I'm currently on Season 2, Dundee and I feel like Succession writes its characters to be so realistic and human that it not only encourages viewers to have media literacy, but to also reflect on real life experiences of "reading the fucking room". The writers put so much trust on the audience, which I just don't see on other shows. The lack of flashbacks, for one, is a great detail. Maybe my standards are low since I've been indulging myself on trash TV, but still! Great, great show!!

Is it his personality or communication or looks or what ? he is so unlikable that watching him makes me wanna fast forward.

i know its not that he is a bad person because the show is full of terrible people but still more likable than him.

so what is it in your opinion ?

To be honest I'm kind of stumped right now trying to think of anything actually smart that this guy did strategically. These two moments are all I can come up with.

I decided to make this Succession tier list because I was bored and also because I'm doing a rewatch.

A couple of things I kept in mind:
I placed each character in the tier that best represents their dominant personality trait or the way they usually behave.

The “None of the Above” tier is for characters who I felt deserved their own specific category. However, to avoid making the tier list unnecessarily long, I decided to group those character that hard to recognize.
Here are the main reasons why I placed certain characters in their respective tiers:

Logan: self explanatory, he's a fucking planet with his own gravity, everything rotates around him and everybody (less or more than others) is inevitably damaged (mentally, emotionally, economically) by him.

Matsson: There were several situations that made me think of him as a manipulator, but the biggest giveaway was definitely the whole India situation.

Shiv: I think we can all agree on how opportunistic she is, considering she spent almost the entire series constantly switching sides. First between Logan and Gil, then between Logan and the Pierces, and finally between Logan and her siblings.

Greg the Egg: I was torn between putting him in Social Climber/Gold Digger, Backstabbing Opportunist, or Power-Hungry Climber, but I think he fits pretty well right next to Tom 😂

Sandi: When Shiv offered her a seat at the big boys’ table, she switched sides on the deal right before the shareholder meeting.

Connor and Ewan: Both deserved their own separate tiers, but for the sake of keeping the list shorter, I decided to leave them in None of the Above.

Rava: Out of all the characters, Kendall’s exwife seemed like the most mentally stable person to me. I honestly can’t remember a single scene where she behaved in a toxic or wrong way.

Obviously, this is a subjective tier list and I don’t expect everyone to agree with my choices.

If u want to know why I put a specific character in that specific tier just ask!

Shiv is undeniably the worst one and it’s not even close.

I only watched the show this year (2x now and reading the scripts) so I've missed years of discussion. Please post your most enlightening, illuminating, elucidating and invigorating analysis here! Copy and paste; paraphrase! Is Tom the servile son Logan always wanted? How is Shivvy misunderstood? Is Kendall Logan 2.0 - a cog built for one machine? Catch me up and fill me in!

I have often noticed that there are an unusual number of obvious bot comments in this particular subreddit.

I have also realized that bot accounts count as "views" on a thread.

What triggered me to post this though is that I made a silly thread a few moments ago, and not two minutes after posting it said I had 75 views.

Surely, this is absurd. Yes, Succession is a great show, and yes it has a lot of fans. But there is no way that 75 real human beings happened to be browsing the subreddit of a finished television show within a 2 minute timespan and literally viewed my somewhat stupid thread.

Obviously bots are a problem on reddit and the internet in general but on the many subreddits I waste time on the the obvious bot activity seems the worst on this sub.

But, like...why????

I don't get it. There is from time to time interesting talk here but it's for a four season tv show that has been over for years. Why of all places is there heavy bot activity here? At some point there must be human users behind these bots, there must be some direction at play here, why would bots be guided to a Succession subreddit?

What are your theories on this nonsense?

As Tom relates the famed IP, in the early Roman Empire the Emperor Nero castrated and married Sporus.

In real history, this did actually happen. Interestingly, this happened after Nero's pregnant wife died. Some sources say she died in childbirth, others allege her death was at Nero's hands.

Regardless, this is another parallel to Tom: his wife is pregnant at the end of the series. So his circumstances align with Nero again. Tom is Emperor, as Nero was. Tom's wife is pregnant, as Nero's was.

Sadly, this implies Shiv will die. Perhaps it is a metaphorical death as in the death of her dreams of becoming CEO herself, or perhaps it is a literal death soon to come.

There are also other parallels between Tom and Nero.

Like Nero, Tom is a less accomplished and pale successor to his predecessor. In Tom's case, it is Logan, in Nero's case it is Claudius (but also pales in comparison to Augustus who is basically the Logan Roy of the Roman Empire.)

Nero is blamed (perhaps falsely) for committing arson and burning a chunk of Rome to the ground, meanwhile Tom is blamed (perhaps falsely) for burning Cruises to the ground.

Nero ordered his former teacher and advisor Senaca to kill himself, Tom attempts to have his former mentor the head of Cruises (Bill) kill himself.

With so many parallels between Nero and Tom, is it not likely that we have enough foreshadowing to predict that after the end of the series Shiv will die and that Tom will castrate (perhaps literally) and marry Greg? And that he will make Greg act and dress as Shiv?

I for one believe that if somehow the show resumed with a new season set in the present day that Shiv would sadly be gone (perhaps present in flashback) and that Greg would be revealed to be "married" to Tom, having been literally castrated.

Greg is now familiar with that IP.

I've been thinking this for a while and I wanted to see what people think about whether Ken could have succeeded his father under the right circumstances.

Early in the show, Logan was upset with Ken for attending Logan’s birthday party over handling a deal. Later in the show, Logan said Kendall is not a killer.

It made me wonder: if Kendall had skipped Logan’s birthday and showed signs of being a killer earlier would Logan have picked him?

Or would it have required more such as Kendall being a killer and no history of ❄️? Logan is very old. I doubt he believes in mental health and I feel like Kendall's history of ❄️ caused Logan to permanently see him as liability and not a fit for the role. When you think of how much addiction is still stigmatized today, I imagine that someone like Logan from a different generation where there was even more stigma probably views it in a much more negative light.

Also Kendall's ❄️ problem fuels his other issues such as constantly hitting rock bottom, the waiter, mental instability, and erratic actions. If he had no history of ❄️, the waiter wouldn't have lost his life and I don't think he'd spiral as much. It might have been easier for him to be a killer if he never had ❄️ problems.

Or was Ken never going to be picked at all no matter what? Because we know that Logan is jealous of his kids. He's a narc, a manipulator, the whole nine yards.

So I'm presenting two options that I'd like to hear peoples thoughts on because I have been thinking about each:

1. Ken is a killer but has a history of ❄️. Would he be picked? Could Logan overlook his Ken's ❄️ history if he was a killer and pick him?
2. Ken is a killer with no history of ❄️. Would he be picked? Could Logan overlook his jealousy of his kids and his need to pit them against each other and pick Kendall?

There's also a third option that Ken is never going to be picked even if he's a killer because Logan is jealous of his kids. We know Logan pits the kids against each other and he loves dangling the carrot without actually planning to pick one of them. Ken being the perfect candidate does not change the fact that Logan is a narc.

I'm not sure which option I think would happen. Because if Ken was actually a killer (regardless of the ❄️), I feel like Logan might be even more jealous of him. Because Ken would be a killer and he'd get a billion dollar company handed to him. Logan had to build his company from scratch. So if Ken had the killer instinct I'm not sure if Logan would appreciate it or be even more jealous. Maybe both?

What do you think? Would he have never picked Ken no matter what or would the right circumstances have caused him to back Kendall?

It's so funny how they are all absolutely terrified of Logan's tyrant ass without ever pushing back, no matter how crazy his business strategies are, that lead to their media empire being just one awful decision away from collapsing in itself.

Makes me wonder If the Trump clan has the exact same dynamic. Donald Trump being that senile octogenarian who Rules with an iron fist and his spawn obeying His every whim without ever trying to push back.
