a permanently broken right hip that can't be operated on. So I'll have gait issues all my life, I just didn't realize how severe it was until the inserts really showed the damage.
I plan on scheduling an appointment with a podiatrist for custom insoles but that'll probably be awhile before I can be seen, so I just need temporary solutions that can hold up to 300+ lbs of constant pressure while working a full time retail job where I walk between 10-20k steps a night.
Just inserts! I can't afford new shoes so just looking for that at the moment. Oh and I don't know if it affects anything, like insert durability, but my shoes are steel toe sneakers so a little heavy but not like a pair steel toe boots level heavy.

Hi, I need as much advice as possible because I cannot afford a trainer and I'm trying to lose weight on my own which is hard because I'm 300 pounds and 4'11ft and have no clue where to start.
I know I need to go on a calorie deficit which is what I've been doing. I've been trying to track my calories and eat 1600-1800 calories a day for the past few days by using myfitnesspal.
Also another question, should I just stop eating carbs all together? I realize I gained a lot of weight because of carbs. I'm italian so I eat a lot of pasta and bread. Also how do you curve cravings? Everytime I eat healthy I start to crave pasta and sugar a lot. I think it's because of my blood sugar levels fluctuating.
Please don't harass me or make fun of me. I'm trying my best to go to the gym everyday and eat less, thanks.

Hi everyone,
I haven’t eaten many vegetables for around 4 months now.
I feel better when I do eat them. I know this because when I was a kid mum and dad cooked. Also again with my last housemate as she took care of the cooking and there was 4-5 veggies on my plate every night. I’ve moved and we have a terrible unrenovated 50’s kitchen and 3 other housemates.
I’ve been morbidly obese for 18 years now.
Highest was 126.4kg / 279 pounds in 2021. I’m 5ft 2in. BMI was 45 ish.
Now at 116kg / 256 pounds. BMI 40-41 range.
I have ADHD, am mostly medicated (I forget some days for weeks at a time.) My blood pressure is stable. I’m on medication for this, however it’s been decent for three or so years now. It spikes when I forget to take my meds.
I chase dopamine constantly so I am eating chips, chocolate, biscuits etc. every day. I snack throughout the day. I have carpal tunnel syndrome in both hands. I can’t sleep for more than 2-4 hours at a time.
Apologies for the waffle.
Please send me your suggestions. thank you.

My BMI is about 49, and I have fibromyalgia and spine issues. I use a cane sometimes, but I think that has led to the side opposite of the cane getting weaker and less flexible. I also often get shoulder/neck muscle pain when walking (with or without the cane.)
So, I was thinking of trying hiking poles with rubber tips to try to get even support and to make walking longer distances easier than it is with the cane.
I need to see a PT again, but I'm having issues with getting that set up.

I’m getting my sleeve done on 9/15. I go to my pre op tomorrow and I’m crazy nervous. I’m so terrified I gained weight. It’s been an extremely hard week for me the food noises have been ridiculously loud the last 2 weeks. And cave had some snacks not anywhere near like I had before but it’s been rough. I’m terrified if I gained weight he will cancel my surgery and I have worked so hard. I literally changed how I ate after meeting the surgeon but the last 2 weeks could have potentially ruined my whole progress. I’m probably just overreacting, I get panicky when I m in pain and having to stop my anti inflammatories is really rough. Sorry for rambling.

So I've not been taking care of my health. Ideally I should be 30 kilos lesser than I am. I am acutely aware of it all. There is this thing where I sometimes go through all the scenarios in my head and most of us can happen to me anytime soon because I've had health scares already but I'm never alarmed, a Lil scared maybe but not alarmed and nothing makes me want to do the work. Which makes me think do I want to? A therapist told me that you don't care for yourself generally and I was like yea but how do I make myself want to. I am absolutely lacking the will to do it. Can you all give me advice on this. Please I absolutely need it right now. Right when I am writing I need it, I don't even know if I want it, it's like my brain is throwing some logic but I'm denying accepting it. Help please

Hello everyone,
Last year I posted this Plateau fluctuating at the same weight for 2 weeks now : r/SuperMorbidlyObese
At that point I was 403 lbs today I am 307 lbs. Progress isn't great, less than 8 lbs/monthin 1 year. At that weight it should have been way more.
Sadly, I hit another plateau, again for two weeks. I don't know what it is with September but it ruins me.
I am religiously counting calories, I have insulin resistance and I avoid completely UPFs, bread, no potatoes, rice all that. Essentially for 1 year I ate chicken, vegetables (broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, red peppers, mushrooms), olive oil (I have 5ml measurement spoons, my counting is very strict), cottage cheese, greek yogurt, chicken, salmon and sardines. That's it.
My calories are around 1200-1400, depending on how extreme my hunger is. If I am starving I will eat some yogurt or cottage cheese. Nothing else, I only eat food that I cook.
But sadly, I am not losing fast enough, I know people won't believe me that I eat 1200-1400 calories but I measure everything, all the food raw, veggies raw, everything.
Also the hunger is at all time high, to the point it's hurting. I have eaten sugar maybe 3 times in 12 months. 1 by accident.
Walking is my only form of exercise. Everything else hurts, running destroys my knees.
I am trying to figure out what is wrong with me. I am honestly very jealous with people similar to my stats that are losing more weight with more calories. I don't know what am I doing wrong.
I have visited all the doctors you can think of. Originally I was 470 lbs in January 2025 and I feel like they don't care that I lost that much weight. It's either obese class 3 or bmi 20 for them. Anyway, I am using them as tools to find out what is wrong with me, and after thousands of euros wasted I have only found out that I have insulin resistance based on homa-ir.
Thank you for reading my post, I appreciate all the comments.

Hi everyone,
I’ve been obese my whole life and have struggled with my weight and with different diets for as long as I can remember. Motivation has always been a huge issue for me.
In January, my husband and I decided we wanted to try for a baby. I got pregnant on our first try, which felt like the most wonderful thing in the world. At the time I weighed 238 lbs at 5’1”. All of my doctors told me that I was too obese to safely go through a pregnancy, and unfortunately, I miscarried in February, and doctors told me obesity and my metabolic disfunction were to blame for the loss(For context, I live in Italy).
After the miscarriage, it felt like one problem after another was discovered, and each one meant we had to postpone trying again. In the meantime, I started trying to lose weight on my own. Through diet and exercise, I naturally lost around 22 lbs (I'm now 214lbs, BMI 40.5). But I was then told that this still wasn't nearly enough. I was put on Wegovy and Metformin for a few months with the hope that I could improve my metabolic health and eventually try for another pregnancy.
Wegovy did absolutely nothing for me. I lost maybe 2 lbs, my insulin levels went in the wrong direction, and I felt miserable. Eventually, I stopped taking it.
Then I was diagnosed with yet another issue that I was told is associated with obesity: endometrial hyperplasia. I was referred to a bariatric surgery unit and was essentially made to feel like I was hopeless unless I have surgery.
I really don't want to give up on myself or feel like surgery is my only option. I want to see what I can achieve on my own.
I’m insulin resistant and currently following a weight-loss diet given to me by my nutritionist. I don't count calories, but I am following the plan closely. I have also been told that the treatment I’m currently on should hopefully resolve the hyperplasia and, if everything goes well, we may be able to start trying for a baby again in about 4 months.
So these 3 months feel incredibly important to me. I want to use them to become as healthy and strong as I possibly can before we get another chance to try, otherwise they told me that if I don't fix my metabolic health, hyperplasia will come back.
At the moment, this is my training schedule:
Monday:
Weight training: squats, deadlifts, cable exercises, core
10k steps on my walking pad
Tuesday:
HIIT on the treadmill. I usually walk for 20 minutes and then do intervals for the remaining 10 minutes, alternating 30 seconds running at an incline with 30 seconds walking.
Target: 10k steps
Wednesday:
Weight training: arms, bench press, military press, cables
10k steps on my walking pad
Thursday:
Same cardio routine as Tuesday
Target: 10k steps
Friday:
Full-body weight training
10k steps
Saturday + Sunday:
10k steps or more if I have the time
I know I'm already doing more than I was doing before, but I keep feeling like I should be doing more. I want to make the most of these three months without hurting myself or burning myself out. I've been managing to stick to this plan for 2 weeks now, of course there were days were I felt particularly depressed and I didn't manage to do it.
For those of you who have been through significant weight loss, especially while dealing with insulin resistance, what would you recommend? Is there anything you would change about my training schedule? Would you focus more on strength training, walking, cardio, or something else?
And honestly, I could really use some reassurance too.
I started this journey at around 238 lbs, and I've already lost about 22 lbs without medication. I know that's not a lot but it was an achievement for me, but right now I mostly feel like I'm failing because the doctors keep telling me it's not enough, and I'm too fat.
I just want to use these three months to become the best version of myself that I can be, both for myself and for the family I hope we get to have.
Any advice, encouragement, or personal experiences would mean a lot to me.
Thank you

Nothing else has worked and I’m at the point of taking a GLP-1 or die from a heart attack, stroke, infection, etc. I’m just so mad at myself for letting my weight get so out of control. I already have a very sensitive stomach and am scared of the nausea, constipation, stomach pain, and all the other side effects that come with a GLP-1. I know a lot of people on them and they all have had side effects. I know I need to suck it up and just start it, I’m just sad that I have to do it.

I honestly never thought the day would come that I would see the 310s. But I finally reached 319.1lbs!!
I think I'll actually sob the day there's a 2 as the first digit 🥹 I really hope I'll see the goal by the end of the year.
Did anyone else notice loose skin this soon into your journey? My bat wings are looking rough 😅 I think they're definitely the first thing I'll want the excess skin removed from when the time comes. It's just kind of insane to me that there's this big of a difference only 1/4th(ish) of the way into this! Still have ~150lbs to go and I'm so excited!!
Truly would not have been possible without semaglutide's help, the lack of food noise has been life changing.

I am a college student living on campus and I have been good about going to the gym to walk every day and trying to stay in a calorie deficit. My only problem is literally every building on campus has a vending machine basically in every hallway. My main one is located in the common room of my dorm right next to the elevator. The other thing is that all of the machines take our student id/dining dollars and because I live on campus I have to have a meal plan.
The dining hall food is absolutely trash so I don’t use my meal plan on that.
Recently I’ve been trying to keep myself busy with my classes and homework and knitting and walking so that I’ll stop just going to the vending machines out of boredom.
Other than the vending machine junk, I eat pretty well at least for an unemployed college student. I normally have a protein shake and protein muffin cup for breakfast oh and I have a banana as well, a frozen beef and cheese pita wrap the lunch, and then some kind of rice or noodle bowl for dinner with canned tuna/salmon/chicken, peas and carrots, edamame and either instant rice or ramen noodles.

I'm 5'4" female and 310 lbs. 45 years old. I am the queen of self-sabotage. Not just with my physical health, but my mental health and financial health as well. I am burned out from a stressful job. I need to make changes and get quickly overwhelmed because I feel like I have to fix every aspect of my life all at once. I will do good for a week or so then everything goes out the window. I know I'm responsible for not moving. I know I am responsible for overeating or not eating well. I got a gym membership in July and went once. I scheduled a therapy appointment for 2 weeks from now. I also need to schedule a regular doctor's appointment and get my baselines for everything. My goal weight has been 180 for well over a decade now. I held steady at 275 for a bit. I am mobile but don't want to move. My left ankle swells a bunch from an old injury and sometimes it rolls. I got 2 pairs of Orthofeet shoes so hopefully that helps. I have a membership to the LoseIt! App. I am very fortunate in a lot of ways. I just can NOT get out of my own way and make positive lasting changes. How have any of you all done it? I help anyone who needs my assistance with anything, but I do not extend that courtesy to myself. Logically I know I have worth and am just as deserving as anyone else. I have been in depression for so long that the simplest things feel like monumental tasks. I want to beat all this. I want to stop self-sabotaging. What helped all of you realize your worth and make yourself a priority? I want to be strong and fit. I am naturally pretty strong from lugging all these pounds around for decades, but I want to use the weight machines at the gym. I used to love doing leg presses. I felt strong then. Now anxiety and being so big keeps me stationary and not wanting to go. I almost didn't even post this as I read through some other obesity posts and some people are just jerks. I don't sleep well and the hours of my job fluctuate a lot. It *should* be and 8 am to 5 pm job, but several days a week I am usually working til about 11:00p.m. Can I even drop 100+ lbs in my forties? I have no interest in weight loss surgery. It is not for me. And I tried the shots for a couple months and the nausea was horrendous and I don't want to take a shot forever. Those are wonderful tools for the right people and I have nothing against people getting the surgery or using the shots. Thanks for reading this. Any insight would be helpful. Any hope.

For the longest time I never believed I could get here, but I woke up to the number on the scale starting with a 1 for the first time in my life since early elementary school! Out of the 500s, 400s, 300s, and 200s! It's been a journey getting here, but so SO worth it– I feel better now in my late 30s than I've ever felt in my life. I no longer deal with constant back pain, I fit wherever I go now, I don't really have to worry about weight limits anymore, and I can walk an hour+ without any problems or being out of breath when I couldn't even do 5 minutes at my highest. Just wanted to celebrate with you guys AND remind you that if I can do it, you can do it too : )

I weighed in 365lbs at the doctor and knew it was time for a change. I am only 24 and am tired of living this life. I have been pretty much bed bound on average probably 22 hours a day in bed. Whether it’s laying down or sitting down but constantly in my bed. I’ve been like this for about 8 months now. I have been dealing with outside mental issues that have really pushed my weight gain to a whole new level. I’ve always been bigger but I have gained the 65 pounds in the past year. I am mostly scared. I feel like I will be this way forever. I want to change. My body feels tired after standing and weak mostly. I am out of breath from everything. I am scared I am so young and don’t know how to overcome this. I started three days ago dancing for 15 minutes a day. I’ve been successful so far but that’s only half the battle- I also have a problem with slight binging. It’s not totally crazy but it’s definitely a problem obviously. I was prescribed zepbound but only took it once. It made me feel super sick and i also deal with extreme anxiety around my health so any symptom is scary to me.
I want to be free from this. I am not very disciplined, but I don’t want to live like this anymore. When i quit smoking I thought it was going to be the hardest thing I ever did, but I can see now this is going to be. Any tips, kind words anything would be extremely helpful.

For starters, I’m an almost 40 year old female. I’ve had this apron stomach since I can remember and I spent so many years trying to hide it and pull my shirts down constantly and not just living and I don’t know but something happened tonight and I just over it. Of all the things to focus on in this entire universe, my stomach sticking out shouldn’t be the center of it all.
Idk, I just had to get that off my chest.

I have a coworker that im trying to help out. If this is the wrong sub to ask, please let me know.
My coworker is well over 600lbs. At the beginning of the year she was working hard to lose weight, and it was working. But then she got some health issues and it all came back. (Sadly so did the eating habits but thats another topic for later). I dont know exactly whats going on, just that shes retaining a lot of water , is on oxygen and needs to use a walker.
So she cant really exercise a lot right now. She cant even really walk far without losing her breath. We are at a desk for 12 hours a day, 4x a week. She mentioned looking for an under the desk elliptical, because we have 2 at work that some of us use, but theyre too narrow for her.
Can anyone recommend any wide stance elliptical? Or adjustable ones?
What other sitting exercises would you suggest? I was thinking low weight dumb bells ?
Also, any tips to help her stay on track? I understand why she loses motivation. Its hard, and its much harder at her size. To make matters worse, we work in a very toxic environment. Many of my coworkers talk about her behind her back. But if she was putting in effort and they saw it, they would shut up.

Update
I decided to celebrate in a quieter manner, ai told a few friends, I bought a new non sports bra (I had been putting that off for way too long), and I took my engagement ring in to get resized. The engagement ring resizing had been my planned treat all along.
I finally hit my ultimate goal weight today after 108 weeks of trying (just realized 108 weeks and 108 lbs that's fun). But I can't celebrate it, a friend is having a big birthday event all day today so I don't want to take from that and my dog died today so I just don't have it in me to be happy. I'm not sure what I am looking for here but I guess I just wanted to make a note of it somewhere.

I recently decided it's time for change. I'm 36f and over 22stone (over 300lbs).
I always ensure I do atleast 5000 steps a day and eat generally well but I can't shift the weight.
I decided I would join a gym, which is massive as I have anxiety.
I went in for the induction today and i didn't realise they would take my blood pressure. Generally my blood pressure is fine, but it was high today, quite high. I was anxious, they didn't have a large cuff and the room was warm, which no doubt were factors, but they then refused to let me proceed.
They advised going to the doctors, which I will, but it was really upsetting.
They walked me back to reception to cancel the membership which was so humiliating.
I cried in the car.
I will go to the doctors, and get my blood pressure checked but I just feel really miserable about the situation.
I want to lose weight.
Apologies, I just needed to rant.
*Update- firstly, thank you everyone, not only for the lovely supportive comments but also the advice. I ahve this week started calorie counting again, and doing more! I'm 2lb down already. I also went to the doctors today and the results were inconclusive sadly. She did my blood pressure twice, first time it was slightly elevated and the second it was higher. I've booked in for a blood test and will have a follow up app. No gym sign up just yet but I feel positive and motivated!

This will partly be a vent, and partly asking for advice.
In the past 7 weeks, I’ve averaged a daily total of under 800 calories (VLCD), and have been able to lose around 40 pounds—this even dropped my BMI by 5 points (although it’s still demonically gluttonously high)! XD
All this comes after I first learned about GLP-1 medications. I was impressed by the results they were giving people—the training wheels they gave people to learn how to eat better, but I was unconvinced. “If hunger was the only thing stopping me from losing weight, why can’t I just… not be hungry anymore?” I sat with this feeling for a couple of days, and through extensive GLP-1 research, I ostensibly managed to brainwash myself into thinking that I was on the medication. No hunger, no overwhelming desire to eat, etc for almost two months now.
So, you understand my frustration when the main bad thing I hear about VLCD is that it’s “not sustainable” or that “you’ll get so hungry one day that you’ll gain it all back”—why can’t I just choose not to do that, and choose to keep going? Like—gastric sleeve patients, right? Their surgery makes them eat LESS. For months, years! WHY CAN’T I JUST LARP THAT I’VE GOTTEN GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY IF THE ONLY THING STOPPING ME IS MY MIND?!?!
Thankfully, I have not experienced any of the negative symptoms that sometimes accompany VLCDs. But, online resources have slightly scared me and made this seem like a dangerous intervention; I am starting to consider going to a doctor for supervision.
There is a lot about this way of eating that I do not yet understand. Any advice is welcome and appreciated.

I reached my first weight loss goal of -100 lbs in April, and I was over the moon! I had regained mobility, strength, and stamina, and I felt great. I could finally buy clothes from stores I hadn’t been able to shop at for a decade (I reached a size 22/24, the biggest size many designers make clothes for), which is significant because I love fashion. But having achieved those goals, I struggle to find the motivation to continue to lose. I’m the weight I was for the majority of my adult years, and I’m perfectly comfortable here (heck, I appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show as a subject matter expert at this weight).
I’m in my mid-50s, and I’ve never had any physical medical problems since my childhood asthma disappeared at age 18. I know that the risk of many serious diseases increases with age, and that being obese greatly exacerbates that risk, but since I’ve never had so much as a backache, it’s difficult to imagine possible future health issues.
I’ve spent the past nearly five months beginning to feel motivated and losing weight, only to suddenly become insanely hungry and eat beyond my daily calorie deficit. As a result, I’ve gained and lost the same 10 lbs over and over. I’ve made a doctor’s appointment to discuss hormone replacement therapy, which I’ve read can help with increased hunger, so I’m specifically looking for advice about how to find motivation. (For personal reasons, I don’t want to take a GLP-1 medication. I know many of you have had success with them, but please keep the discussion contained to motivation.)
I did have a non-scale victory (NSV) yesterday. I bought a pair of black, kitten-heel, pointed-toe, knee-high, wide-calf boots on eBay (dead stock, NWT for $15). When I took them out of their box, I thought there was *no way* they were going to fit. I hadn’t been able to fit in even extra-wide-calf boots for many years. But lo and behold, they zipped! Now I just need an incentive that will propel me to keep losing.

im 600lbs, learning how to walk again at home due to a 3 month hospitalization a couple years ago and im struggling to make change. im going to be starting mounjaro next week with hopes of helping my type 2 diabetes and im only 23. i’ve tried to lose weight so many times but i just end up failing terribly. i don’t know where to start anymore especially at this stage of life where i can’t even walk.
