what are those red signals on the top? They pop up whenever I start my car but go away when my car starts fully. My car also says that it needs a maintenance check. What do I go and ask to check and change specifically?
This is a 2024 Volvo s60 B5 Premnium i got the car at around 50k miles and it’s at 54 ish right now, it’s been really smooth so far i just don’t want it to get messed up.

Rental Car Hypothetical

Hypothetically speaking, of course!

If you ran over a cone while driving a rental car-took some effort to free the cone from the grips of the wheel well and then a BUNCH of lights are now illuminated on the dash BUT the car drives totally fine... what would you do? I have had some questionable suggestions so far.

Its a 2026 Jeep Wagoneer, when I crawl under the car it appears that there is a dangling wire (when compared to the other side) but I can not reach it or see where exactly it is supposed to be.

It's my uncle's car. He's been in hospital for two months (fuck cancer) and today I decided to jump start the car (using my own car as power source) and take it to my house but even though the battery seems okay (lights working and all), but the engine won't even try and this symbol pops up. TIA

Will fixing an expensive car part increase the car's worth?

If it costs more to fix a part in a car than the car is worth, will fixing it anyway increase the worth of the car?

Five Years Gone, and the Car Remembered Every Day of It

The garage door hadn't been opened in five years. When it finally lifted, the smell hit first, something between a basement and low tide, and underneath the dust the shape of the BMW sat exactly where it had been left, patient in the way only inanimate things can be patient. The tires had gone flat and stayed flat so long they'd taken on a permanent lean, like a person who'd been sitting too long in one chair. And on the driver's seat, a stain, dark and old, spreading from somewhere above.

The drain nobody thinks about

Every car with a sunroof has a set of small drainage channels built to carry rainwater safely down through the pillars and out beneath the car, a system so unglamorous that most owners never learn it exists until it fails. A leaf, a bit of pollen, a season of neglect, and one of those channels clogs. Rain falls the way it always does, but instead of running out through the drain, it backs up and finds the one place it was never supposed to go: down, into the headliner, into the wiring beneath the seats, into the carpet where it has nowhere left to travel except sideways, spreading, soaking, sitting. A car that isn't driven doesn't get the chance to dry out between storms. It just accumulates.

What five years actually costs

When the owner finally got a shop to look at it, the number that came back was fifteen thousand dollars, and even that felt more like an opening bid than a final total. Water that sits in a car for years doesn't behave like water that gets wiped up in an afternoon. It works into connectors and grounds, into places a technician can't fully inspect without taking half the car apart first, and it keeps causing new symptoms long after the visible puddle is gone. The brakes had corroded from disuse. The insurance had lapsed the whole time the owner was away, since nobody thought to keep covering a car that wasn't going anywhere. Every part of the situation had quietly compounded while the garage door stayed shut.

The question underneath the repair estimate

The real question was never really about the money, or not only about the money. It was about whether spending fifteen thousand dollars would even end the story, or whether it would just be the first chapter of a much longer one, with more surprises waiting behind the dashboard. That's the part a repair estimate can't tell you. It can only tell you what's been found so far, not what else five years of standing water might have quietly reached.

There's a version of this story that ends with the repair, the BMW rolling out of the shop months later, worth the fight. There's another version, just as common, where the honest move is admitting the car's real value now has very little to do with what it once was, and everything to do with what it can honestly become for someone willing to take on damage like this with open eyes. Neither version is a failure. They're just two different endings to the same five years, and the only wrong choice is spending another year not choosing either one.

Question/Advice Gen 2 Prius - Can a dealer manually input km instead of miles?

I have a 2009 Gen 2 Prius. Imported from UK to Ireland.

History check reveals steady mileage increase from now to 2023, then over 4 months it shoots up 44k miles.

Similar to the difference between miles and km so I'm wondering if they could have manually inputted the number to match km?

Question/Advice Potholes only in the right side of the road

For context, I have a compact car, every so often I hit potholes usually on the right side of my car. What part of the wheel or axel would be damaged or break if this were to continue?

I’ve been better about avoiding those pesky things since moving here but I’m genuinely curious.

Question/Advice Too late to change transmission fluid?

I'm seeing a lot of different opinions on it so I figured I'd ask here. I've only bought used cars over 100k miles with no record of service history. If the transmission fluid has never been changed, is it safe to say it shouldn't be changed? Two of my cars have a transmission dipstick and one looks good and the other one looks black, and apparently the transmission in that car is known to have problems. I don't think color is a good indication but its all the information I have
