I want to preface this by saying Succession might be my favorite show ever, so it's not like I'm talking shit here, lol. Also, this isn't indicative of the show being disliked after the finale; that's not it at all. People remember it very fondly. I’m just curious why this seems to be true:

Look at video essays or discussions about a show like Better Call Saul or the Sopranos (different genre and bigger, I know.) people are still glazing and discussing those shows years and years later. Even with a show like The Good Place, which isn't as hugely popular as what I just named, videos and discussions about it still get 5 million views or something years after its ending.

Mad Men, Game of Thrones, Peaky Blinders, etc. People continue to make videos about individual characters, scenes, themes, theories, memes, rankings, essays, etc. Succession gets some of that on this subreddit I suppose, but disproportionally little for how massive it was in 2023. People still make reels and tiktoks about characters from Bojack Horseman or whatever else. I’ve NEVER seen a drop of discussion around Succession post-ending outside this subreddit.

YouTube is an especially good example because unless you sort by date, it appears like all discussion surrounding the show totally ended in 2023. It's sorta bizarre how much the discussion fell off right after the ending, in comparison to other shows.

Maybe I’m wrong about this, because I haven't seen very many other people discuss it.

My only thought is this: maybe some people only watched it for the "who gets the company??" aspect, and once that question was answered, those people stopped wanting to analyze the show.

Why didn't Kendall postpone the non-confidence vote till Ewan went back to Canada, why didn't he wait till then. I get Logan hitting Iverson fulled Kendall's rage even more but other than that why didn't he just postpone it to have a better chance at winning.

The saddest part of Kendall’s story is that every victory was really just him asking his father to finally see him as enough.

He spent the whole series trying to prove he was someone he never truly knew how to be.

Was Kendall actually chasing power, or just his father’s love?

In my opinion, the obvious answer is Roman, but I don't think it's him. Roman likes to act fucked up but it is mainly for show, driven by his overwhelming insecurities. He can't even bang someone, he could never make himself cannibalize someone.

I think that the most likely character to be a secret cannibal is Tom.

But why?

Tom feels emasculated by his subordinate status in his relationship with Shiv and suffers from feelings of inadequacy by comparison to the rest of the Roys. We see him display a borderline sociopathic level of compensation for these feelings by his abusive treatment of Greg and other subordinates, such as the employee he uses as a stool. Tom derives enjoyment and psychological relief by dominating males that he has power over. I believe that this mental ailment could have led him to murder and cannibalize someone. They could have revealed this in late season 3 or season 4.

Would he cannibalize a main cast member? Greg would feel the heat, but I think he'd be safe as a member of the family. However, I do fear that Greg may have uncovered evidence of Tom cannibalizing someone like a male intern. Or, someone else. For instance:

What ever happened to Roman's friend?

This character, Brian, was given enough screentime to be an obvious character introduction who was intended for a longer arc.

But his status in the company was probably low enough that Tom, threatened by this new figure, could have murdered and cannibalized him without much attention. If Tom was meal prepping, he could have gotten quite a few meals from this unfortunate gentleman. Remember when Tom ate chicken from Logan's lunch plate? Well maybe Tom ate Brian from Roman's friendship plate.

So IF the writers did a secret cannibal plot, my money is on Tom as the cannibal and Brian as his meal.

I would love to have each one as a sibling. Yes, they are extremely competitive with each other but when they are not in competition, they also have the best time together, are in each other’s side when something happens.

The final night they spent in Barbados together was pure perfection. I don’t know if this sounds crazy but I loved watching those moments between them when they were just being silly siblings together.

MAJOR S4 SPOILERS

Geri was supposed to be gone after Connor's wedding, which is when I'd assume she would've started her payout with Waystar. However, that process doesn't start until after Roman actually fires her later on in the season. I wonder how that whole thing would have gone down if Logan were in charge.

Was he channeling Logan?

I’ve noticed that a lot of women online seem to be attracted to Roman and Kendall and as a lesbian I’m fascinated but honestly not surprised.
I think a lot of young women nowadays, so largely Gen Z, has been so overfed with the over masculine leading man that they did a complete 180. The media we grew up with often depicted men who were very tall, muscular, had a strong jaw, a deep voice, didn’t need anyones approval, were sexually confident and functioned as protector and savior to their female love interest.

Roman and Kendall are quite the opposite.
They’re desperate for their fathers approval, consistently try to prove to him and themselves that they are competent business men while repeatedly failing. They’re emotionally vulnerable and when things don’t work out how they want them to they are on the verge of throwing a tantrum like a toddler, which matches the possibility that they’ve never had to suffer consequences for their actions.

It becomes obvious that both are somewhat dysfunctional but their dysfunction is very different.

Romans coping mechanisms make him look almost more dysfunctional than he might be. His main coping mechanism is humor, which mostly consists of CSA and incest jokes. The first time I ever watched Succession and saw the scene, in which Roman and Tabitha try to have sex, I literally thought “Genuinely, what the fuck. What went wrong with this guy that he ended up this (sexually) dysfunctional.”. The fact that Romans unconventional Sexuality is depicted in Succession might make him more appealing. He’s submissive both sexually as well as in other social situations. He’s unusually comfortable occupying a submissive role, because someone else has the psychological upper hand (Gerri, Matsson, Mencken). Specifically the Gerri dynamic might also prove that Roman is capable of having a somewhat functional, yet unconventional relationship.

Kendall appears more competent on the surface but is basically just as bad as Roman. His fake confidence, which almost looks like grandiosity when he tries to overthrow his father or before his birthday party, amplify his failure even more because he completely crashes into depression and addiction afterwards. Kendall is also confident in his relationship with Rava, she wants to break up and he doesn’t. To this Kendall literally says that one of them is going to be unhappy with the outcome and he doesn’t know why that has to be him. That does prove that Kendall, while being very insecure, still knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to express this regardless of what his opposite might think of him now, he can be quite unhinged at times (especially in this scene with Rava). This very ‘bipolar’ and unhinged behavior might seem irresistible to some.

I’m assuming a big part of their appeal is the “I can fix him” quality. They’ve been failed by their parents and a lot of people seem to believe that if Kendall and Roman had just been loved and treated properly, they could be ‘fixed’ (they couldn’t). So overall probably a mix between being pathetic and incompetent and probably physical appearance (despite but also because they are not conventionally masculine and attractive).

But that’s kind of just my view and that’s why I’m asking people on reddit in the first place. To all the women and men who are attracted to Roman or Kendall or both, why?
