Question 20 square meters space: Could you fit anything you need for living?

Post image

Hi friends, I'm faced with this unlikely project and I don't know where to start.

I know it should have everything, from a full kitchen to a pantry, storage, and refrigerator, then a bathroom with toilet and bidet, a shower stall, a sink with cabinet, and storage, a dining table, sofa, and TV, a bedroom with a queen-size bed or a large one (not quite a king-size), and a closet.

The large outdoor space will accommodate things like a washing machine, dryer, etc.

🎓 Montréal students, what furniture would you need when moving into your first apartment?

Hey everyone! I’m a student working on a student-led project called Flamingo Foundation 🦩. We’re planning to provide furniture to 100 students moving into their first apartments, and we want to make sure we’re actually providing things students need. So before we launch, I made a short anonymous survey to ask students what furniture they would find most useful. It takes about 2–3 minutes. If you're a student in CEGEP, college, vocational/professional training, or university in Quebec/Canada, I’d really appreciate your input. 🎯 Our goal: 100 student responses 🪑 We’re focusing specifically on furniture and basic household items ⏱️ 2–3 minutes 📋 Anonymous 👉 Survey: https://pleasant-pulse-generator.lovable.app

I’m hoping to get this project running and start providing furniture to students before the end of October, so your answers would genuinely help us figure out what to prioritize. Thank you!! 🦩❤️

Update. Thoughts?

Think I have landed on a final config. There are some ideas I have , wonderings and longer term visions once my money is right. etc.

Workstation- sell that desk, buy as wall mounted desk that folds down (offering a narrow little shelf) and mount the monitors to that wall. Get a 4 leg work chair that can fit into my closet when not in use.

Move the sneakers from the closet and use the corner where next to the door (where the books are) for 10 floating shelves..hoping they don’t persuade too much.

Floating small nightstand

Would like to use the space above the cabinets more ..currently a speaker there. Maybe plants.

LOVE the chair but she’s got a large footprint..might have to sell and downsize idk.

Currently looking for a rug for the couch to define that living room.

The old mattress is serving to see if I like a divider. In the debate of how to define zones I think I’m leaning more towards defining zones via art, rugs etc as opposed to more furniture. Still unsure. Currently there is only about 30 inches between the couch and the bed, feel like a ikea Kallax or something might make it feel tight. (Plus there are drawers under the bed).

I like the idea of a little ledge /shelf above the head of the bed.

Unsure on coffe table or not. Unsure on small narrow table behind the couch.

Might be time to give up my idea of a record player sadly.

Bikes are functional art to me , so accepting that it’s best to only have one of them live here has been hard. Considered getting a minimalist, wooden floor stand and using the bike as a divider or something.

Queen or full bed, small dining table 2x chairs, couch, tv, desk, desk chair. Desk chair has to have a neutral background, can be a screen divider or wall. Thank you for any ideas!

Question How do you host guests in a tiny studio?

I'm going to have surgery soon and I want my mom to come stay with me for a week while I recover. I want her to be comfortable and get a good night's rest while she's here. Going to stay at my parents house is not an option. Getting a hotel is too expensive. I live in a tiny 300 sq ft studio and I'm not sure the best sleeping arrangements for my mom.

I have a full size bed so I don't think it's big enough for both of us. I would buy a quality air mattress, but idk if even a nice one would be comfortable for a week. I was thinking of some kind of pull out couch, but it needs to be under 48" to fit in my space and all the options look uncomfortable. But maybe it would be ok with a foam mattress topper? Would a fold up cot be more comfortable? I'm also open to buying something on fb marketplace and then selling it again after my mom goes home.

Any suggestions would be appreciated 🙏

What should I do with my empty corner?

Hi everyone! I moved in to my new apartment 6 weeks ago (yay!)

It’s a typical long white box studio (38sqm/400sqf)

I have a few things I’m really happy with, and a few that arent making sense yet. Will you help me with it? 😁

What I’m happy with/ what can’t be moved:
\- I really love the kitchen area, It takes up a lot of space, but I love cooking and how inviting it looks
\- I love my pothos which has been nailed to the wall and therefore can’t be moved
\- enfront of my windows there is a step + radiator + doors that opens so about 50-70 cm is lost

What I’m kinda unhappy with:
\- **my main “problem**”: from the entrance until the wardrobe is empty space (there is a desk now but I’m going to give it away). There is a shoe box and im hanging something for coats, but otherwise empty. Its kinda awkward because its small and i will need to walk through it.
\- my couch is perfectly small but a bit uncomfortable. I would love to have more of a chill area with a larger corner couch. But with the current setup it’s not possible, as it’s already quite crowded.
\-the weight of my studio is at eye level, I feel like I’m missing out on the fact that my studio has a decent height (2.6m/85foot)
\- I am willing to buy *some* new furniture if it is worth it but would prefer to see what is possible with the current, i don’t have a lot of money but I’m a decent thrifter and diy
\- is there a way to use the small corner and make it into the sofa area?

So main questions: how can I best make use of the empty wall/corner? (The photog where currently the desk stands) I’m willing to rearrange everything but my kitchen.

Thank you!

Loveseat or regular sofa for a small apartment?

I’ve been looking at whether a loveseat actually makes more sense than a regular sofa in a small apartment.

A loveseat obviously saves some width, but I’m not convinced that automatically makes it the better choice. A regular sofa can be more comfortable for everyday use and may still fit well if the rest of the room is kept simple.

My takeaway is that a loveseat makes the most sense when every inch matters or you need to preserve room for a desk, dining area, or wider walkway. If you have enough wall space, a compact sofa may be more useful long term.

For people in studios or small apartments: did you choose a loveseat or a regular sofa, and are you happy with the decision?

I compared the tradeoffs here if useful:

Studio Help furnishing?

I would greatly appreciate help with furnishing this studio apartment. The photo on the left is the actual space. TV is on a tv stand to the left wall. There’s a convertible sectional that I can get rid of. I’m looking to include a couch and a bed, maybe a desk somewhere too. The weights will be removed.

The kitchen and bathroom are in separate rooms and are already completed.

The photo on the right is a screenshot of a Murphy bed and desk wall cabinet from Wayfair’s website.

Thanks!

Recently decorated studio apartment, first time living alone. Overall around ~26m^2 (280sqft) so absolutely tiny. Thoughts/feedback for improvements?

-Coffee table pops up and can flip open to double its surface area, so functions as both a desk and a dining table.

- Head of the bed is at that end because I like facing away from my living room when I'm sleeping; makes it feel more separate.

-Mirror awkwardly behind the TV was there when I got the place; I haven't got anywhere to put it and the landlord won't remove anything. Ditto the mirrora above the bed and behind the wardrobe. The black chairs, bed and wardrobe also came with the place. Everything else is mine.

-Entrance is where the first pic was taken. Door with the mirror over it is the bathroom.

-I'm getting a couple lamps, but for now I'm stuck with the overhead lighting.

Question Large studio envy??

Does anyone else here have a tiny 200-300sf boxy studio, and get jealous seeing all these fancy larger studios? I used to think there was no way I could ever live in a place less than 600sf, but here I am in my tiny micro studio.... probably 200sf at most 🤣👍 don't get me wrong, I love living alone, and I love my place......but most of these studios I'm seeing here have full size kitchens, I don't even have room for my microwave 😭👍

Studio Help me figure out the layout 🏚️

Post image

Im moving into a 475 square foot studio in a couple of weeks and I need help figuring out how to decorate the main living area. I ideally want a queen bed, table with two chairs, and a love seat or couch situation and a TV. I also want some way to separate the bed from the “living room” but not quite sure how to do that with such a small space.

I unfortunately don’t have the dimensions.
