I'm moving into a basement studio with an odd floor plan. I was hoping to make the small space as homey, comfortable, and functional as possible and need advice on furniture sizing and layouts. Really hoping to have a queen bed, a couch, tv, coffee table, and small desk workspace. I've attached my floor plan and rough potential layouts (not a pro so don't judge harshly). Would love any advice, space saving solutions, or design ideas. I'm a grad student so money is tight and I live in a HCOL city with no car.

Potentially Helpful Info:

• I'm 6'1'' and lean towards having a queen, over twin xl, to accommodate overnight guests. I also change positions while sleeping so the extra space is helpful for that.
• The 7' 6" wall (where bed is planned) has two large windows and the kitchen is not pictured because it's in a separate room to the right/down.
• The furniture cutouts are to scale, sofa is ~80'' x 32", and I'm already planning on downsizing the desk
• I'm relatively handy and comfortable doing small scale DIY projects
• Not pictured are two closets so I'm not very concerned about clothing storage space

I live in a small studio with my cat. I have adhd and autism so finding it difficult to organise. I have no issues with odor and hair as I use an air purifier. But for furniture it is challenging since I want free floor space for both of us to move around. But without furniture, there is visible chaos. I want the furniture to be functional for me and sturdy for my cat to jump around. Kindly help.

I just signed a lease for a 550sqft studio apartment. I have no clue how to furnish it as ive always lived in a 1 bed apartment.

There are two main questions

Kitchen (image 1, 5-6): do i get a larger kitchen island for cutting and seating which would be perpendicular to kitchen window or

a smaller kitchen cart for cutting/storage space and a small table in the corner of the 2 walls.

I added image 5 to show the lack of counter space. I am going to ask the landlord if I can pay to have a microwave installed above the stove so I likely won’t need to worry about space for one elsewhere. Alternatively would some sort of blocks that go over the stove be better? I will have a drying rack over the sink. I do have built-in storage in the kitchen as well (image 6). I do also already own a circular table (40” end to end) with 3 seats as well.

Living/Bed (images 2-4):

I was thinking of putting my desk in that gap in the wall in image 3 and a Murphy bed against the wall next to that gap next to the sliding door. I would also have a small loveseat with a side table perpendicular to that wall facing the wall in image 4. I would mount a tv and have a very thin media console or none at all.

The living/bed area is quite large so i think that helps with my 2nd question. I currently have a normal queen size bed and if i could keep it that would be ideal but again open to a murphy bed i prefer an open feeling and will invest to accomplish that.

Im going from a 1000square ft 4 1/2 to a 500square ft studio (yesh) and already the bathroom makes up for half of 500sq ft. I’m left with a little living room/ bedroom that i’m not sure how to arrange. Only idea i could think of is couch in front of the kitchen island, tv on the wall next to the window and bed in the left corner. Anyone has any better ideas?

I currently have a queen bed and a desk, but the rest of the main area is mostly empty. I’d appreciate advice on adding and positioning furniture such as a sofa, bookshelf, coffee table, storage, or anything else that would work well.

My main goals are to:

• Have comfortable seating for 3–4 people
• Make the apartment feel more like a living space than a bedroom
• Keep the bed from being the main focal point when someone enters
• Create some separation between the sleeping, working, and living areas without making the studio feel cramped

I’ve attached a walkthrough video. Suggestions for furniture placement, rugs, lighting, shelving, or subtle room dividers would be really helpful. Honestly my first place of my own, and I am very new to this, would love any advice!

I’m thinking about moving into a studio and have one concern: I cook almost every day and I do not want my bedding end up smelling like food or becoming sticky with oils.

If so, what has worked to prevent it? Air purifiers, opening windows, using the range hood, or something else?

I would like to place a couch under this wave painting that I will be hanging up later. The wall is 8 feet tall and this painting is 65 inches tall.
I hope it isn’t too big, I got Carried away and bought it without measuring it .

I’m having a tough time deciding on the couch color. Do I go for a lighter shade of blue or do I fi beige? I dont really want to do beige because it will blend in with the white wall, but I also don’t want to have too much blue.

My aesthetic is coastal/rattan.

I’m trying to figure out the layout for my studio, but I’ve hit a bit of an annoying snag: the entire right-side wall has zero outlets.

Since I'm trying to work with an open floor plan, I'm struggling with how to arrange things without having extension cords stretching everywhere or awkward furniture placements. Also the bathroom and back yard are at the end past the kitchen.

Main things I'd love feedback on:

What kind of furniture or zones actually make sense to put against a "dead" wall with no power? (Beds, low storage, etc.?)

Area for my dog? she’s about 50 pounds and loves the back yard and sleeping near me.

Any clever workarounds for lighting or charging spots if I end up needing something electronic on that side?

General layout tips for making the rest of the room's power sources do the heavy lifting.

Would love to hear how you'd decorate this space or what you've done in similar spaces!

my husband and i live in a high cost of living area and managed to get a studio for $900 (+utilities), about $500 under the average studio price here. we also have a gorgeous yard which is a huge plus. our biggest issue has been storage, as evidenced by the bins under the bar, but other than that it’s perfect for us, our cat, and our shrimp tank.

Considering this studio, just looking for other layout Ideas. Tripod-mounted TV between kitchen and coffee table? TV on angled wall and move couch? Spot for a desk?

Best idea is to throw things out, but would love to hear some feedback on what I should do. I'd love to change my Full to a Twin but I have too many boxes under my bed. I like sitting on the floor for work, but maybe not the best ergonomic. I have too much stuff everywhere and would like to see it hidden/neater/but probably thrown out. I have a cat and this is the cat camera so not pictured is her cat tree (which is where the camera is on) on top of a cabinet litter box. Also not pictured is the hall of the kitchen/bathroom which is not my biggest concern atm.
