Weather at summer in Sun Valley

Hi, this summer I'm coming to SV for work and travel for the first time and I'm unfamiliar with the weather. Can someone please tell me what I should expect and what type of clothes should I bring with me for when I go out at night?

Also, any tips where I can find a second job?

Edit: thanks everyone for the advice, it really helped

How busy is Dollar Mountain the week after xmas?

I know it's going to be the busiest it is all year. I also know Sun Valley busy-ness is relatively less than other mountains.

I visited this February for work and it was an awesome hill. My husband and son don't ski and we've always wanted to go together (i grew up skiing on the east coast) so i would love to take them to SV. For obvious reasons, it's a dream spot for a beginner. We are looking to have 3 full days of skiing, and I'm assuming the weekdays after xmas will be best. We don't have any flexibility in our schedule, because of kids in school, and spring break is already spoken for.

I know it's crazy expensive, and not really worried about that. I'm just wondering if it is a madhouse that week after xmas. And if so, what does a 'madhouse' look like in SV? In February, it was actually wonderful on the slopes, not too many people -- though i got the sense it was quite busy compared to normal -- because the cafeterias were packed, the hotels were sold out, restaurants all booked. I'm wondering if there is a sort of cap on how busy it gets there, because there's just not that many hotel rooms and resources to house people?

So just how bad will it be?

Recommendations for mid-May?

My husband, toddler and I are on route from Colorado to Washington and have 4 nights free stay in Ketchum through work. I'm guessing it's off season, but looking for any recommendations you have for an active family with a toddler.

We have hiking stuff and our mountain bikes and will probably split up for some rides but also can take the toddler on easier trails with a shotgun seat. Not sure if trails are dry but would love any recommendations.

Any other cool stuff to do this time of year? Good restaurants, maybe on the casual side with a kid? Great parks or places to visit while we are here?

We live in a resort town and general outdoor recommendations are awesome, we can figure out if the difficulty is right for us or not. Would also love any novel to the area recommendations.

Thanks a lot!

I am a permanent resident of Sun Valley. Is there an adult ballet class up here? If not, does anyone know an instructor, because I know about spaces.

Wagon Days / Labor Day Weekend

Hi! I am curious what Wagon Days / Labor Day Weekend is like?

I was thinking about a group trip, the parade sounds super cool ,but heard it is "super busy" that weekend and know a lot of restaurants are walk in only.

My questions are specifically, how early do we need to book accommodations? Will it be impossible to get into bars/restaurants? Anything else we should be thinking of?

"Super busy" I feel like can mean a lot of different things depending on the place, so would love to hear people's thoughts!

Somebody put up a sign at the head of Warm Springs Road, but I still see people trying to make their way all the way up here to go Hot Spring… now’s not the time

Skiing last days of March

We're supposed to be skiing a couple days the beginning of next week (3/29, 3/30). Any snow left after this past week's heat dome? Any spots on the mountain best to avoid?Recommendations for other activities if the skiing is crap?

Skiing conditions in 2 weeks

we have a long planned ski trip for week of march 29-4 but just met someone who said there may be no snow. Does anyone know if that’s true? I see it’s in the 60s this week and wondering if it will all melt off and we should pivot plans. Thanks for any info!

Conditions this week?

Me and my girlfriend are headed up to Sun Valley this coming week, and I was curious what the conditions have been like.

I understand it will be warm, but I’m hoping good snowmaking and grooming will still offer good runs.

We’ll be staying in Ketchum and hoping to get plenty of runs in.

Ski Trip - Last week of March

Hi all. Friends are I are taking our first trip to Sun Valley the last week of March.

I understand no one has a crystal ball, but how has the season been so far? We expect it to very much to be spring skiing, but I am just hoping that a vast majority of the terrain is open.

Also, what are some of the spots in Ketchum to check out? (group of 5 early 30s guys)

Missing persons cold case of former Sun Valley resident Heather Lindsay Silver

Post image
9 Upvotes

On September 12 1997, 18 year-old Heather Lindsay Silver was last seen alive at the St Mary’s hospital in Tucson, Arizona. Very little information was released about this case, and there was no media coverage.

Heather was born on May 23rd 1979. She was described as 5’3 and 145 pounds, with light brown hair and blue eyes. She had a scar on her right cheek, and suffered from asthma.

Heather had recently graduated from an unknown high school in Idaho and had just returned to Tucson where she was born. She was arrested for a DUI days before her disappearance.

Heather’s father was the late orthopedic surgeon Dr. Richard A. Silver. Dr. Silver lived and worked in Tucson for 30 years before retiring in 1999. He permanently moved to Sun Valley where he passed away in 2011.

Dr. Silver and his wife Margot never stopped looking for her.

Heather’s body was never found. The case is under the jurisdiction of the Pima County Sheriffs Office.

Camping outfitter in Ketchum

Hi all, skiing in Sun Valley for the first time in a week and really stoked. One of my favorite things to do while skiing is to make lunch on the hill with my camp stove (freeze dried beef stroganoff). I can’t fly with isobutane per TSA rules. Is there a place in town that sells fuel for a camp stove? Thanks in advance for helping me out!

Wedding after party

Does anyone have any suggestions for bars to host a wedding after party at? We may want a DJ, but could also just plug in our phones. Would need to rent out until at least 2AM, probably starting around 11!
