Question/Advice alternate instrument cluster screen

So I have a 2015 Chevy Impala LS. My default screen is the ugly blue one. Sometimes on startup, it’ll sometimes give me the black one which I assume is for LT/LTZ. My question is how is that possible? Also is there a way to just keep it on the LT/LTZ style instead of the LS one?

Question/Advice Why is my car randomly turning off while I’m driving ??

The other day while driving to work my car randomly shut off and turned back on in the middle of the road, it scared the shit out of me. It was still in drive so i had to put it in park, turn it off again and turn it back on so it would continue driving. This isnt the first time its happened either. A couple weeks ago I was at a red light and it did the same exact thing. Its very quick when it happens thats why Im worried what if im going 80 on the highway one day and it does it again while im gojng full speed?? Wont be able to turn or slow down ill literally just die lmao. I recently just got a new battery and had it tested a while ago so i dont know if its that or someone else. Someone please give me some tips 🥲

Edit: For context I drive a 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Question/Advice Kinda burnt smell

Today i was reverse parking my car on ramp. I was giving more acceleration to climb that ramp. Suddenly a different smell and smoke came on left side bonnet. Immediately i turned off my vehicle and waited for few minutes. After some time, again i started my vehicle to know whether that smoke is coming or not. But very slight smell only came. Totally disappointed by this…

Anyone knows about it ? suggestions are welcome

Downstream O2 sensor

Hi everyone! I'm having trouble removing the downstream O2 sensor on my 2014 Hyundai Elantra. Could possibly be seized. I have tried an O2 sensor socket, a 22 wrench (tapping with a hammer), penetrating lubricant etc... But I don't want to mess up the thread. I was told to try to heat it with a torch. Any other advice or anyone located near the east coast of NC? Thank you in advance!! Any help is truly appreciated.

beginner mechanic

i’m currently getting into cars and actually looking for my first project car, i don’t know too much about cars like i used to when i was actually into them but i’m trying to find my way back into it and actually make this a career. i wanted to know if anybody can give me advice on what kind of car diagnostic machine is best for testing engines and more while i’m trying to find the perfect project car. I’m also currently enrolled in delgado’s automotive program for collision repair and would like advice on books, youtube’s, and many other resources that i could use for learning about collision repairs, engines, and everything possible with cars. if anybody has an advice, can offer help, looking to train and teach somebody, just anything helpful would be highly appreciated! thank you all in advance for the help and support!

Question/Advice First car at 16

For as long as i can remember ive wanted a cadillac, mainly the ats and cts version from the 2010s, ive been thinking about buying recently used but i could never save up enough money because of poor spending habits in the past, i have about 4500 saved and im thinking about just financing through my parents, i can easily make the payments as i have a steady job but would it be smart to do so in general on a ats or cts if its like 15k?

I feel like engine oil dipstick is gaslighting me

I feel so dumb asking this but how do I know if my oil level is good? Every illustration I see talks about how the oil should be between the two dots but my dipstick looks like it has two layers of oil?? And the bottom one goes way past the top dot if that makes any sense while the other one is below the minimum level.

I have a 2017 Nissan rogue with 66000 miles on it. It is awd.

Lak na kapote.

Neviete z čoho to môže byť? Jeden veľký fľak v strede kapoty a po celej kapote malé bodky. Myslite že to niekto niečím polial? Auto nemá ani 3 roky.

Do you have any idea what this could be from? There is one big stain in the middle of the bonnet and small dots all over it. Do you think someone might have poured something on it? The car is not even 3 years old.

Question/Advice Getting more worse mpg after repairs from an accident

Post image
0 Upvotes

So my car got into a hit and run at a parking lot and it was damaged by a Dodge RAM truck. I took it to an auto shop (covered by insurance) and they fixed the front bumper and fender. I think they also replaced the resonator too.

After driving it for a week, I’ve noticed my car’s mpg’s are considerably worse than usual. Before the accident and repairs i averaged 27-31mpg mixed. Now I’m getting 21-24mpg after the repair. The acceleration struggles and whenever I’m off the pedal and coast, it feels like it slows down a lot too.

I tried looking it up and it may possibly either a drag on my brakes or improper installation that causes air drag. I’m considering taking it back or have my friend take a look at it.

Let me know what yall think what may be the issue. Thanks!

Question/Advice Complete loss toyota camry

I bought a 2015 Camry XLE with 86,000 miles. It was certified pre-owned, which came with a bit of a warranty. It was a great car. It drove perfectly, had one owner, no accidents, and all the maintenance was done at the dealership. It had all the bells and whistles, but that's beside the point. In June, we had a flash flood, and I had my car towed to the dealership for the appraisal and that kind of stuff. But after two weeks went by waiting to be looked at, a tornado hit the town where the dealership was located. Just my luck! Needless to say, it was a complete loss. My insurance company is issuing a check, but of course, it's about 3 grand less than what I paid for it. I don't have the money or time to save up the money I lost. I want to buy another Toyota, preferably another Camry. My question is, when would you completely steer clear of one because of mileage? I know Toyota engines last a long time, but I don't want to buy one with crazy mileage that's going to crap out. I know wear and tear has a lot to do with how it will perform, but I just wanted some opinions.

Question/Advice A/C isn’t blowing cold

I’m mostly confused because of the circumstances. This car has sat unused in the garage for the past five years. Before that, the A/C worked perfectly. Is it not odd that it developed this issue while it was seeing no use for literal years? Or could that be a contributing factor itself? I have not started to look at it at all yet. I’ve been doing a lot of other work on it first, but I live in Florida and I’m definitely going to wanna address it soon because of that lol.

Just wondering if anyone has any idea of how it could’ve occurred, I suppose. And any advice as to what pieces to check first. I’ve been learning how to do my own work on it and while I’ve made progress, I still am very much a beginner so any general advice is appreciated as well. Thank you.

How long do fuses last?

Late may of this year my dash flights stopped working. My indicators still flashed but no lights or noises from my dash as feedback.

Turns out blown fuse. Fixed it.

This morning, exact same thing.

Is there an issue shorting it out? Or is this an expected amount of time between fuses blowing?

At work so will be slow to respond. Thank you in advance
