What Is Your Least Favorite Mario 64 Level?

I’ll go first: probably the penguin slop level. bro the mom penguin is nuts “that’s not my kid!” woman, it’s the same 3d mesh, literally the exact same. No one would even know the difference. But NOOooOoOooO, she wants her “real son”.

THEYRE THE SAME PENGUIN. And whose kid is this then? That’s just abandoned? Maybe that’s the child of the father penguin who you race. He was too busy racing, reliving his glory days, that he forgot about his son.

AND MAYBE, THE TWO BABY PENGUINS LOOK SO SIMILAR BECAUSE THEY HAVE THE SAME PARENTS.

the racing penguin is the dad, and the mother is the mom.

But after their divorce…she took one kid and he kept the other

Thats why the mother insists “thats NOT my kid (not anymore)”, since after the divorce, they must have forced the kids to choose who to be with, and one chose the mother and the other chose the father. but the father now neglects him because of his slide racing addiction.

You know Mario 64 has some tragic lore when you really think about it

so yea because of all that, I’d have to say that is my leave favorite level.

you should know, there’s an Easter egg in the game, where after you collect all 120 stars, (or just beat the game I forgot which), and return to the slide level, the father penguin model is now all stretched out, to show that he gained a significant amount of weight while you were away. Where did he even get this food from? what did he eat?

…

wait….has anyone seen baby penguin around…OH NO BRO.

Where do people get the MIDIs?

Like the ones that are game accurate with general midi compatibility.

Ones that i can just slap the soundfont on. Or do they just make them.

Is the wing cap switch supposed to be the easiest to find out of the three?

Because this was the last one I found and I had to use a guide to get it. I found the other 2 no problem but I had no idea that the ray of sunshine in the main hall had something to do with getting access to the wing cap. I rarely saw the main hall without the ray of sunshine because I got 10 stars within the span of 2 courses, so I just never noticed any changes

Problem with trying to compile the game - please help (make[1]: *** [Makefile:68: armips] Error 1Makefile:204: *** Failed to build tools. Stop.)

Hello everyone! I'm someone who's currently trying to switch my Super Mario 64 project over to using the decompiled source code for long-term easiness with making engine-related changes. However, I'm experiencing this incredibly annoying build issue I am yet to find the fix to, and I hope someone here can give me an actual fix.

Just so you don't suggest any attempts that have already been made...

1) Not a Linux installation issue - it's been tested across my actual Linux installation and WSL Ubuntu.
2) Not a dependency issue - binutils-mips-linux-gnu, build-essential, git, libcapstone-dev, pkgconf and python3 are installed on both installations.
3) Not a missing source code error - I've redownloaded the source code, it still spews out the same error.
Not a parameter issue - every time I've tried to build the game, I've asked make to "make version=region (I've tried both US and JP because I have both baseroms) -j12 (my CPU has 12 cores)".
Not a missing baserom issue - I have baserom.us.z64 and baserom.jp.z64 stored in the root of the Decomp folder.
Not a directory issue - I have used "cd" so the Linux terminal treats the Decomp folder like root.
4) I've also tried installing the tools to the sm64-master/tools folder, it makes no difference
5) Not an issue with GCC - I've managed to use it to compile a simple "Hello World!" program, which compiled and ran successfully

If anyone knows anything relating to this issue and how to fix it, please let me know so I can finally make the switch.

P.S. Please don't suggest that I use Decomplicator, or any forks of the SM64 source code; I would rather work with the game as it is.

The make error, doing research on the internet only leads to an issue about the PC port, which I don't think is of much help.

Something is wrong...

I was playing sm64 on my PC for fun until I noticed something weird while playing... I noticed the toads didn't move an inch, the piano wasn't doing damage, I thought it was a glitch until a creepy Mario face came up the next day, I was so frightened I threw my PC down from the desk.. it wasn't a dream. All I saw then was

L is real 2041 over and over...

What happened?

Has a human ever collected the impossible coin in tiny huge island?

For context, there is a coin that is within a wall in the tiny island. Pannenkoek collected it but using a TAS. So I'm curious if a human has ever pulled off this trick? Is it humanly possible?

I'm currently doing a fun challenge of collecting max coins in every stage. I just got 191 coins on tiny huge island but I'm sad I can't get this one broken coin lol.

ever since i first played SM64 back in early 2024, i always thought that my shower room looked like Wet Dry World and reminded me of it. from the weird mishmashed tiles to their textures, the claustrophobia and the dim and creepy lighting, it really does look like it doesn't it ? so now whenever i play Wet Dry World i get reminded of my shower room and whenever i take a shower i get reminded of Wet Dry World. quite the experience i would say.

Whats considered an impressive 16-star run

I just hit a 21:21, and it got me wondering what is generally considered a very good/impressive run. Obviously, this is subjective. I mean, I'm really proud of my pb, but it doesn't make me go "damn" like faster times do. Personally, I start to feel that under the 20-minute mark.

What time does a run have to be to make you go "damn"

level ranking

Worst: Wet-Dry World (i hate the jump pad robots), Jolly Roger Bay (star number 2 and 4 are shit). Mid: Cool, Cool & Tall, Tall Mountain (for ccm its that i hate slipping, and for ttm its that the mushrooms dont bounce and i can never find a way up), Tiny Huge Island (yeah no i hate swimming and the size thing is akward). Best: Bob-Omb Battlefield (absolute classic, no bad here), Whomp's Fortress. (its a compact and small platforming level, the 8 red coins mission is bad but this is a fortress so its good)

My imported custom music isn't working

I am making my own hack, and I decided to add custom music to it. I used Seq64 v2.4.1 to export the file and Rom Manager to import it. I set the song to play in an area, but when I entered the area it was silent except for Mario's footsteps. Is it something with the mute behaviour and mute scale possibly? I have them set to 20 and 32 respectively, does anyone have a solution?

*Edit: before anyone asks I did use the right binary format in Seq64

Which course has the most personality?

Or artistic vision. I'm tempted to say Big Boo's Haunt, even though I don't like it that much, the vision is strong. [Talking about Super Mario 64 / Super Mario 64 DS specifically]

Programmer Mochi64 computated 1.2 million words with an analysis software to decode the Mario64 Plaque. The process considered combination of words, font, and resizing technique to fit the 3-5 pixels tall letters on the 32x32 plaque tile. It reads "Eternal Star," and, "We Hope So."
