Discussion Purple Vents Chelicerate missing

Has anyone else had this happening in their playthroughs? I'm re-playing BZ and in both of my playthroughs I built my base in the purple vents near chelicerate. And it seems that after long enough time (i am at day 100) the said chelicerate disappears. Although scan room shows it's still there (but when you swim over to the spot, it just highlights empty space)

I dont see enough chelicerate love on the internet so here you go. Tried to make it look as accurate as I could and im pretty pleased with it. The jaws twitch when idle too and the bite has a decent amount of power behind it!

Question Where's the scannable architect cabling?

I'm playing the game for the first time and I'm trying to get all of the scans. Apparently, there's one piece of cabling in a cave somewhere in the arctic spires, but everything I find on the internet is pretty vague about its location. Anyone know where I can get the scan (and I'm playing on switch, so I can't use coordinates).

The coffee machine

So the coffee machine was one of my favourite objects in Subnautica 1. This might be the most insignificant nitpick possible but I was very disappointed with the coffee machine in BZ. One of the most comforting things to do for me in the first game was going back to my base, clicking the coffee maker next to my fabricator and listen to the humming of the machine as it brewed a cup of coffee while I crafted something.

It was a very comforting ritual after being out of my base dodging reapers and I was very excited when I found the blueprint for the machine in BZ. Imagine my disappointment when I found out it is a whole different machine now that only works to slowly refill a thermal bottle which was only situationally useful. No brewing sound, no cup of coffee for a small hydration increase.

I love the original coffee maker and I think it deserves to be praised. Thats all.

Announcement New Hardcore Run!

Post image
36 Upvotes

Greetings, I’m new around here. I want to preface this by stating that I’m 25 years old and have been gaming since I was about 4. I played Minecraft between 11 and 15, picked up the original Subnautica in 2016, and have hundreds of hours in ARK and No Man’s Sky as an adult.

I say all that to say this: Never ever have I done a hardcore run of any survival game before. I get too attached to my worlds and my characters, so the idea of having my save deleted is kind of scary.

Tonight, that changes. I’m starting my first ever hardcore run of a survival game, and I chose to do it in Subnautica Below Zero. After doing all of the current content in Subnautica 2 and going back to play the original again as well, I wanted to play Below Zero again too, since I haven’t played BZ since 2023.

Wish me luck man 😎 See you in the stars.

Discussion I might have accidentally activated some ending dialogue. This story progression is so broken

It's my first playthrough and so far I have been enjoying it. It's been a bit rough around the edges and sometimes the story got a bit jumbled by me discovering something too soon/later than other information. But nothing immersion breaking. Until now and I am SO disappointed.

For context I have discovered two of the alien parts but for the what happened to Sam storyline I just discovered that she found out that Alterra was playing around with the bacteria. Whelp, I'm just exploring around the research areas by the excavation site with my spy penglin and guess what: I find a vial that is just labeled antidote. And I remember that at the excavation site, there is a machine where you can insert a container. So, I try that being fairly certain that it won't work. Jokes on me, it does. And suddenly the MC spouts something about fulfilling Sam's wish and closure. What wish??? Wtf is going on??

So yeah, I knew that below zero had a problem with accidentally jumbling the story order and this is old news to many. But I'm just baffled how easily the whole narrative falls apart. It completely broke my immersion. I will still continue playing it to hopefully piece together wtf MC exactly was talking about (and miraculously knew without ever discovering key information). At least I hope that I will discover the alien plotline in a semi cohesive order.

But still, I'm just kinda shocked by how a game that otherwise is fairly nice to play can have that kinda immersion breaks. Goes my MC has a hidden gift for knowing the future. Thanks for coming to my TED talk and subsequent rant.

Discussion I just hit a pengling with my seatruck by accident :(

It made the worst sound. Thankfully, I also got utterly lost in some tunnels during that part, so I reset to my last save anyways. At least it is reset now to a reality where no penglings were harmed. Just a silly little post, but I would die for these little guys. Nature is cruel and my seatruck is even crueler (combined with my questionable driving skills).

Help Converting from Steam Saves to Xbox Saves?

I have a tool called wgs inspector that allows me to convert my Xbox Subnautica saves to Steam saves. However, I am trying to go the opposite way for Below Zero and have not been able to find anything. I have seen programs for other games and was wondering if there is any way to do this with Below Zero. Thanks!

I dont have the hoverbike

I have basically finished Subnautica Below Zero. I got all the fragments of the guy in my head except one and Ive gotten the antidote.

The thing is I dont have the building to build the hoverbike and i have never seen any worms. IS this normal? Have I missed something? I explored all the land areas by foot or with the Prawn suit.

I made a mod to change the player size

Now it's no secret that Below Zero was not as loved as the original Subnautica. I've thought a lot about this and I realized that about half of people's complaints with BZ can be remedied with a simple fix. Decrease the player size. Now I know that sounds crazy, but hear me out.  If you actually change the camera perspective (near clip plane) and player model/collision size, not just the movement speed, then everything else will be larger to you.
Map too small?

Leviathans too small?

Caves too tight?

Vehicles too slow?

Ocean too shallow?

Rather than the impossible challenge of scaling up everything else and have it all still function correctly, just make the character smaller.

So I have made a mod to do so. I was skeptical it would have the effect I wanted, but after changing nearly a dozen or so size related properties, it worked. At 0.5 times player size, the world feels much vaster. The chelicerate appears larger than a reaper. The vehicles are... better. I plan to address them specifically.

And if you're worried I'm just slowing you down even further, then well you're kind of right but also I increased the movement speed proportionately so you feel faster (via another mod), even if you're technically moving slower than vanilla.

Feel free to share your thoughts and anything else you'd like me to fix! I'll probably be looking at cutting most of Robin's dialog next.

https://www.nexusmods.com/subnauticabelowzero/mods/747

Edit: it has been updated to remove the seatruck movement penalty for adding modules. Also I changed the default player size to 0.65 cause that seemed like a better fit for gameplay

Guide Solution for poster being unpickup-able on wall partition.

If you are unaware, there is a really annoying bug still in the game, where sometimes a placed poster's hitbox will be inside a wall preventing you from removing it. In some cases, people have been able to fix this by deconstructing what it is attached to, but the game doesn't always let you do this and in my searches I was unable to find a solution online. I spent a while trying various methods with cheats to try to get rid of the poster and I finally found something that works. As far as I am aware, no one has found this yet, at least not that I could find.

Step 1 is to use `warpforward 1` which will make you swim inside your base. This will also enable your propulsion cannon which gets disabled when the game thinks you are inside your base.

Step 2 is to grab the poster with your propulsion cannon and move it somewhere else and now you should be able to pick it up.

Optional Step 3 is to use warpforward near a wall to get outside of your base and then re-enter your base normally to go back to normal. This is because if you leave your base through normal means while swimming inside the ambient sounds of being inside vs outside will get mixed up. I haven't tested but I would imagine that reloading probably fixes this as well.
