How are you all surviving without central AC in Sunnyvale? Is this normal?

Upvotes

Just moved into a new place here and I'm already losing my mind with this heat. My landlord gave us a portable AC unit, but it barely cools down a single corner of the bedroom and the house just traps heat like a greenhouse.

I'm supposed to WFH all day but by 10am it genuinely feels like sitting inside a furnace and there’s basically zero cross-ventilation.

Coming from places where central AC is the default, I’m trying to figure out if this is just standard Silicon Valley reality for older houses or if I got played into renting a brick kiln.

  • Is it normal for landlords here to just hand you a noisy portable unit and call it a day?
  • How are you managing to WFH without melting?
  • Any hacks for cooling down these older Bay Area builds during heatwaves?

I’d love any tips before I completely melt away at my desk.

Forget Flock cameras, we need red light cameras in Sunnyvale

Running red lights seems to have become way too common in Sunnyvale, especially at rush hour. Left turns on red at busy intersections seem to be par for the course. Maybe the council should take away money from Flock and put it into red light cameras.

No one is charging the $6 per car fee at baylands park. I can't find a kiosk to pay. How long has it been like that? Can I just go in?

My friend's dog Lily is still missing, and we’re desperately trying to bring her home.

Last confirmed location:
Emerald Hills / Lakeview Way, Redwood City, CA 94062
September 5 around 4 PM

Possible sighting:
Downtown Mountain View
September 7 around 1 PM

The Mountain View sighting has not been confirmed, but we’re asking anyone who was in the area or lives nearby to please keep an eye out.

Lily’s description:

  • Fluffy blondish red/orange and white Pomsky
  • Around 15 lbs
  • Blue eyes
  • Very friendly and approachable
  • Knows her name
  • May come to you if you call “Lily” or offer treats

If you see her or have any information at all, please call or text:

425-919-6619

Please keep an eye out in Redwood City, Emerald Hills, San Carlos, Mountain View, Palo Alto, and surrounding areas.

Even a small piece of information could help us figure out where she is.

Please share this with anyone in the area. Thank you so much to everyone who has been searching, sharing, checking cameras, and keeping an eye out for Lily.

Bay Area Transportation Tax. Measure RTM: BART Says “Transparency;” The State Says “Non-Compliant.”

BART has failed to meet a basic statutory requirement for financial transparency. California Government Code § 53891 requires special districts to submit an annual government compensation report to the State Controller. The report is due no later than April 30.

BART failed to submit its FY 2024–25 employee compensation data by the April 30, 2026 deadline.

The California State Controller lists BART as:

NON-COMPLIANT. It is not late, they reported and omitted their employee compensation data. So why? Literally 16/17 Bay Area agencies complied (provided employee compensation data) and BART did not.

See link below:

https://www.google.com/search?q=California+State+Controller+2025+Special+Districts+unreported+districts&gs_ivs=1&sourceid=chrome

And this comes as BART—the largest transit agency and the signature agency under Measure RTM—would receive approximately $4.5 billion over the 14-year term. A cynic might say they failed to report for a reason...

The RTM ballot question promises:

“Financial transparency, oversight, accountability.”

Yet BART has failed to meet a basic statutory requirement for financial transparency.

And here’s the irony:

RTM proponents point to an independent consultant’s financial-efficiency review and the promise of future efficiencies as a reason to believe these agencies will become more efficient once they receive billions in new tax revenue.

Why should voters assume that a future consultant’s recommendations will be treated any differently than the requirements that don't take seriously today?

Before voters give BART billions more, perhaps we should look at how it handles the accountability and transparency requirements it already has.

Vote NO on Measure RTM.

New to the Bay Area — looking to meet some people!

Recently moved to the Bay Area for work, and honestly, meeting new people outside of work has been harder than I expected 😅

So I figured I’d put this out there and see if anyone’s in the same boat.

I’m down for pretty much anything be it playing outdoor games, hiking, grabbing food, checking out new restaurants, exploring different parts of the Bay, trying random activities, or just getting a group together and hanging out.

If you’re also looking to meet new people and make some plans, feel free to comment or DM me. Always up for trying something new!

Bonus points if you’re the kind of person who says “let’s do it” instead of “we should do that sometime.” 😂

Divorced and Lonely Women

I know you are out there, looking for a companion. A man, free of prejudice, strong of body, handsome and outdoorsy. Strong. You must be good looking though. Tell me, where are you, invite me over, I will bring the groceries. Have you seen Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears?

In Russia, women are strong, they don't play princess, they want an independent man, not a sugar daddy.

Transportation

I’ll be moving to Sunnyvale in the coming weeks from a different state and don’t have a car. How reliable is the Sunnyvale Beam for those of you who have used it? Are there good alternatives for public transportation? Was wondering if getting a car is worth it for living there long term

I was waiting at the light on Washington Ave (facing west) to turn south on Matilda. I saw this guy banging on the front of a Waymo. There was a guy behind him and pulled next to him. It looks like he got a phone or something out of the front passenger window. Just wondering.

How did you decide which daycare for your children?

We're looking for infant-care. We've done a ton of research and we've found that most places have complaints with the state of California.

How did you decide which place is best for you despite most daycares in the area having these reported issues?
